Nation's top Democrat defends banning God
Dear Mountain,

The nation’s number one Democrat, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, is defending the banning of religious references on certificates issued by the Architect of the Capitol.

An Eagle Scout asked that a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol be sent to his grandfather, along with a certificate bearing the message: “In honor of my grandfather Marcel Larochelle, and his dedication and love of God, country, and family.”

Stephen Ayers, the Architect of the Capitol, banned the use of the word “God” in the certificate issued for the Eagle Scout. Ayers, serving in a low-level, non-elected position, claims he has the authority to ban the word “God” from the certificate. This is the first time ever for the Architect of the Capitol to ban religious references. Ayers said he banned the word “God” because someone might be offended.

Pelosi defended Ayers’ decision to ban all religious references. Several legislators signed a letter to Pelosi asking that Ayers’ censorship be stopped. “The Architect’s policy is in direct conflict with his charge, as well as the scope of his office and brings into question his ability to preserve a building containing many national religious symbols,” the legislators said in the letter.

Instead of stopping the censorship, Pelosi defended it. “It’s not about being anti-religion,” Pelosi said. “It is just about what the Architect thought was appropriate for him to proclaim in a certificate.” By saying such, Pelosi approved the banning of religious references by Ayers.

That is just sickening, and her reasoning that it might offend somebody doesn't hold water because the person requested that it be written on the certificate.

I emailed my opposition.

Since reading this story I have wondered what in the heck an 'architect' has to do with what goes on certificates issued with flags?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? He should be downstairs in the basement playing with his erector set or something useful. Wonder if President Bush could fire him OR better yet, ship his sorry but over to Iraq to build and test IED disposal buildings, but keep him away from the troops. :hammerhead: :hammerhead: :hammerhead:

Edit- Just sent in my email but I couldn't help myself, I had to add comments. Also could not bring myself to check the 'I will pray for peloser' box. I'd hate to be seen a hypocrite in front of my God.

GWEH,

Thank you very much for posting this.

I had heard about it on Fox, of course I signed the petition and checked the prayer box, I appreciate the opportunity to sign it.

I did hear that the arcitect will no longer censor the mention of God.

From what I've heard he may be a Bush appointte?e, but he was approved by the senate and works somewhat independently of others.

I've also heard that he was within a law that was reapproved I think in 2003, something along those lines and if that is true that law must be done away with or reworked very seriously.

I applaud and thank the young Boy Scout that stood up for what is right.
smiley-patriotic-flag-wave  smiley-patriotic-flag-wave

God bless The Boy Scouts of America and a special blessing for the one lone Scout that stood tall and proud.

IF, if, it is true that the architect was within some law, then he may have actually done us a favor in a way by exposing it by censoring the wrooong one, so we can put organized pressure on the president and the two houses of congress to change that law.

Even though the architect has said he will no longer censor, I still encourage everyone to sign the petition to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, she needs to know she doesn't rule over this country completely as she wants, we don't want a king or a queen over us period.

Thanks again GWEH and all that have and will sign the petition set before us,

Duke

You know, being a woman, I ought to be really proud that a woman is now Speaker of the House. That a woman is running for the Presidency ....but I'm not. The crap that comes from their mouth's just makes me kind of queasy and gives me an uneasy feeling. It's really quite a shame.

Ali,

I also look for a woman who could fill these positions. Like my wife sez, "Men had had their chance for 200 years, its time to try a woman". I can agree with that because all the candidates nowadays look, talk, walk, steal alike. I want to see a different perspective on fixing things and moving forward. Unfortunately, we still have congress to deal with and their greed and ego.

Then I see the women we have to choose from and I can only wonder ...

Perhaps I should say I see the MEN and women we have to choose from and I can only wonder ...

Thank you for your reply to my post, Dawg. It's high time that we see a different kind of 'walk' and a different kind of 'talk' ....whether it comes from a man or a woman! I don't like being left 'wondering', too.

At one time I thought Condi would have fit the bill....she was a great talker!

You are right - we have a congress that is not doing a dang thing and has a lower rating than the president. Probably the worst in history.

We need people that were like our for-fathers that stand up for what is right, and are not afraid to speak about it.

After watching Jimma on Bill O. tonight, and how he continues to talk like a peanut head, and then think back on the Reagan years - Ronny really was a good president. He was the last good president that we had.

