General Petraeus; What do people want?

Pete and I watched the General's interview with Britt Hume last night, and to be quite honest, I didn't understand most of it and it was boring to me. All those charts with the ups and downs ....progress "here", but not "there". "There is still work to be done".
General Petraeus was confirmed by a Senate vote of 81-0 on January 26, 2007. He is "widely regarded as one of the brightest soldiers of his generation".
I have to wonder where people like "Move on.org" were, when this decision was made. Does the truth hurt so much - is it to much to handle - some folks just really don't believe this man (General Petraeus) who knows what he's talking about.
The closest I've ever been to Iraq is through Gary's Chronicles and the letters I've received from soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq fighting the war on terror.
I'll admit that I'm not the 'sharpest tool in the shed', but to disagree with a man - any man or woman who has been there ....would be foolish, to say the least.
My heart remembers the disbelief I felt on 9-11-01. My heart belongs to the men and women who fight for a better world.

A better question is what do you expect from the Lefty Loons at Move On. org. They just respond with same ol insane rhetoric they always do. The General said exactly what he thinks and he is the expert. For cowardly dipsticks like the Senators and Congressmen that have been against the war from the start, to try and second guess this man is appalling and shows how this country lost in Vietnam. Politicians have absolutely no business in micromanaging a war.

Ali, I tried, but I couldn't follow it either. I would gladly take what Patreaus has to say over anybody else, and Gobblerblaster you're right, politicians need to stay out of it.

Sorry if this is a repeat for some of you ;-)

I watched part of this report yesterday, and General Petraeus deserves nothing but respect for his honesty and courage.

At least one of our moonbat Democratic congressman swore that he was lying - and the General kindly pointed out his sources and stood by his them. The Democrat WAS LYING - he tried to imply words that the General had said - and the General CORRECTED HIM......

We are gaining ground in Iraq - and now is NOT THE TIME TO QUIT.

Don't believe it?????????

Remember Fallujuah - the "Wild, Wild West" of Iraq - the Most Dangerous City in the World

READ THIS STORY -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Iraqi Army Withdraws From Fallujah

Quote:

FALLUJAH -- The last battalion of Iraqi soldiers with 2nd Brigade, 1st Iraqi Army Division, withdrew from the Anbar Province city of Fallujah, Sept. 1, leaving the city’s security and stability in the hands of the local police and government.

Brig. Gen. Ali al-Hashemi, the brigade’s commander, said the time had come when Iraqi Police alone could handle law enforcement in the city.

“I am very confident in the IPs keeping the city safe. Besides, it is their job to work to keep the city safe,” al-Hashemi said through an interpreter. “It’s not the IA’s job. The army should not be inside the city. The police should be in the city.”

Lt. Col. Daniel T. Thoele, the operations advisor for 2nd Brigade Military Transition Team with Regimental Combat Team 6, spoke well of the departing unit.

“The 2nd Brigade has been phenomenal,” said Thoele. “I think today is a historical event because of not only the success of the IA, but the IA working closely with the Iraqi police.”

Initially the IA provided security over the city to give the fledgling police force time and breathing space to develop. Now with a strong force, the locals trust the IPs and are cooperating with counterinsurgent activities.

“(Since) Col. Faisal got here in November, there has been expediential growth with the IPs, both in their numbers and also in their development,” Thoele said. “The IPs are still having equipment and manning problems, but they are working through it.”

Under al-Hashemi’s guidance, his soldiers routinely respond with, “I am Iraqi,” whenever asked by civilians whether they are Shiite or Sunni, Thoele said.

“I am very confident and very happy about everything they did in the city of Fallujah, because I see the result and the city is a lot safer and a lot of progress was made here,” al-Hashemi said about his soldiers’ efforts. “We were very successful because all the forces were working together. The IA, IPs and the Marines all worked together as one team. There were three commanders, IA commander, IP commander and a Marine commander. We had a very good understanding of working with each.”

The brigade has relocated to northern regions of Anbar to replace Marine units, take over combat outposts and operate patrol bases. They will now refocus outside of the city to protect the highways and countryside to prevent insurgents access to population centers like Fallujah.

The 2nd Brigade Headquarters will remain here at the Iraqi Training Center for logistical and the training purposes.

“I think it’s important to understand the IA and IPs have a great relationship and it doesn’t matter whether they’re Shiite, Sunni or anything,” Thoele said. “I don’t see the sectarian strike here that you hear about in Baghdad, because here it doesn’t matter. It’s all Iraqis working together.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember the Iraqi province of Al Anbar? Where many of our young men and women lost their lives trying to bring peace and stability. Patraeus stated in his report, that the security of Al Anbar is set to be given to the Iraqi's at the beginning of next year. READ THAT AGAIN! What was once the most dangerous province in the world is now set to be given to Iraqi's for security! This is what are men and women fought and died for - FREEDOM! We are proving to the Iraqi's daily that Iraq is their country and that we wish nothing more than for them to take control of it, so that our Troops can come home.......

