Hi All, I thought its time to post an update on what I have been up to over the past few weeks. I have had my 6 week appointment with Mr S, he and I are both very pleased with my progress. I am muddling through with physio exercises – they look so easy in the room but are soon forgotten a day or so later. I have 1 more physio class at 12 weeks and all being well will be discharged. With respect to medication, having spent maybe 18months plus on Fentanyl I have gone “cold turkey” this week and so far am free of ALL medication, no anti inflammatories, no paracetemol even. Feeling rubbish with the withdrawl symptoms but that should pass with time. I have a bag full of medication if I need it but we’ll see how it goes. I am not completely pain free but as things stand I can tolerate the pain I experience. If I need any pain relief I am hoping it will only be occasional and over the counter now rather than prescription. So what does that leave, I returned to work at 9 weeks post op, light duties, mornings only at the mo but we’re working on extending that. I am managing my day with a variation of sitting standing and walking etc and this seems to work ok for me. Life at home is back to normal, I can drive, do the school run, cook, shop, clean the windows, contemplating some decorating – whatever I want to do within reason and in no more discomfort than when lying down. Its quite tough to write all that I have, as it makes me feel awkward that I am recovering well when others are clearly struggling, my experience of the surgery and recovery is good, actually that’s wrong, very good and I am feeling more confident with each day that I will make a full and complete recovery. I know its early days still and I am very conscious to ensure that I don’t over do it – I don’t think there are too many who have experienced both cervical and lumbar ADR and I know that we are all different cases but for me now the light really is at the end of the tunnel and its almost within reach. Best Wishes |

That's brilliant news and I hope your recovery continues to go well. I will be in the same position as you soon when I have 2 discs replaced in my neck by Mr Shackleford this year, having had lumbar ADR last year. I hope my results are as good as yours. I am sure you will have felt a difference with the recovery from the lumbar than the cervical surgery eh? Wishing you continued success - I think quite a few of the successes from the forum disappear in the big wide world and rightly so - so don't feel bad about writing about your successes - it gives others great encouragement.
