I have the opportunity of living about 3 miles from this new world class Marine Corps Museum and Heritage Center. Today I made my first visit albeit a short and quick tour. It is a wonderful museum with excellent exhibits and interactive displays. It opened on November 10, 2006 and is expected to accomodate 600,000 people per year. I would like to share a few of the pictures I took this morning.

I will split the pictures up in several posts. I'm not sure how many I can put in one post but I'll do 5 each to start.

I love this architecture. Sympolic of the flag raising on Iwo Jima during WW-II. It rises majestically above I-95N with the sun glinting off the glass. Goosebumps!!

Tha's it folks. At least for this visit. There will be many more in the future as there are still rooms that I did not see even though I spent 2 1/2 hours this morning. It is a museum I urge everyone to visit when they are in the area. Also, pay your respects at to those who have passed on at the Quantico National Cemetary only two miles down the road. It is just as impressive and honorable as Arlington.

Laurie & Sunshine,

It is a huge improvement over the old museum that was in several old 1 story buildings on mainside. It was a good exhibit but not world class such as the new one. It is well worth the visit whenever you are in this area.

Linda,

Cool fact ... I showed my wife the pictures that I posted here. When she looked at the one of the bricks along the memorial walk her face paled. The husband of a friend of hers is named 'Bill Rector' ... and he is in Iraq. As I was walking along the memorial walk, I was drawn to the brick with the leaf overlayed ... and took the picture. God works in mysterious ways (to us) ...

Thank you for your comments,

Jim

Jim, those are awesome pictures! I'm sorry I didn't have the time to swing over to I-95 and see it. Guess that means I'll just have to take another road trip! :D

Sue,

Let me know when you visit and my wife and I will go with you. I expect I will be making several trips next summer. I know I'm taking my grandson and my wife's nephew at least once.