And even after proving this, our liberal left continues to TRASH OUR TROOPS.........including their Commander.......gggggggrrrrrrrr

Unite For Victory!

September 10, 2007

Dear Friends,

As we speak, General David Petraeus is addressing the U.S. Congress with a long anticipated report about the progress of our mission in Iraq.

The news is encouraging: the surge is working, the Iraqis are beginning to take back their country and our troops are defeating al Qaeda!

Unfortunately, the defeatist groups - MoveOn.org and their cohorts - have decided that any good news regarding Iraq is bad news for them politically.

MoveOn.org is viciously attacked the character and integrity of General Petraeus with a paid advertisement in the NY Times calling him, "General Betray Us!"

Let's be clear: the anti-war crowd is calling our top commander in Iraq a traitor!

Who do you trust to fight the war in Iraq: General Petraeus or MoveOn.org?

I think the answer is clear but we need YOU to act today!

Please, call 1-877-222-8001 today. An operator will connect you to your Member of Congress. Please tell them what the anti-war crowd is saying about our brave American commander and our soldiers! Tell them that victory is America's only option in Iraq.

To read more about veterans response, visit http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Publ...14/091rhesh.asp

Our message is silent without your voice.

Call today!

GREAT POINT, ALI!

They unanimously approved him, and now they are questioning his intelligence????

You know Culture Warrior, I don't know as 'some' people CAN be "satisfied" ....they don't even know WHAT they want to be satisfied with.
I used to think that there were people who were just 'book smart, and common sense stupid' ....now I'm just thinking that 'stupid' fits the bill.

You know it is impossible to figure these Dimwits out. First they want to pull-out and institute troop reductions until they find out that , that is what is being planned by the expert in the field and then they decide that this is wrong too. I think they are just against everything unless they get credit for it being their idea. I hope they keep it up though, they will reap a whirlwind in the next election. Do you think this could explain the lowest level of confidence ever in the Congress (in which the Democrats have the majority) by the American public, according to resent polls. I think Harry Reid is in dire need of a mental evaluation. This just proves if you give and idiot enough rope, he will hang himself.

The State Department was loaded with liberals. You always knew when you were working for or with one. The first clue was when anyone presented an idea. If it wasn't presented as having been the libs idea or if the lib couldn't figure out how to make it his/hers, it was a bad idea all the way! During the Clinton administration, they were a nightmare!

This story compliments the above posted one, and is about another Al Qaeda stronghold in Iraq - Ramadi. Those of you that know enough about this war - knew that Ramadi was as bad as, or worse than Fallujah.....

Anbar Awakening - Michael J. Totten - Sept 10., 2007

Here is just a snippet from it:

Quote:

“AQI announced the Islamic State of Iraq in a parade downtown on October 15, 2006,” said Captain McGee. “This was their response to Sahawa al Anbar. They were threatened by the tribal movement so they accelerated their attacks against tribal leaders. They ramped up the murder and intimidation. It was basically a hostile fascist takeover of the city."

Sheikh Jassim’s experience was typical.

“Jassim was p'd off because American artillery fire was landing in his area,” Colonel Holmes said. “But he wasn’t p'd off at us. He was pissed off at Al Qaeda because he knew they always shot first and we were just shooting back.”

“He said he would prevent Al Qaeda from firing mortars from his area if we would help him,” Lieutenant Hightower said. “Al Qaeda said they would mess him up if he got in their way. He called their bluff and they seriously f'd him up. They launched a massive attack on his area. All hell broke loose. They set houses on fire. They dragged people through the streets behind pickup trucks. A kid from his area went into town and Al Qaeda kidnapped him, tortured him, and delivered his head to the outpost in a box. The dead kid was only sixteen years old. The Iraqis then sent out even nine year old kids to act as neighborhood watchmen. They painted their faces and everything.”

“Sheikh Jassim came to us after that,” Colonel Holmes told me, “and said I need your help.”

“One night,” Lieutenant Markham said, “after several young people were beheaded by Al Qaeda, the mosques in the city went crazy. The imams screamed jihad from the loudspeakers. We went to the roof of the outpost and braced for a major assault. Our interpreter joined us. Hold on, he said. They aren’t screaming jihad against us. They are screaming jihad against the insurgents."

*

“A massive anti-Al Qaeda convulsion ripped through the city,” said Captain McGee. “The locals rose up and began killing the terrorists on their own. They reached the tipping point where they just could not take any more. They told us where the weapon caches were. They pointed out IEDs under the road.”

“In mid-March,” Lieutenant Hightower said, “a sniper operating out of a house was shooting Americans and Iraqis. Civilians broke into his house, beat the hell out of him, and turned him over to us.”

