I hope I'm right in thinking that a lot of good folks will come out from their hiding places, no longer afraid to fight for a democracy in their country....that's my prayer and hope for them, now that this dictator is dead.
When Bin Laden is found...dead or alive...I hope that that who ever finds him, will put a few more holes in his head.

Ditto that Ali! You just echoed my thoughts I put on the other thread about Saddam.

I pray for our troops also. My cousin Michael is there doing his second tour.

I heard the generals talking on Fox say they don't think there will be too much of an uproar over his death, as most Iraqi's wanted him dead, except for the Sunni's from his home town.

Glad you're home Steven1.

Reports I read state that he did. Sez he was talking with his executioners (c'mon guys, I'll double the virgins if'n you let me go), and refused the hood. It was apparently a quick, successful drop.

I haven't heard much on the news about any violence due to the rope drop of saddam. I wonder if the citizen's over there are too busy picking popcorn husks out of their teeth this morning and don't have time to set off a few bombs? <_<

Very interesting watching the news and seeing what Iraqi people in the US are saying. Nice to see them behaving back home. Seems to be an overwhelming feeling of this being a GREAT thing both back home and here. Very interesting.

If true then good - we don't have the blood of a coward on us.
He died like a soldier - too bad he didn't live like one. A good death for a bad life.

Chalk up one for the good guys - we gave him a better end than he would have given us.

AMERICA VICTA!

It's amazing that we have nuts like that in this country. I read the one comment that some nut on there was saying that Bush had him hung and wanted to know the reason why.

Huffington takes whatever side gets her the most attention bashing America, she's such a fraud, she makes me vomit.

The European Union spokesman came out and said Sadaam's death sentence was "barbaric," but did not mention any of the acts against hundreds of thousands of innocent citizens that barbarian did. Sure is obvious something is wrong with their picture, they must be getting money for saying things like that, they leave so much out to get their point out front.

You said it bsb. He can't be both yet they portray him as both in the same article!! I agree with Gary, I got thru a small bit and then decided they had nothing to say and quit reading it. The BS meter is stuck on high after reading just a small portion of it.

I guess everyone knew it wouldn't be long before the execution showed up on the 'net. First thing I saw this morning was the full execution via cellphone camera. Quality is very poor, guy holding the camera must have the DTs cause he is shaking so bad. There are a couple of shots afterward when camera flashes would illuminate under the gallows of Saddam. From the look on his face, I think he had just seen his virgins he would be stuck with for the first time ... achmed, sohail, mohammed ...

I'm not going to post the link but it is out there in the usual places ...

HEYYY I just noticed something. What did Ford say about the war? I didn't hear anything about that.

This was the headline:

President Gerald Ford: Iraq War Not Justified

It was a story that was dug up from an interview with CBS in 2004. BUT this is what President Gerald Ford actually said:

Quote:

Ford "very strongly" disagreed with the current president's justifications for invading Iraq and said he would have pushed alternatives, such as sanctions, much more vigorously, the Post's Bob Woodward wrote. The story initially was posted on the newspaper's Internet site Wednesday night.

"I don't think I would have gone to war," Ford told Woodward a little more than a year after President Bush launched the invasion.

In the tape-recorded interview, Ford was critical not only of Mr. Bush but also of Vice President Dick Cheney — Ford's White House chief of staff — and then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, who served as Ford's chief of staff and then his secretary of defense.

"Rumsfeld and Cheney and the president made a big mistake in justifying going into the war in Iraq. They put the emphasis on weapons of mass destruction," Ford said. "And now, I've never publicly said I thought they made a mistake, but I felt very strongly it was an error in how they should justify what they were going to do."

Ford also criticized the notion that the United States should engage in a war in order to spread democracy.

"Well, I can understand the theory of wanting to free people," Ford said, but added he was unsure "whether you can detach that from the obligation number one, of what's in our national interest." Ford said: "And I just don't think we should go hellfire damnation around the globe freeing people, unless it is directly related to our own national security."

Woodward wrote that the interview took place for a future book project, though the former president said his comments could be published at any time after his death.

"Saddam Hussein was an evil person and there was justification to get rid of him," he observed to the Daily News last May under an agreement similar to Woodward's. "But we shouldn't have put the basis on weapons of destruction. That was a bad mistake. Where does (Bush) get his advice?"

It seems our media does not know how to really read the words they actually heard. :hammerhead:

That President Ford disagreed with using WMD as a justification to invading Iraq, but that "there was justification to get rid of" Saddam Hussein.
