´In Gold We Trust´ 13:57 Nov 27, '06 / 6 Kislev 5767 (IsraelNN.com) The American mint has removed the official "In God We Trust" motto from the face of it dollar coin and has relegated it to the gold-colored coin's thin edge. Mint officials said the reason for the change is to leave more room for portraits of former presidents and the Statue of Liberty. The reference on the coin to the Almighty is the most common place for the motto, which was adopted by an act of Congress in 1956. |

Funny how there has been plenty of room since 1956 to place Presidential portraits. I don't like fake gold either! |

I can't believe this has really happened! This is something that we all need to band together and make a lot of noise about. Thanks for the info. |

By them taking the liberty to remove the motto, I think the new dollar coing will go the same route as all the other dollar coins that they have came up with. I guess they have forgotten who the majority is up there. The majority is people that would use the coin. |

Another thing that struck me about this article ... it was reported by the Israeli Press. I guess our own press doesn't feel this is news? |

They didn't actually remove the words In God We Trust, they moved them to the rim of the coin. Here's a link showing the new coin: http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?p=8148 |

Thank you Linda for that link. For some reason I couldn't view everything but I did see enough. There are so many durn currencies coming out now that I can't keep up. The dollar coin that is similar in size to the quarter is a travesty. The first time I bought stamps at the post office machine and got back a bunch of those saquajawia (SP????) coins I was ready to bust the machine for ripping me off and giving me back slugs Then there was the time in 7-11 where the clerk gave me back one of the new $10 bills. Fortunately for both of us, another customer let me know that it was the new bill ... even if it did look like monopoly money Jim |

And just a word of caution to you folks about somethin you may not know.. Those new BILLs have an electronic PIN in em and there is a pen-like thang that people can run over your Christmas Cards and mail to tell if there is money inside and how much, so they can steal it !! Use Checks or Money Orders !! I tell ya'll this cause there were a lot of stolen mail this past year, and a lot of that mail had Cash Money in it.. If not for you just losin your money to thieves, dont send cash to maybe keep somebody from becomin a criminal.. |