“There were IEDs all over this area,” Lieutenant Welch said. “On every single street corner, buried under the road. They were so big they could take out tanks. When we came through we cleared the whole area on foot. The civilians told us where the IEDs were. I was with one group where a guy opened his gate just a crack and pointed out where one was. It was right in front of his house. Later we went back and had tea. He was so happy to see us.”

“One day,” Lieutenant Hightower said, “some Al Qaeda guys on a bike showed up and asked where they could plant an IED against Americans. They asked a random civilian because they just assumed the city was still friendly to them. They had no idea what was happening. The random civilian held him at gunpoint and called us to come get him.”

“People here tacitly supported Al Qaeda,” Captain McGee said, “because Al Qaeda was attacking us. But they took control of the city. They forced girls to stay home from school. They dragged people outside the city and shot them in the head. They broke people’s fingers if they were seen smoking a cigarette. They forced men to grow beards. Once they started acting like that they could only establish a safe haven by using terrorism against the local civilians.”

“Al Qaeda struck out three times,” said Major Peters. “Strike One: They killed a Sheikh and held his body for four days. Strike Two: They executed young people in public. Strike Three: They attacked the compound of another sheikh. The people here said enough. They aligned with us because they realized Al Qaeda was the real enemy. They didn’t like Al Qaeda’s version of Islam at all.”

Credit for purging Ramadi of Al Qaeda must go to Iraqis themselves at least as much as to the American military. The Americans wouldn’t have been able to do it without the cooperation of the people who live there, and the Iraqis wouldn’t have been able to do it, at least not so easily, without help from the American military.

This drawing by an Iraqi child depicts the American-Iraqi alliance against Al Qaeda. Notice the sword is Iraqi and the muscle is American.

sorry ----had to clean up some of the "MARINE" language --- hope I got it all

For BSB and others interested in informational graphs, look in the story for "Attacks on Topeka Area of Operations" ----- and liberals insist that attacks on US troops and Iraqi civilians have INCREASED - THEY ARE FULL OF __it..........(although not a Marine, I share some of their sentiment ---- and language - please excuse me..... smiley-outta-here ) :rotfl:

This says it in a nutshell:

Quote:

Army Lieutenant Markham from Shreveport, Louisiana, met me first thing in the morning at Camp Corregidor and drove me over there.

“What’s the plan today?” I said.

“There’s this thing – I don’t know if you’ve heard of it – called the GWOT,” he said jokingly. “The Global War on Terrorism. We have to win it.”

“And what about me?” I said.

“I’ll be taking you over to the JSS and leaving you with Lieutenant Hightower,” he said. “Think of it as me dropping you off at school.”

“Ok, Dad,” I said. “Which truck am I riding in?”

The words are slightly different, but the thought is the same.

We are in a Global War on Terror.

The enemy wants to do nothing but impose their violent ideals on the world and force everyone into a belief that mirrors that of Nazism.

Either you "get on the bus" and help fight this enemy.........or STAY OUT OF THE WAY!

We have folks stepping up to the plate like GWEH and Sunshine to do WHAT they can the BEST they can smiley-patriotic-flag-wave .......and others that are determined to keep that bus from rolling on.

For the liberals that want to keep this bus from rolling on......the same bus that is fighting for their rights to protest and speak freely..........

GET THE "H" OUT OF THE WAY :tank: :troops: :flag-raise:

I seen this on the news last night....very sad news....

Sunni Sheik Leader, U.S. Ally Against Al Qaeda, Assassinated

.
Quote:

BAGHDAD —  The most prominent figure in a U.S.-backed revolt of Sunni sheiks against Al Qaeda in Iraq was killed Thursday by a bomb planted near his home in Anbar province, 10 days after he met with President George W. Bush, Iraqi and U.S. officials said.

Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha and two of his bodyguards were killed by a roadside bomb planted near the tribal leader's home in Ramadi, Anbar's provincial capital, said Col. Tareq Youssef, supervisor of Anbar police.

Abu Risha was leader of the Anbar Salvation Council, also known as the Anbar Awakening — an alliance of clans backing the Iraqi government and U.S. forces. His death deals a sharp blow to American efforts to recruit tribal leaders to fight terror.

It is rather untimely that this Sunni leader was killed shortly after GWB's visit with him, and about the time this article was written.

If everything in this article is true about the Sunni's resolve to remove Al Qaeda from Ramadi - we can only hope and pray that they will rise up and stand beside our men and women from the US Military and ERADICATE AQI!

and so far it looks as though it may be so - Iraq Sunni tribes vow to avenge Qaeda foe's murder (AFP)

This is history unfolding - it is ugly - but history was never known to be pretty....

Al Qaeda has brought nothing but death and destruction to the people of Iraq and the people of this world ----- it is time for EVERYONE to realize this and start to stand up in unity against them! :troops:
