I was able to watch some of the show, but not all. I suppose it's not hard for folks to get so caught up in the world that they forget what it's like to be happy - to live simply - and have a positive attitude. Countrymouse, are you really Rhonda Byrne? I don't intend to be rude, but it was just a few weeks ago that you needed money for a home you were buying .... what's the deal? |

hey ali...no i'm not rhonda byrne...i actually got too busy to watch oprah the other day...i have seen the movie a few times...you can rent it online if you're interested...it's basically just more "tools" for working our ways through life...i enjoyed this movie and it does a good job at explaining some of the things i've unsuccessfully tried to express to y'all...the only thing i'm struggling with the right now is that, yes, the application of these "tools" is effective, but the movie, to me, still spoke to human greed...as one who looks more to living harmoniously with all, i'm not crazy about encouraging selfishness or greed... as far as the other question...my sister, it is the journey that counts, not the destination...i have shared much on this mountain and have enjoyed my time here...i have spent a great deal of time talking...i'm not used to that and quite frankly i am tired of talking...it is time to listen and live! my sister, i wish you and your family much love, light and many blessings on your journey!

From an old cartoon; " I know something_I won't tell_I won't tell_I won't tell" (Sing-3 times).....Later in the cartoon he lets out the secret; " Injun Joe is ticklish!!!" and he starts tickling the very big Injun Joe and Joe starts laughing. You can't even trust a cartoon character to keep a secret !!! |

countrymouse, >...i have shared much on this mountain and have enjoyed my time here...i have spent a great deal of time talking...i'm not used to that and quite frankly i am tired of talking...it is time to listen and live!< As to your "666" th post, congratulations. On this; >but the movie, to me, still spoke to human greed...as one who looks more to living harmoniously with all, i'm not crazy about encouraging selfishness or greed...< I didn't know anything about you asking anyone on here for money for a house? Would that be selfishness? Many people have financial needs that are members here and there, I do too, but I wouldn't ask these folks, I do not desire what others have earned. On this; >it is the journey that counts, not the destination...< Yes, but the destination helps make the decision and influence on how to get there. They are both important, there are many paths, but there is one that is best to take to get to the chosen destination. Thanks, Duke |

On light and light for the path( or if someone prefers-journey): The journey or path; Psa 119:105 Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. The light; Jhn 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. |

Which one of these has to do with something spoken in "secret", if any do ?;( I put it in red, but I didn't check to see if Jesus said each word or if the disciples said some of it themselves-it's still Holy Bible.) Mat 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. Mat 10:27 What I tell you in darkness, [that] speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, [that] preach ye upon the housetops. Luk 1:79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and [in] the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Luk 12:3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. Jhn 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. Jhn 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. |

May God bless us all with much light and peace through Him. Jhn 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Jhn 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Hope; 1Ti 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, [which is] our hope; 1Pe 1:3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, Act 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. To any or all; Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. On the above; the Holy Bible has much to say about the way, path, etc. Jesus is the way, the door, etc. For me, if I live life my way and not bow to His way then I am self willed and at odds with His way/will. Below we see; Psa 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore. Psa 27:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. Psa 119:35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight. Isa 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This [is] the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Mat 7:14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Wrong way(s), or journey or maybe path(s); Pro 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death. Pro 12:15 The way of a fool [is] right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel [is] wise. Pro 21:2 Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. 2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. Thanks, Duke |

