Saw this coming. Nifong should have seen it coming too. May be why he FINALLY apologized to the students whose lives he ruined. Too little, too late IMHO. Things may have gone a bit differently if he had been man enough to admit he was wrong and apologize when he realized he had jumped the gun. I think the reason he said yesterday he was resigning as DA was a stunt to try to ward off getting disbarred! Glad to see the panel did not buy it!

That's what the father of one of the accused students said, too - exact words. I saw it on FOX. This was before the disbarment, though. I am really glad he was disbarred. It may keep other DA's in check, too much power corrupts.....

GOOD! Now he should have to pay for what he put those young men and their parents through for all that time!

When is punishment going to be defined as being charged and having to pay for a defense - regardless of innocence. If you are charged, you are being punished already, regardless of what the judge or jury finds. How does having to pay out thousands of dollars like those kids and their families did in their defense play with innocent until proved guilty. If anyone is charged and found innocent, the charging authority should have to go back and pay them every cent they have had to spend as well as paying them for their time, pain and suffering. I said that knowing that if that were the law, no one who was charged would ever be found not guilty!

I am not one to agree with civil suits over everything. That said, Nifong was unethical in his prosecution of these college students costing them hundreds of thousands of dollars, college classes, college soccer team, and a year of their lives that should have been an enjoyable one. If Nifong cannot be charged and sent to prison for his unethical behavior to pay for his crime that way, civil court is the only answer. Even prosecutors should be responsible for the way they do their job, and if how they do their job hurts someone else's life, they should have to pay.

The ethical committee found it was intent that was unethical. I did not see the entire ruling, but I know they were focusing on Nifong's intent. I can only assume, he intended to prosecute these boys for personal gain even though he was unsure of their guilt. He went above and beyond to bias the public against these boys. That is unacceptable of someone in power - if jail is not an option, civil suits are.

Finally, this morning, I heard a fella bring up the future on rape cases. How many years did it take women to turn a rapist in - to be brave enough, then be mortified on the stand in hopes he would get jail time? Thank you Mr. Nifong! Thank you, you lieing POS, stripper ....you just set the world back another twenty years because of your lies. I hope they both get more than a slap on the wrist.
Every action has a reaction - and this is one that will take a long time to fix.

Good point Ali. I often forget that point, I am glad you brought it up...
