Hi I'm 7 weeks post op the same op, I was pretty well stuffed at 2 weeks too. Just make sure you don't lie in bed all day, you'll have to spend a lot of time lying down, just break it up with a little walk every now and then (to the end of the hall etc) 30 yards is very short, but sounds like you were in a bad way pre-op so it will be harder. If you're doing hydro, physio, walking etc they say it takes 6 weeks to start freeing up, 3 months to reach pre-op level or there about, 3-6 month you make a lot of gains, a year out you're fully recovered. If your deconditioned it will be even longer, and a normal recovery can expect to take pain meds for 3 months plus. I wouldn't worry, it's normal to be banged up now, it is a long recovery w/fusion. Chris. |

thanks for your kind replies - i'm actually feeling really well, even had a glass of wine last night which was quite exciting on the morphine and diazepam!! it's just mr wilson has said by the time i go back to see him on the 21st feb i should be sitting for an hour, walking for half an hour and pottering round the house the rest of the day - anything except lying down - pain free. This seems a huge leap to me and its made me worried i'm not doing as well as i should be by having to be in bed so much at the half way stage. i feel much cheerier reading your replies though, thank you. Would be surprised if anyone has done so much ,painfree, in a month, Charlotte, you sound as though you are doing ok so far. Don't worry too much about it, just keep pottering and doing the exercises you were given in hospital and building on that each day. Love Gilly xxx |

Hi You sound to be doing great. I slept a lot but do try to walk for a minute every couple of hours. Don't beat yourself up about how you are doing. Everyone always want to speed the healing process up. Alastair was constantly tell me to slow down. Stay positive, give yourself a pat on the back (as my consultant tells everyone). Willtom |
