Border Agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos have been ordered by Judge Kathleen Cardone to surrender to the United States Marshal by 3 pm (EST) today! Both agents had filed a motion with the court to remain free on bond while they appeal their case. With this ruling, the agents must begin serving their sentences beginning today! To read the story, and Grassfire's news release click here: http://www.dailybulletin.com/news/ci_5028599 Read Grassfire's release: http://grassfire.org/NewsReleases/20070117-229.htm I am outraged by this devastating ruling, and want our team to know that this issue is not over! This decision to send these men to prison--where they will likely be placed among the drug dealers and gang members they put in prison themselves will no doubt send a terrible message to every law enforcement official in the nation, that our justice department, our government no longer has your back! Just two weeks ago, National Guardsmen were fired upon on the border. But because they cannot engage, they had to retreat! This is utter madness. Yesterday, Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) delivered your petitions directly to the White House in a twelfth-hour effort to keep these men from going to prison. The White House did not respond. Why hasn't the President commented on this case? I want to know! As mentioned earlier, this issue is far from over. Grassfire is committed to working to free these men who swore to protect us. Ron De Jong and I will be presenting your petitions and meeting with members of the media today, and we will challenge the President and our Justice System... In short, we will be bold for these men, and I need you to do the same! I am personally appealing to each member of our Grassfire team to stand in the gap for agents Compean and Ramos. Continue telling their story to friends and rallying much needed grassroots support. But it can't end there. Continue pressuring the White House-- demanding they pardon these men! Here is the White House number: 202/456-1111 Together we must be bold for these dedicated family men who stood for us. Now we must stand for them until this terrible wrong is made right! I made my call to the White House, the Justice Department and my two senators and they now know my feelings on this issue. If any of you care about our countries direction, I would suggest that you call them about this madness. |

I saw Agent Ramos on Fox last night. He told the story of what happened that night. I don't know how in the world a jury convicted them. I pray to God that their sentences are overturned, and I will make those calls too. |

I had the Justice Department's phone number, but I must have deleted it. And I keep my 2 senators and representative numbers on my cell phone directory since they get a lot of calls from me about issues. If GW doesn't do anything about these two guys, I'm gonna keep the phone lines busy at the White House, at least that will keep somebody in a job answering the phone. |

Sorry, but I gave up trying to fathom what this administration is trying to prove long ago. It denies comprehension. I'd say the fact that their murder by inmates is a pretty compelling reason to grant a stay. But here's Tony Snow saying that what these agents did was unjustified attempted homicide, on grounds that fleeing alone isn't punishable by death. To my knowledge neither is unjustified attempted homicide. But like I said it denies comprehension. If these two are murdered while in court custody, I say that the judge is guilty of negligent homicide, with grounds for intent to same. If that standard were applied to a defendant, the proper charge would be unjustified homicide with malice and forethought - premed murder one. The judge would claim she didn't intend their death but only to prevent their flight; however that would solidly land her in negligent homicide. Let a jury decide - if they apply the same standard they did for the agents, the judge would go down. Are judges immune from arrest in Texas? One thing is obvious - this administration has ruled for the judges, not the agents. The executive has ruled for the judiciary, against the agents who are executive. CHINA MUST BE DESTROYED |

Duncan Hunter was on the local news here tonight and he said he introduced a bill today calling for a congressional pardon for Agents Ramos and Compean. |

I sure hope that it goes through. It looks like Bush is too quite on this issue. He should have stepped up to the plate and did something. I like what he does on fighting terrorism, but his record on illegal immigration and border issues, I have a very big problem with. |

I heard on Fox News today that President Bush has agreed to look at the case of these agents. Like many others, I don't agree with his handling of the illegal immigration issue, but I hope he steps up to the plate here and does the right thing! LET THESE AGENTS GO!

They probably got tired of answering the phone at the White House! He needs to also give the judge that ordered them to prison before they run out all their appeals the boot too! |

This clown is suing for 5 million, and was caught with a load of drugs. Guess he intends to be the millionaire inmate. The agents only hope is a presidential pardon, but I can't see Bush doing it. The judge is being a jerk. These guys should have known better - can't shoot fleeing suspects anymore - now the taxpayers are gonna get gigged for 5 million because of what they did, that goes into the pocket of a criminal. That is sick. Can't go along with any of this, but I can't give these two agents a halo either - they really screwed up. If I were Solomon I'd drop the drug rap on the dealer and the shooting rap on the agents - on condition that the dealer drop his suit and the agents resign. A jury nailed them so they must not have liked what they saw in the defendant's chairs - unless it was a directed verdict. Ugh what a mess. They'll do a few in protective and then get parole - don't get your hopes up for a pardon. |

