Hello Alastair, Thought this may ring a bell with you its called The Intracept Procedure is typically performed in about one hour. During the treatment, doctors make a small (2cm) incision in the lower back. Following this, a specialized probe is advanced into the vertebrae and positioned at the precise location of the pain-sensing, basivertebral nerve. Once positioned, the Intracept probe uses radiofrequency energy (heat) to disable the basivertebral nerve, rendering it unable to transmit pain signals. This may help relieve the symptoms of chronic low back pain. I have a funny feeling that the Spanish surgeon I am seeing is making me a candidate and if I remember, it works for some people and not for others. In fact I seem to remember you having this procedure. Its 2 years now since I got on the Spanish Health System and I am no more nearer than I was in England. I saw him in April and he wrote on a bit of paper that I had to go to the pain clinic to have an injection to see exactly where the pain was coming from. I had an appointment in September when I got there there was no injection just more pills. Peter dictated me a letter to the surgeon and within 10 days I have an appointment to see him in 10 days - I did mentioned that the procedure hadn't been done so was wondering if the intracept procedure above was what it was all about. Fed up - all this time and no where nearer - got lots of pills though and so far I have cost the Spanish system 6,000€ - on our prescription it tells you - although I know that Spain gets £3,000 a year for me. So it seems we are quits. I can't think that this has anything to do with me waiting. The pain clinic gave me Acoxia (or the Spanish equiv) which I have stopped taking as it makes no difference and Tramadol which added to the 8 i take a day of Pazital makes the maximum I can take. I stopped taking Tramadol it was sending me to sleep. I was prepared to go private but look forward to seeing Garrido now. (last time we had to cancel our holiday because of the appointment I just hope that this holiday won't be cancelled). Hope you are doing nicely, write me an email with the news. From me in Spain |
| After being messed about by my doctors in Kendal for many years I went privately in 2009 with Mr Shackleford. Because of my age I couldn't have ADR instead he decompressed L4/5 and L3/4 Still got issues: sciatica, groin pain. Seeing consultant in February in Spain where I now live. We will see .................... | |

Hi Anne that sounds like a different version of abalations, if you have this and it's helpful please keep us updated with how you get on. I've got a specialist who is doing abalations on muscles instead of nerves and can't give an explanation as to why he's really doing this. I think I might have to fly out to Germany yet again to get any sense out of the doctors who reckoned to be pain specialist. The decision will be made in the next 2 weeks, if I fly out to Germany it will be to Bonn and I'll start a separate thread on the board best, Alastair
