When my brother was in high school he made two end tables, a coffee table, and a table with a door in it. Then he made my mother a beautiful oak bookcase. He loves wood working and we have a rather nice shop. (when pa ain't doin his "metalurgy" in it). I'll have to take some pictures of the furiture for you. He thinks that they aren't worth anything, but the furniture store around here has only particle board stuff, at least Jess uses real wood!!!

Sounds like a good, DIY sort of a family to me. I hate the particle board stuff they sell these days. I just spent too many hours refinishing the 30 year old vanity in a bathroom because the new, expensive stuff was sawdust just waiting to do the dust to dust thing.

We try our best. Pa's kinda into the new stuff, but the rest of us would rather be a little more old fashioned. We also make chip and dip bowls, shelves, regular bowls, and I would love to get into whittling. Jess wants to start making a forge, (we're real big into Dark Ages stuff). And we're trying to find out how to fix up an old china cabinet we found in a friends house.

I'd like to see some pictures of the furniture. I like furniture that is made out of all real wood.

I am with all of you guys, the things you can buy in the stores these days isn't worth the money you have to pay for it. I'll have to go back through some of the picutres I have around and post a few. My husband makes a lot of stuff out of hardwood. So far he has made me a curio cabinet, china hutch, coffee table with matching end tables, my computer desk, blanket chest and several shelfs for all my bells.
He works with the wood from start to finish. We purchase rough sawn lumber from some Amish close by and do all the milling in his work shop. It's just a hobby he has and it keeps him out of my hair so I can do other things.
I'll find some of those pictures after the holidays and post them.Posted Image

This is just a small sample of a couple things my husband has made. He made these tribute boxes for WyoArmyMom for her two beloved pets she had lost and you can also see the top part of my coffee table he made for me

We made all our own furniture here.. From the Kitchen table to the Bedroom set, dresser, Living room couch, end tables, everything... it was really fun, and heck, if we made a mistake? Just toss it in the wood-burner that was heating the garage, and nobody ever sees it!

We also put in knotty pine thru-out the house, but cedar in the master bedroom..

It was an experience, especially with some of my hobbies, if I need a picture framed, I just give hubby the measurements, and he makes it... I like the butternut for frames, and oh, that birdseye is really awesome too!

You can do anything you put your mind too, but the impossible just takes a little longer! :) :banana-man:

I need to make a headboard for my bed. I've priced the press board types and they cost an awful lot. Well over $100 for some of that stuff. I'm sure the press (particle) board didn't cost that much.

I'll probably use a good quality pine, maybe oak. smiley-git-r-done

smiley-git-r-done is right, mugrb, Just measure and 'git-r-done'... One thing for sure, if you make a mistake, just pop it into the wood-burner! :garfield:
Hey, NO particleboard. Use real wood...

Get your measurements, and then sit and draw up your plans.. I'll try to get some better pics of my stuff, the ones I just posted are from a 35mm camera, with film... Before I got the digital.... We built everything in our place, including the walls and floor. Most is knotty pine, but one room is all cedar... NICE..... :D

Why, shucks, thank you ! Hubby and I both worked on these projects, and was in no hurry to get them done.. Sometimes, you have to take your time, and also, not too shabby for a guy who never done anything with wood except to put it in the wood-burner, eh? :rotfl: We learned, tho.... I'll have to look up some more pics of the head-boards we made...

Check out the Taxidermy thread, I did post some new pics of the deer-foot lamp and turkey lamp there... They are quite nice also...

Have a great evening..... :)