T dawg, I hope you don't mind, but I copy pasted the whole editorial that your link leads to. I noticed the one part also that shows where they take that mess and try to mingle it with the Holy Bible. It will not mix and mingle and stay the truth. Several people have been doing that on here and on the other web site. Part of it reminded me of a story a young minister told me about an avowed satan worshipper in the early '70's. Some folks would rather fall for deception than accept the truth. Truth is the most important and T Dawg, I thank you for finding and posting the link and the quote you chose from it. Duke The 'LIBERAL' Secret, (link above in T Dawg's last post) Self-help gone nutty A craze called 'The Secret' blends Tony Robbins with 'The Da Vinci Code,' telling people to have it all without trying. By Karin Klein, KARIN KLEIN is a Times editorial writer. February 13, 2007 WHEN MY SISTER arrived from New York over the holidays, she plopped a hand-tooled leather satchel on my piano bench and said, "See the beautiful bag I manifested for myself?" Gorgeous, indeed. But manifested? Well, I suppose that's easier than dealing in cash. "Manifesting," for those outside the self-help loop, is the big buzzword from "The Secret," a new DVD with a tie-in book featuring the ancient idea of having it all without trying very hard. If "The Secret" had a plot, it might go something like "Tony Robbins uncovers the Judas Gospel and learns to use the Force." The DVD is screened regularly at gatherings of the energy-healer crowd. The video opens with a "Da Vinci Code"-style shot: A man in a ragged tunic makes off with a hot papyrus. A voice-over assures us that an ancient secret, hidden from most of mankind, is about to be revealed. (Insert little conspiracy montage: A medieval priestly type privately unrolls the secret scroll; men in suits scheme in a smoke-filled boardroom.) Then motivational speakers take turns elaborating on this idea: If you want something, think of it with loving and positive feelings and it will "manifest." The concept apparently stems from the work of Esther Hicks, a famous channeler. I never would have heard of "The Secret" if it weren't for my sister, the sort of person who has a spirit guide and professes to "massage energy." (Friends say the wrong sister moved to California.) But apparently it has found major cultural traction. It was featured on "Oprah" last week. The book is No. 4 on The Times' nonfiction bestseller list and No. 2 on Amazon (with the audio CD set No. 3). At my local Barnes & Noble, it was sold out. Americans are never too jaded for another get-rich-quick chimera. In "The Secret," real and sustained effort is unnecessary, even frowned on. The scheme lays out a "law of attraction" — a strange misreading of quantum physics — that asserts that the universe grants your wishes because you are the "most powerful transmission tower on in the world." Send out "wealth frequencies" with your thoughts and the universe's wealth frequencies will be pulled to you. Here was my favorite bit: "Food is not responsible for putting on weight. It is your thought that food is responsible for putting on weight that actually has food put on weight." It's a position that seems to have a lot in common with President Bush's ideas about global warming. Carbon emissions warm the Earth only if you worry that they will. On the flip side, nothing — nothing — happens to people that isn't brought to them by their own persistent thoughts, and the book strongly implies that this includes those killed in the Holocaust and the World Trade Center. Under this philosophy, why bother contributing to Oxfam or worrying about Darfur? What a guilt-reliever. Near as I can tell, the whole idea is just a new spin on the very old (and decidedly not secret) "The Power of Positive Thinking" wedded to "ask and you shall receive." So it's not surprising that its author, Australian TV producer Rhonda Byrne, is best known for a show called "The World's Greatest Commercials." Warming over others' old work appears to be her area of expertise. She took the well-worn ideas of some self-help gurus, customized them for the profoundly lazy, gave them a veneer of mysticism — and she tapped right into that wealth frequency. What a pro. Strange to say, people are buying it. Not just the book and DVD. The message. Therapists tell me they're starting to see clients who are headed for real trouble, immersing themselves in a dream world in which good things just come. The therapists obviously ought to visualize smarter clients. My sister says I'm over-intellectualizing. She, after all, had manifested a fine leather satchel. And I have to admit, if there were designer leather goods to be had out of this, I was interested. The reality was — drat it all — far more prosaic. Watching the DVD gave her the idea that she could afford this bag if she really wanted it, and so she went ahead and charged it. I say, if you need an Amex card to make a handbag appear, you're an amateur. |

I don't want to sound mean but looks like the same old package with a few pretty bows attached to make it look new. Humanism A philosophical system of thought that focuses on human value, thought, and actions. Humans are considered basically good and rationale creatures who can improve themselves and others through natural human abilities of reason and action. Secular Humanism is a late development emphasizing objectivity, human reason, and human standards that govern art, economics, ethics, and belief. As such, no deity is acknowledged. ( Dictionary of Theology) I would like to add in the cases where a "diety" is acknowledged in these "programs" to make it look like it's something that will fit with the Bible it is basically a version of a genie in a bottle. There only to grant our wishes and make life cozy for us. Isa. 55: 8-9 8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. 9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. |

