“Every child in America should be acquainted with his own country.
He should read books that furnish him with ideas that will be useful
to him in life and practice. As soon as he opens his lips, he should re-
hearse the history of his own country.”
~Noah Webster

“Four hundred years ago... the first English settlers arrived in the New World.
They were not Pilgrims. The Mayflower would not set sail for another 13
years. They were settlers organized by a group of investors incorporated as
the "Virginia Company." And yes, they were out to make a profit. ‘We landed
all our men, which were set to work about the fortification, and others some
to watch and ward as it was convenient,’ George Percy wrote. The first year
was rough, full of attacks by Algonquin Indians, mismanagement and, as Per-
cy noted, colonists who refused to pull their own weight. After the first year,
Capt. John Smith was elected to lead the colony, and historians generally at-
tribute its early survival to his discipline, including his rule:
‘He who does not work,will not eat.’

Smith returned to England in 1609, the same year John Rolfe set sail for the
New World, arriving in Jamestown in 1610. He began experimenting with tobacco seeds that he brought from the Caribbean. By 1630, Virginia was exporting 1.5 million pounds of tobacco to England. Jamestown became a profitable
colony shortly after Rolfe started growing tobacco, and England’s foothold in
the New World was secure.
"And just for the record my ancestors arrived here in 1639, and we too have been working every day since......YFFL, Paul"

To the PC crowd, Jamestown is all disease, genocide, slavery and ecological
devastation. To wiser heads, it represents the American values of hard work,
self-sufficiency, entrepreneurship and community. It made us who we are to-
day. As Rolfe’s tiny tobacco seeds grew into a huge international industry, lit-
tle Jamestown blossomed into the mighty United States of America. To those
brave colonists, we owe a great deal of thanks.”
~New Hampshire Union Leader

“When America is willing to lead the way, when we meet
our commitments and stand with our allies even in troubling times, when
we prepare for threats that are on the horizon and beyond the horizon, and

~Secretary of Defense Robert Gates

“Hillary Clinton is twisting herself into a pretzel on Iraq.
Her latest effort to find some way to appease the Democratic Party’s anti-

“The goals [of No Child Left Behind] are great, but it is not the federal govern-

“Top Signs You’re Watching a Bad Presidential Debate”

Candidates allowed three minutes to answer,
two minutes for rebuttal and one minute to make balloon animals;

Takes its questions exclusively from Trivial Pursuit:
Disney Edition;

Rebuttals consist of nothing but “Yo mama” jokes;

They need to ask 5th graders to help them with the questions;

Candidates are each allowed to “phone a friend”;

Debate drags on so long Giuliani is divorced and re-married twice;

Moderator Ryan Seacrest keeps flashing the text number to vote;

Hillary Clinton cannot answer health care questions
but wins $500,000 by picking the correct briefcase.

As of July 1, Allstate Insurance Company will stop selling new policies
to homeowners in California because we have too many disasters. They shouldn’t
have the right to call themselves “Allstate.” Maybe they should change their name
to “Some-states.”

... The price of gasoline passed four dollars a gallon in California.
Gas is so expensive now a lot of people are only planning summer trips
within walking distance from their homes.

... Mitt Romney, speaking about his Mormon religion, said that he can’t imagine
anything worse than polygamy. He said he can’t imagine anything worse than
having more than one wife.
Then Bill Clinton gave a rebuttal.

... Barack Obama’s wife Michelle has been out there campaigning for her husband
and she praised her husband for having a “moral compass.” In fact, Hillary Clinton
called her and asked, “Where can I get one of these moral compasses for Bill?”

... According to the latest poll, President Bush’s approval rating has reached a
new low of 28 percent. His ratings are so low, today he was named an honorary
member of the NBC Primetime Family.

... The President said today he would go along with Congress’ request to establish
benchmarks regarding Iraq. For example, the Iraqi government would have to
show results by certain dates before they are given any more money. Forget
Iraq. Why don’t we try that here?

Benjamin Franklin, who upon signing the Declaration of Independence said,
"Gentlemen, we must all hang together or we shall assuredly all hang separately."

"Go on boy, beat that dead horse. Make it fart."

The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it is unfamiliar territory. -Paul Fix

You make a living by what you get and a life by what you give.
Winston Churchill

"Unless you continually work, evolve and innovate, you will get a quick and painful lesson from someone who has!

“Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone witch can establish the principles upon witch freedom can securely stand”
John Adams
2nd president of the United States of America

It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare. Mark Twain

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving
safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in
sideways, chocolate in one hand, margarita in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

The key to success in all human relationships is as simple as mastering the art of giving happiness. Instead of expecting happiness, give it. Yes, to do that you have to put someone else first. But when you master the art of giving happiness, you will discover that you can’t give it without getting it back!

How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on.

"The will to win compares little with the will to prepare to win."

AHO!
Great Spirit-Creator bless and guide us:
extend the circle embracing all that is.
May our thirst for spiritual awareness never cease.
May forgiveness allow hate to never overwhelm us.
May we remain upon the path of a good heart
for such is the way of the trail of our ancestors.

“Adversity does not build charter…. It reveals it!”

A woman has the last word in any argument.
Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and
for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks,
The fault lies only in yourself.

Thoughts are like arrows: once released, they strike their mark. Guard them well or one day you may be your own victim.

“ A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the quality of his actions and the integrity of his intent. In the end leaders are much like eagles… they don’t flock, you find them one at a time”

When a man prays one day and steals six, the Great Spirit thunders and the Evil One laughs

"There are people so poor that the only thing they have is money."

The land gives us meat, but it also replenishes our spirits, weary from deadlines, ringing phones and heavy traffic. Hunting reconnects us to the earth. The big wilderness is whole and healthy and helps us find balance. From wolves and elk to hawks and grouse, life and death make sense here!