From the Desk of: Steve Elliott, President Grassfire.org 1/19/2007 Richard, The Associated Press is reporting that President Bush is open to the possibility of a pardon for border agents, saying "there's a process for pardons." He added that the White House will review the case. Richard, although agents Compean and Ramos are serving their sentences, this is a grassroots victory. This was the first time the President publicly spoke on this case, and I believe it was due to intense growing pressure from Grassfire team members! Click to read the complete story: http://www.iht.com/bin/print.php?id=4261451 + + 265,000 and Growing During the DC press event last week, Ron De Jong and I presented 225,000 petitions--the same petitions that Rep. Poe delivered to the White House the day before Ramos and Compean surrendered to U.S. Marshals. In days we've added more than 40,000 citizen signatures! Keep rallying friends because it is making an impact. Ron and I have also been interviewed by numerous media outlets, and in fact, many radio stations around the country are picking up the banner for Ramos and Compean and steering their listeners to our petition, and urging them to contact the White House! ++ Action Item--Alert the media! Richard, in this update, we've included a special button and code. We are asking members of our team to send this button along with the special code to your local radio stations--urging them to place it on their homepage to rally additional support. Click here for your button and code: http://Grassfire.org/142/Add_Link.asp?RID=12150867 Additionally, if you blog, or have a homepage of your own, you can post this button. As people rally for the agents via your favorite radio station, blog, or homepage, you will see your personal impact grow for these agents! + + Special Audio Update Finally, don't miss our latest audio update. Ron and I discuss the latest in the case including questions and concerns some have raised about U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton’s unusual five-page document entitled "myth vs. reality". Click here for the audio update: http://www.grassfire.net/r.asp?u=1272&rid=12150867 Thanks for standing with Grassfire. This is truly an issue worth fighting for, and we are grateful for your amazing outpouring of support! Steve Elliott President Grassfire.org Alliance P.S: Again, please pass our special button on to your favorite radio stations and blogging sites. Urge them to use this button to rally support for agents Ramos and Compean! ++ Sign our Petition: http://www.grassfire.org/142/petition.asp?PID=12150867 ++ Read our News Release: http://grassfire.org/NewsReleases/20070117-229.htm |

The Greeks gave us medicine, but the Romans gave us law. While medicine took millenia to rise from quackery Roman law was near perfect from the start. What we see is devolutionary law - law going backwards. Here is a criminal getting a massive REWARD as a result of a criminal act! Here are the innocent (the public) being punished for the criminal act of two agents. In the heat of the moment these two agents forgot themselves and fired on a fleeing felon - something they knew very well they can't do. Even though their motives were sound, they violated the Roman precept that the State must never commit a crime; this makes the people the criminal. In my opinion the judge is holding to that standard, and is probably aware she will catch heck for it. On the other hand the dealer is a malefactor who intended to benefit from harming others, and will in fact become a rich man BECAUSE he chose that course, despite the fact that he was CAUGHT and PUNISHED! This is offal flying in the face of the Roman Senate's ruling that rewarding a crime is a WORSE crime than the crime that is rewarded. This is a TERRIBLE PRECEDENT - establishing a lawful reward for a criminal act! Madness! This is a question for the Supreme Court; were I a Justice here is how I would rule: 1. the defendants, knowing that they should not have fired did so. In mitigation they did so in the heat of the moment and not with intent to commit a crime in the name of the State - therefore their conviction is upheld, but the sentence is reduced to 10 years probation. 2. the defendant is a malefactor who set out with intent to harm others without just cause - the State's illegal act against him does not remove his culpability and has no influence on the judgement of his crime - however rewarding him for the State's act against him flies in the face of the precept that illegal acts must not be rewarded, therefore his claim for damages is nullified. It's simple as dirt - a Presidential pardon would allow the malefactor to gain a reward for a criminal act - I would rather see this case go to the Supreme Court and used to establish a landmark decision to outlaw lawsuits that reward a malefactor for a criminal act. That practice is MORALITY GONE WRONG and must be stopped before it destroys our society - Listen to the Romans! CHINA MUST BE DESTROYED |

Here's an update on what's happening with the Agents. There are also telephone numbers we can call to demand a pardon for them. Seems like the whole truth didn't come out during the trial. |

A request for help for the families of Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean came from Grassfire.org today. I feel so bad for these men and their families. From the Desk of: Steve Elliott, President Grassfire.org 7/11/2007 Linda, Wrongly imprisoned for doing their jobs as U.S. Border Patrol Agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are today 174 days into their decade long prison sentences--languishing in solitary confinement--hundreds of miles away from their families. Over the last six months, both of these decorated agents have missed their children’s birthdays, graduations, a high school reunion, a wedding anniversary--and what would have been a 12th year anniversary at the U.S. Border Patrol! Ignacio couldn't hold his son's hand and comfort him when he was hospitalized with meningitis. Both men have forever lost precious moments--hugs, and kisses from their adoring children--moments that can never be recaptured. Meanwhile, half a country away, Patty Compean and Monica Ramos heroically press on--holding their families together as best they can, praying that their husbands will one day return to them. But the emotional and financial struggles are intensifying for both women. Only days ago I learned that Monica will soon be losing her job (the company she works for has been sold and will be relocating). Linda, as the President of Grassfire, I am asking ALL members of our team to join with me in helping to bring some relief to these two families by clicking here: http://www.grassfire.org/7142/offer.asp?rid=13369445 Earlier in the year, I sent out a similar request, and I was absolutely stunned by the outpouring of support for these two families! Both Monica and Patty were blessed by the gift we presented them on your behalf, and expressed thankfulness to Grassfire and others for helping to lift their burden and free their husbands. Linda, a gift of $5, $10, $20 will certainly go a long way to alleviate some of the financial strain both are feeling at this terrible time in their lives. Click here to help: http://www.grassfire.org/7142/offer.asp?rid=13369445 Like before, Grassfire will disperse all monies collected (less credit card fees) equally between the two families in the days ahead. Linda, nothing would make me happier than to be able to send Monica and Patty a check from the Grassfire team members who are helping to carry their cross. Please know that Grassfire is continuing to work with Congressional leaders to free these two dedicated family men and return them to their families. I’m hopeful that many of you will join with me in doing what we can to ease the financial weight that is upon them. Click here to help: http://www.grassfire.org/7142/offer.asp?rid=13369445 Thank you in advance for helping the Ramos and Compean families at this time. Steve Elliott President Grassfire.org Alliance P.S: Monica Ramos has written an incredible entry on her FireSociety blog that I’m asking all of you to read.
