She is Evil, Evil, Evil, and if the American voters put her in office, they will find out just how EVIL she is!! I got a good one fer Ya Condor, but it ain't so nice to post, so I'll PM it to Ya! I used to do a lot of SWLing but haven't lately. The HF bands are so quite these days. I had my Novice when I was 12, I think. I finally let the ticket lapse. I was always more interested in building than talking and SSB was the techie straw that broke the camels back. SSB meant that I could no longer go to the dump for an old TV and build a transciever from it. That was back in the days when radio equipment was really expensive. it still is, but deal can be had now a days.

Well Condor..

Its a good Hobby, and things have changed since you had your Novice ticket! Just starting Feb 23rd, the code requirement is no longer required for any license! The novices and tech's are still limited a little, but once passing the General written, just about full priveledges on all bands. Just in the last few weeks with the no code requirement passing, there have been over 200,000 upgrades from Tech to General class! Plus, Gen, advanced and Extra were given 100 more Kc privileges on all bands, etc. I have not been to active the past 15 yrs, but got the bug again a couple weeks ago and set My station up out in the wifes office in the garage. I bought a 20,15&10 tri band beam a few weeks ago, and have it up now also! Got my 2KW amp working, and been having a ball working some DX.

A lot of us old timers are a little discouraged with them elimitating the code requirement, but times change I guess! When I got my license, it was a priviledge. Now its a right. But,everything else in this Country is going that way too! Times and Technoligy are just changeing at a ever faster pace!

There are quite a few internet Amateur swap nets, and there is a lot of good ssb gear at a good price now! There are also some on the Air swap nets on 40 mtrs where a fella can buy gear from locals. A whole pot load of gear on e-bay also, but one has to watch out for some of that stuff. Some of its reasonable, and some is a little high. I saw a Collins KWm2 go for over 10k last year. :banana-man: That seller sure found him a Fool, I'll tell Ya! Their maybe worth 12 hundred or so.

Well! Thats about the scoop. Now that the code requirement is non existent Ya outta think about trying for your ticket again! They we can do some on the Air yakking!! :thatfunny:

Ta Ta and 73's fer now! Gotta go out and get on the radio and see if any of these East Coasters are still up this late at night.

I still get the occassional pulse of interest. When we were in Washington, we went to a lot of Hamfests and enjoyed it. I still have trouble passing a radio without wanting to buy it. My hobby these days is pretty much doing things to the house and yard. When you move about a lot and finally settle down after retirement, you have a lot of catching up to do. Things that people have done to their retirement homes over twenty or so years, we are trying to do in a few - and on a tight budget!
