Posted by Robert at 11:36 AM | Comments (53) Email this entry | Print this entry | Digg this | del.icio.us FBI Arrests 6 In Alleged Terror Plot Against N.J. Soldiers From WNBC, NewsChannel 4, New York: Six men from New Jersey have been arrested in an alleged terror plot against soldiers at Fort Dix, according to law enforcement sources. Investigators said the men planned to use automatic rifles to enter Fort Dix and kill as many soldiers as they could at the New Jersey military base. Fort Dix was just one of several military and security locations allegedly scouted by this group, authorities said. Investigators told NewsChannel 4's Jonathan Dienst that these arrests are the result of a tip to the FBI and use of an informant to track the suspects. Authorities were alerted in January 2006 after the terror suspects traveled to the Poconos for a training exercise where they practiced firing weapons, investigators said. Sources have told NewsChannel 4's Brian Thompson that the suspects tried to have a training videotape converted to DVD at a store in Cherry Hill, N.J., but the store owner alerted authorities. Authorities then inserted a cooperating witness into the alleged terror cell to be a go-between in their attempt to purchase M16 and AK-47 rifles. Arrests were made Monday night after the informant delivered dummy weapons paid for by the alleged terror cell suspects, authorities said. Investigators said the group discussed targeting numerous locations like Dover Air base, Fort Monmouth, a Coast Guard building in Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Federal building before deciding on Fort Dix as their intended target. Fort Dix is run in part by the Army and is a reserve-training center, but active units take part in training, including some which focuses on counter-terrorism. Sources told NewsChannel 4's Brian Thompson that the family of one of the suspects owns a pizzeria near Fort Dix and claimed to know the base "like the back of his hand." The same suspect told the alleged terror group it would be easy to penetrate to "get the most soldiers killed," sources said. Investigators said the group of suspects have been discussing and planning for much of the last year. They allegedly pooled their savings to pay for the operation targeted at soldiers stationed here at home, according to investigators. The six suspects arrested Monday night will face terror conspiracy charges. Three of the men are brothers, all believed to be Islamic radicals. The U.S. Attorney's office has told NewsChannel 4 that one of the suspects was born in Jordan, one in Turkey and four in the former Yugoslavia. Investigators said most of the suspects have spent several years here in the United States. Some of the group's alleged planning was caught on videotape, investigators said. On the videotape there is significant discussion of martyrdom. "Who is going to take care of my wife and kids?" one suspect asks on the tape, according to investigators. Another responds, "Allah will take care of your wife and kids." The alleged terror cell is described by investigators as disciples of Osama Bin Laden. Among the evidence seized was the downloaded will and testament of two Sept. 11 hijackers. Spokesmen for U.S. Attorney Chris Christie and the FBI in New Jersey and Philadelphia could not be reached for a comment. The suspects will be arraigned this afternoon in front of a federal magistrate at 1 p.m. It was good of WNBC to mention the Islamic nature of the plot. One expects other news sources may overlook that fact. |

I have some good ideas on what to do with that group, but if I posted it here, I might get kicked off the forum for not going by the rules.

This is not too far from me...closer to my Aunt Inez. I have many friends who have stationed there. I spoke to one tonight - he said they could've pulled it off. They would've died, but they could've pulled it off. Apparently, an unsecured road goes through the middle - I have never been there ... Very scary....

my husband argued with me this morning about these men. He says they are not terrorists. They attempted to attack a military installation and that makes it an act of war. No civilians around to terrorize. What do you think? |

Barri Sue, The problem is that this kind of attack IS pretty easy to pull off successfully. In one sense, they have an advantage because they can pick and choose the target and the time ... unfortunately, in the US most security rules and attitudes are pretty lax. Besides, it would be virtually impossible to elevate security EVERYPLACE. The terrorists can look at (for example) Ft Dix and if they find the security imposing, they can go the Holland Tunnel at rush hour. We need to realize we ARE at war on many fronts and drop the PCBS ... check IDs when suspicious, no ID? You're detained for investigation and possible deportation. We need to investigate all those with Visa's ... moved without notification or otherwise in violation? You're detained for possible deportation. Somalian muslim cab driver who denies rides to Americans? You're detained for possible deportation. The list goes on .... |

I think when they plan on going onto an Army base to deliver their pizzas equipped with AK 47's and AR 15's, they're not doing it to make sure they get a tip. They also made the statement that they didn't like it because Americans don't go along with their Islamic beliefs, so they were going to conduct a jihad. |

The pizza delivery driver had a pass to go on base. I can't believe that our bases are so easy to access. Why are we letting Arab civilians on base? More of that PCBS Toothless Dawg was talking about. Another thing, I've never seen a pizza delivery driver with six men in the car. They also took video of themselves practicing this Jihad and took it to a store to have it put on dvd. The clerk turned them in. They really aren't very smart are they. They don't have to be, they just count on us being under the muzzle of Political Correctness. Thank God that clerk wasn't afraid to turn them in. I saw the pictures of these scum on t.v.. They looked normal, friendly, like nice guys. According to this article their neighbors though they were nice. It just goes to show that you can't trust them just because they're nice to your face. We have to be suspicious of all of them in order to be safe from them. IMO |

hmmmm very good question. Here is what I believe ... Normally an act of war is against a recognized country with a recognized and uniformed army. The so called 'rules of war' and Geneva convention would come into play. This war on terror is different in that there is not a recognized country nor uniformed army that we are fighting. The battleground truly is the world, the enemy is someone dressed in civies or bedsheets and follows no rules other than their own or that of their imam (or whatever you call the koranator). My feeling is that calling these terrorists 'insurgents' gives them more respect than they are due. |

I just heard a caller on Rush say that Fort Dix was used as a temporary housing facility for Kosovo refugees after the Bosnian war. So that's why they know the base like the back of their hands! And this is the way they pay us back! That was under Clinton, now Bush is doing the same thing with the Iraqi's. That should be stopped in it's tracks now! Here's the story from 1999. |
