Just to let everyone know that this is a special day for the wives and husbands of military personnel. They have to endure long deployments, moving from one duty station to another, raising a family, etc. They deserve our support and thanks. |

Just sent out to our families May is National Military Appreciation Month (click on link for more info) WASHINGTON, May 1, 2007 – In an effort to draw attention to the personal sacrifices of the men and women of the armed forces and their families, Congress has designated May as National Military Appreciation Month. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And please don't forget your spouse this coming Mother's Day weekend :-) Family Programs Update Volume 6, Number 29 (click on link for more info) Military Spouse Appreciation Day is May 11, 2007 In 1984 President Reagan proclaimed the Friday before Mother's Day of each year to be Military Spouse Appreciation Day in recognition of the "countless personal sacrifices" military spouses have made in support of the Armed Forces from the earliest days of the Continental Army. In his speech, President Reagan acknowledged the many challenges experienced by military spouses and also the many positive contributions they have made in their communities. "As volunteers," President Reagan noted, "military spouses have provided exemplary service and leadership in educational, community, recreational, religious, social and cultural endeavors." Today, as deployments continue in support of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, military spouses still play a vital role in the readiness and well-being of Servicemembers and their families even as they care for their own families and homes and pursue their career and educational goals. AUSA Family Programs would like to extend our appreciation of military spouses in recognition of their many accomplishments and their efforts on behalf of Soldiers, families and their communities. Please turn to the resources section of this newsletter for a list of programs and services for military spouses, including information on employment and education initiatives.
