I Cannot sleep lying down. I had pulse RF ablations just over a month ago, picked up a chest infection in the hospital, ended up on antibiotics because the coughing was irritating where the surgery was. I'm on Bu trans patches at the moment, was hoping to come off them this week but things have gone really badly and it's at night time. I can't lie down flat to sleep it's too painful where the surgery was done. I've done a couple of quick upgrades from 5 µg up to 15 µg. The maximum that I've been on is 20 µg I'm having to sleep sitting up if I'm getting out of this problem and jiggling pillows about to get into that situation. Has anybody else got this only being able to sleep sitting up? |

After my fusions i have had to sleep reclined rather than lying down, I have then gradually reduced the angle on either my bed or electric chair to get to a lying position eventually. This took months, sleeping took a while to get easier, the bed & chair were a complete godsend. Sorry you are having this problem and hope things ease soon. |

Thanks for that Alison, I'm going to try and gradually decrease the angle but it's very good to know that you have done this and succeeded best wishes, Alastair

Hi Alastair, I can sympathise with what you are going through. For months now I dread going to bed. I used to be able to get some sleep without excrutiating pain by lying on my right hand side with my knees bent and a pillow between my knees. But not anymore. I go to bed in pain and wake up in excrutiating pain all through the night. When it is really bad and the excrutiating pain keeps going all through the day, I have to sleep in my recliner chair. I don't get a "proper" sleep in my recliner chair, I seem to only dose. Having Fibromyalgia, not getting any "proper" sleep has quite a severe effect on my life. I nodd off anywhere at any time. I have opted for my facet joint spacer operation, which I have booked for 2 weeks time. The pain, especially at night, is so bad that I can't go on anymore without trying this operation. Do you have an adjustable bed? I bought one hoping that being able to change the head and foot height of the bed might help my pain but it didn't. The pillow between my legs helped for a small time, but it seems it is now nothing helps. |

Hi, I have not got an adjustable bed, I've just done things with pillows which seems to be helpful especially a big V pillow best, Alastair

Alastair I'm so very sorry you are having such a rotten time - and yet you still offer great support to so many people. You really are a Star and very much appreciated I still have to sleep semi laying due to thoracic pain and no possibility of sleeping on my right side due to the thoroscapular fusion. I have managed to gradually recline further tho and the mountain of pillows does seem to have reduced Wishing you well Alastair, you truly deserve some respite from this horrid pain. take good care, Shirley |

Thanks Shirley, I'm just trying to go now onto 3 pillows and sleep at an angle and that seems to be reasonably successful but nothing fantastic at the moment. I got down to 5 µg of Bu trans, but had to go back up and I'm back upon 15 µg, having problems with the doctor not putting this on my repeat prescription because it's a CLASSIFIED drug, emailed my specialist who hopefully will put a boot up the backside of the doctor best, Alastair
