Hi
I have been absent for awhile due mainly to having a fairly successful though not complete recovery from adr at c4/5 in January 2012.

I last saw my surgeon in March who told me c5/6 would need doing eventually but not yet as the adr above releases the pressure. He discharged me at this point.

For the last 2 weeks I have had a return of the muscle weakness in my upper arms and legs. I have a little neck pain but not much. I have odd sensations in my hands again and lots of fascillations in my legs, also my balance is off again.

People are commenting that I am limping again, I am trying hard not to panic but could this just be a blimp? Last mri did show c5/6 to be poor but I was improving. There was small amount of movement forward in the adr.

Advice greatly welcomed.

If things start to get worse, you need to be back to your surgeon because it sounds as if you've got some retrolythesis at that level. It's always worth getting things checked up early before they develop into something else which then affects another part of your body
best,
Alastair :D

Hi,

I have seen the surgeon and he won't commit to anything until I have a mri scan so I am having that this Friday, I hate that machine but have to do it unmedicated as going straight from work :( xx

Good luck with the MRI scan, I know just what you mean it's absolutely horrible down the tube if you're sensitive to it.

Do come back and let us know the outcome
best wishes,
Alastair :D

Hi,

I saw my surgeon yesterday and unfortunately I need ADR on c5/6 :( he is keen to operate ASAP so I don't get as bad as last time but waiting list is up to 12 mths.

He will go in through my old scar and I will have a plastic implant, apparently these show up on MRI better.

I am massively disappointed but at least we caught this disc earlyish, I have neurological symptoms but I am able to cope ok.

I didn't ask about implications/contra indications of a second ADR. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Lisa xx

Hi Lisa,

I can understand your disappointment and 'm sorry you are facing surgery again, that's too bad, at least you know what to expect second time round. Its not really a surprise as your surgeon did say this level would need doing but its come sooner than anticipated it seems. The waiting list isn't good but certainly not unusual in the NHS.

I hope the waiting time goes quickly for you, are you able go in at short notice if they have any cancellations? If so it may be worth letting the admissions department know.

Best wishes

Lynda

Hi both,

I will definitely do that, my surgeon is going to push it his end also. Alistair I didn't think to ask about the implant I was a bit taken aback about having more surgery. I currently have a mobi-c at c4/5.

Regards

Hi Lisa,
I can understand you being taken aback by being told to need more surgery, try and get an overview if you can have your entire situation both lumbar and cervical if possible.

It's always upsetting to be told something negative especially when you're making good progress as you have done in the past
best,
Alastair :D