I seen on the news tonight that this "Architect"'s censorship has been overturned by the Boy Scout and his legislator.

`God' back on flag documents

Quote:

WASHINGTON - A 17-year-old Eagle Scout wanting to honor his grandfather's "love of God, country and family" with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol has helped remove a ban on the word "God" in certificates that accompany these flags.

The acting Architect of the Capitol, Stephen Ayers, said Thursday he was revising guidelines on Capitol flag certificates because it was "beyond the scope of this agency's responsibilities to censor messages from members of Congress."

Last week Rep. Michael Turner, R-Ohio, protested upon learning that the Architect's office had removed the word "God" from the certificate of authenticity accompanying a flag 17-year-old Andrew Larochelle of Dayton wanted to give his grandfather.

The boy had asked that the certificate read: "This flag was flown in honor of Marcel Larochelle, my grandfather, for his dedication and love of God, country and family."

But the Architect excised "God" from the inscription, saying it violated a policy, set in 2003, banning religious and political expressions on the certificates.

Lawmakers, led by Republicans, have since demanded that policy be changed.

Good for this Scout!  HE IS A PATRIOT!!!!  smiley-patriotic-flag-wave

The practice, House Republican leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, wrote in a letter Wednesday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., "has rightly drawn outrage from the American people, who have grown weary of endless attempts by politicians and bureaucrats to bar the word God and even the most tacit references to faith from our public institutions."

The flag dispute led off questioning at Pelosi's weekly news conference Thursday. "I don't think the Architect's office should be in the role of censoring what members want to say," she said.

Bad on Pelosi  SHE IS A PINHEAD!!!  :hammerhead:

and bad on MSM for not pointing out that SHE supported the censorship of "God".....and she's supposed to be a "devout" Catholic.........spit

CW,

Thanks for that post.

Has anyone heard what that law says from 2003 that let the architect think he was within the law in censoring God out?

I mentioned it in my "Posted on Oct 11 2007, 11:42 AM", but didn't know how to find that law to read it.

I also called the Eagle Scout a young Boy Scout and although he is still young to me, his position as an Eagle Scout is well worth me getting right, so I correct myself in this matter.

God bless him and all the Scouts of America,

Duke

Ya'll also remember the leftists attacking the Boy Scouts of America trying to force them to allow openly practicing homosexuals to lead them!( Different topic, but yet anoter example of how hateful the leftists are to anything right about this country).

Yeah Ali, that's the difference between us and them. We actually vote the issues not gender or ethnicity.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a women in the White house, and when the right one runs, and she's the best candidate, I'll vote for her.

It takes about 100 million dollars to run for President these days, and I have to wonder why. Votes are paid for, not won? Money 'talks' and common sense is blown three sheets to the wind? 'Nothing' sounds better than SOMETHING to us?
If I had one question for all the hundred million dollar runners for Presidential Election, I would ask 'what do you think of America, and how do you bring her back'?

I've been doing some reading and from what I gather the Architect of the Capitol sends out about 100,000 flags at a price per year and the numbers of requests are growing, he doesn't work necessarily under laws, but is under the laws of the country, he works under rules as I gather it, and censorship of religious words are not actually written dow!n. Sounds a bit strange.

"The members" is a term meaning the members of I think of both houses of congress, the congressmen's district members make the requests for flags to their congressmen and they include what they want written on the certificate that comes with the flag, the congressman's office sees to getting it to the Architect's office.

The Architects office over stepped it's position in censoring God out of the requested certicate's wording.

The U.S. Representative from Ohio should have and did speak up, this case of the Eagle Scout and his dad's request was in his district.

He and others that joined him spoke up as they should, but I want to make sure the rules or so called law that the Architect of the Capitol works in or under are set so this trash doesn't happen again.
smiley-patriotic-flag-wave

If anyone sees that I got anything wrong please let me know?

Thanks for your participation on this matter to each of you and to GWEH for posting it and giving me to the opprtunity to sign the petiton, there are more petitions by other groups if ya'll want to sign them,

Duke

Do you thank this matter is over or should we be sure it is seen to by law that this doesn't happen again?

I agree. Recently I re-read his famous speech. You know the one I'm sure. The one he gave in '64 on behalf of Barry Goldwater. "A Time for Choosing". Man, wasn't that a speech! Speech

Yes, we do. But sometimes, I wonder if we'd even recognize it if we heard it.
