I'm writing this at the request of my counsellor who is treating me for depression. I've had ADR and now having further problems with my spine. There is travelling that I can't do or I'm very limited on the distances that I can travel plus the pain. There is no objective in life and I put a lot of weight on with lack of activity due to the pain and the depression. It's always been a problem following surgery and pre-surgery about putting weight on, I think mine is mainly from fluids so I am on water tablets to try and help. We are having people register but not posting here, would you please post if you have registered and keep the board active best, Alastair :-) |

CBT/Talking therapies are very effective with any mental health issues. The big thing I've found is not to look for the day you are "cured" but to use coping strategies and cope day to day. When days you cope come together more and more often then you are managing well. When they don't its time to focus more on your strategies or look what you can change or develop to be more effective. |

I'm sorry to hear that your charitee failed. Somewhere I've missed this because I've got a charitee which I had done in 2002 and it's still going strong. Email me and tell me the story please or put it on here if you haven't done best, Alastair

Thanks for the link to the thread, it doesn't go back as far as your charitee implant failing and yours is the only one that I have heard of failing. Did they take the implant out and do a fusion? This is the usual route Best, Alastair

Hi Alastair, I know exactly how you feel and can commiserate with you. I had my Lumbar ADR nearly 3 years ago and it is still fine but I'm still having lots of pain in my facets. I have had over 22 lots of injections (in 4 joints at a time) over 7 years. I have been told that I can't have any more. I now have osteopenia (unsure if the steroid injections caused it or not.) I am waiting for facet ablations, but am worried about my future if these do not work. Also, I had a cervical C5/6 fusion on 31/3/15, which hasn't worked. It has been a fiasco from start to finish. I should have had a cervical ADR in November last year but NHS England withdrew funding for them at my Hospital. I then had to wait another 4 months for my operation, and due to pain and pressure from work, I had no choice but to have the fusion. I was then wrongly sent for physio, even though I should have been resting my neck and allowing it to fuse. To cut a long story short, I am still in a lot of pain in my neck and have restricted movement. I have had to leave my job and be redeployed in another role, from 28 hours to 15, and a pay band lower, causing money worries on top of everything. I am barely managing to work at all. I am still suffering with constant pain, depression, and to top it all off the Consultant has discharged me over my neck problems I am not even sure if I'm under the Hospital for my lumbar spine problems! I have bowel and urinary problems since. I know how you feel, I have put weight on and at 49 I dread the thought of what the future holds. |

Hi Alastair, I haven't wrote on here for a very long time, the reason being is that not much hasn't changed and to be honest any communication regarding my back brings me to tears but saw your post and although I have no words of wisdom I just wanted to let you know that I to know how you feel. Panic attacks and depression are awful. Just when I thought my life couldn't get much worse after the unsuccessful adr and it's weird wedged position, as now at the rear end the plates are touching which causes a whole load of other problems, depression punched my right in the face. The thing that helps me is my children and husband so hold those dear to you close and hold on to them tight as they will see you through. I know I haven't said much Alastair but just wanted to give what support I can to you. Take care x |

Thanks for your reply I'm extremely lucky that I was a wonderful wife who can put up and tolerate my depression. I'm going for an MRI scan on Monday to see what the damages but meanwhile taking Co-Codomol to try and ease the pain down in addition to the Bu trains patches. They are causing constipation as you can guess. best, Alastair

I have cancelled MRI scan, and simply shaking during the day and it will not be practical. I've gone on to medication and hopefully that will help anybody else have these problems in depression? |
