The older birds interest me since I was used to seeing a lot of the older ones on my Korean tour. In particular the old F-86, the C-124, the B-25 Mitchell Bomber and several others that flew in and out of Kimpo Air Base K-14 when I was stationed right at the end of it's runway. I got very famaliar seeing those 3 planes flying right over the top of our compound on a daily basis. All of those old planes are now history as modern ones have taken their place. A few years back there was a air show at the Air National Guard base in Birmingham that was free for all to attend. I went down there and saw a wide selection of the old planes and new ones also. I wish they would put that back on each year as it was a very interesting show for the public. The old B-52 that was there was a treat to see up close, one huge plane when you're right next to it. Then one day on the way to work, I watched a big Russian cargo plane come in for a landing at the Birmingham airport and it was approaching right over the top of me as I was traveling on I-20 I-59 and couldn't believe such a big plane could land there. It was coming in bringing in a load of parts for the Honda plant that was needed quickly to keep the production line running. That was the biggest plane I have ever seen before. |

The Russkies had some awesome planes. They had some very interesting rotary winged craft as well. There was a helo parked at the airport in Kiev that had two rotors mounted one above the other. |

Here's a pic from another source of the Russian cargo plane that I saw. It's supposed to be the largest cargo plane in the world.