T Dawg, I just wanted to be polite, I knew you wouldn't mind. At least 99.99999% sure. Thanks, Duke Adide in Him, Some of the deceptions people like that use are just twists on old deceptions. As we well know lucifer didn't retire right after the Garden of Eden fiasco, his bunch has been messing with people for many generations with much of the same tactics and sadly same basic results. I saw the Oprah show and couldn't stand it. It was nothing more than the old positive thinking message. Which I don't think is a bad idea to have a positive attitude, but like a lot of things, they took this to the extreme. My first encounter with this kind of philosophy was when I was 17. My parents took the family and one of my girlfriends on a trip to Lake Tahoe. My girlfriend and I met two guys there who were a few years older than us, and they started telling us about "meditation" and the "ohm" thing they do. They told us that by meditating and visualization we could have what ever we wanted. As an example they said if we wanted a red convertable, all we had to do was visualize it while meditating and making that ohm sound we could make it materialize. Well, we were young, but we weren't dumb, and we told them we didn't believe them. Listening to those people on Oprah was like listening to some of the people here on this board. They used the same buzz words, and said things like, speak positive things into the universe and the universe will give you what you want. What's very scary is that for quite a few years this philosopy has wormed it's way into a lot of churches under the guise of "Name it and claim it". I have the same problem with preachers who teach this as I do with the New Agers. I've heard them say, "Look at your empty wallet and tell it that it is full"! I know that God is our provider and he will give us what we need and the desire of our hearts, if we’re abiding in Him, and walking according to His will. But it is God who decides how He provides for us, not us, by any kind of magic formula we may recite.

. Now that, that's the real secret. It's all about abiding in Christ Jesus our Lord. This scripture comes to mind, If you ABIDE in me and my WORD abides in you, you may ask the Father for anything and it shall be done for you. I've heard it said, anything means anything. Well the problem with that, is, that does not include the abiding or the Word. From my understanding of the scriptures, to the very best of my ability, no where does it say to ask for riches, gold teeth , etc. Nor does it say I will give you a word of knowledge that contradicts with the word of God. I've known a lot of well meaning brothers and sisters in the Lord that believe that they can ask for anything and it will be done for them. Because after all is that not what the scriptures say? They have gone so far as to watch their words so carefully because there is power in what they say. For example, this person might have a headache but he will deny having a headache because if he says he has one it will be so, never mind that he already has one . Crazy huh? But yet that's the thinking I have encountered. It has become a superstitious kind of faith. A faith where the power is in mans word or thinking and not in the will or power of God. This kind of teaching opens way too many doors for the enemy. |

I received this in an email and thought it worth posting. bonds7 The Secret One day, one friend asked another, "How is it that you are always so happy? You have so much energy, and you never seem to get down." With her eyes smiling, she said, "I know the Secret!" "What secret is that?" To which she replied, "I'll tell you all about it, but you have to promise to share the Secret with others." "The Secret is this: I have learned there is little I can do in my life that will make me truly happy. I must depend on God to make me happy and to meet my needs. When a need arises in my life, I have to trust God to supply according to HIS riches. I have learned most of the time I don't need half of what I think I do. He has never let me down. Since I learned that 'Secret', I am happy." The questioner's first thought was, "That's too simple!" But upon reflecting over his own life he recalled how he thought a bigger house would make him happy, but it didn't! He thought a better paying job would make him happy, but it hadn't. When did he realize his greatest happiness? Sitting on the floor with his grandchildren, playing games, eating pizza or reading a story, a simple gift from God. Now you know it too! We can't depend on people to make us happy. Only GOD in His infinite wisdom can do that. Trust HIM! And now I pass the Secret on to you! So once you get it, what will you do? YOU have to tell someone the Secret, too! That GOD in His wisdom will take care of YOU! But it's not really a secret... We just have to believe it and do it... Really trust God! |

That's a wonderful 'secret' bonds! In this day and age, I think we're all looking for something to make us 'happy' and 'fulfilled'. I'll admit, I've taken alot of 'shortcuts' in my walk through life, and they never seemed to be very short ... just mostly shortcomings. I'm still not there yet, but I will be! |

I still hope someone can answer my last question about getting advertisements about free oprah tickets ? And I wouldn't want folks to miss telling a secret. Thanks, Duke |

I have not gotten that email Duke..... But the advertisers for the free sites will scan pages for key words and then place ads with similar interests on the page wtih that topic, I believe. AMM - is that correct? |

I got yet another oprah related advertisment, thankfully my junk mail filter is catching them. The main topic of this thread is worth talking about more, sorry I got us off topic. Thanks, Duke |
