Hi everyone I havent been on here for a while due to family problems but thanks for the advice on the prebagablin, i managed to see me shacklefords side kick a couple of weeks ago and he prescribed a much higher dose (75mg twice per day). He seemed to think things are going well so far and has scheduled me to go back in six months. He never mentioned an xray though, and ive noticed on here that this seems to be a regular thing to do. Do people think i need to be asking for an xray to make sure things are ok? I am now managing to walk for about two hours without feeling pain (great for shopping!) on a normal day i am doing about three miles spread throughout the day and doing physio three times a day. Im still on loads of medication which im sure helps me to do the above, eg tramadol 100mg x4 per day, 75mg prebagablin x2 per day, cocodamol 100mg x4 per day, amitryptaline 25mg x1 per day. As you can see its a huge amount of tabs to be taking and im wondering at what stage i start to reduce them. Mr shacks sidekick said to continue with them for at least three months until everything has healed inside but i worry that im doing my body damage numbing everything and exercising. But the chap at the hospital said to continue as i am with the meds in order to do the physio and exercise. I suppose i should do as im told but i do wonder if i am doing too much. The tabs are also making me feel tired and constipated and i have become a good friend of senna!. In terms of pain levels i get a fuzzy, achy left leg quite often and feel like i need a good massage all of the time because my muscles are so tense and quite often i feel sick, my skin is also really dry especially on my feet. Part of me wants to begin to reduce the tabs slowly so i know for real how much pain i am left with since the op. But i guess that is natural. Anyways enough of my rambles!!

hi lois ,i just had xray at 12 weeks and go back at 9 months post op next june for another. i feel good ,dont take meds unless ive had a busy day with housework or grandkids etc then some tramodol and diclofenic which has made a big difference when i need relief. i hated amitripaline ,made me like a zombie. in the first couple of months after op i had slow bowels and it really wouldnt shift so i took laevolac which is from chemist. makes poo softer to pass. helped me lots. my bowel habits are the one thing that has changed since op ,.i think they were put back in differently than how they were before.it all still works but mostly every couple of days seems normal now. mr s also recommended the gym balls and it helped me alot with physio, try to get one and physio gives you exercises for them. best wishes for happy new year and good recovery . |

Hi Lois I was given the same advice by Mr Shackleford's understudy and was quite surprised as I thought I would be told to try and reduce the painkillers as soon as possible but have to say just coming up to a year after my op, he was right. I think it is more important to take then and keep mobile, than reduce them and lose it. I have been able to reduce them over the past three months and I am now off the morphine. I know it seems a long time but I was unable to walk at all before my op so I knew it would be so and may not be for you but I would do as he says if I were you. Gilly xx |

Hi Lois I am about 8 weeks post op. I use a gym ball for my exercises. I don't walk for as long as you in one go as I find it kicks my hamstrings off too much but doing roughly two walks a day doing 3 miles. it takes me about 35 mins to do both. I am on x2 75mg pregablin and x3 50mg diclofenac. I tried knocking it down to one but I was getting muscle tightness which was hampering my rehab so I just went back to two. Sounds like your doing well but I reckon you should try knocking down your doses and see how your body responds. Only you can tell how you are doing. I have to go back in 6 months and they stated x ray before hand Regards Carl |
