Hi Everyone,
it is a long time since I posted. I had a lumbar L5/S1 Activ L disc replacement in Dec 2012 with Mr Shackleford which was a great success, the only problem being that I still have facet blocks for facet joint arthritis (for which I am awaiting facet joint ablations.)

My problem is, that I had a fall down some stairs on holiday in June, and since then developed a neck problem. I am in awful pain in my neck, shoulder and arms, the right one in particular. I had an MRI and which showed that I have a damaged disc at C5/6 which is pressing on the nerve and also degeneration in my neck. I am on a strong mixture of medication and I am also off sick from work, as I'm unable to do my job until I have surgery. I am listed for cervical ADR in 2 weeks.

I am very nervous about undergoing surgery again as the last one is still very fresh in my memory, although I have had a good result from it.
Has anyone got any advice for before or after surgery that they could help me with?

Thanks
Joanne

Bowel and bladder incontinence (waiting to hear if it is nerve damage) and long term depression due to constant pain and disc trouble at the top, middle and bottom of spine.

If you had a good result following your previous surgery then I would think you would be optimistic that having another one.

It sounds awfully bad luck having taken a tumble down some stairs but if you're going back to Shackleford I would be quietly confident
Best,
Alastair :-)

I have had L5/S1 and also C5/6 and can honestly say the lower back was a lot worse, at least with your neck you can get out of bed and be walking pretty quick. And as said you have had a good outcome before, I am sure you will again!

Thank you everyone for replying. This surgery is with Ms Morgan who is a Consultant who works with Mr Shackleford. I just wondered if anyone had any pre op or post op advice on what to/what not to do before and after surgery. I read lots of advice before my lumbar ADR but can't find much about cervical ADR. I look forward to hearing from you as my surgery is less than 2 weeks away,
Thanks
Joanne
