Well after 6 months of no symptoms after my ADR, im now getting some. Ive had no pain and no side effects I was back to 95% normal. I had adr at c5/6. Ive noticed that when I am lying down or in a deep chair my left arm can go numb and feel dead with pins & needles. I have to stand up and move my arm around to get the feeling back. Is this something I should worry about? Also my neck has started to click loudly when I push my head back. I do have a follow up in a few weeks but am not sure if either of these new symptoms are of any concern. Any advice appreciated. Cheers |

Can you think of anything you have done which might have aggravated the nerves? As you say you have got your check up in a couple of weeks and can get it looked at properly. |

My Thanks to Dr Clare Harris for this one from the FAQs 1) Get a cot with a drop side that drops completely to the floor 2)Use a high chair with a foot rest so the child can climb into it themseleves when big enough 3)Encourage the child to climb, then they can climb onto your lap for cuddle when needed. 4)Do lots of games at table hight eg gluing, drawing, letters, snap cards, cooking. 5) Explain to the child ie 'mummy can't pick that up at the moment because her back is sore' 6) Spend time doing the things you can do ie talking, reading books together, we make up lots of stories together. 7) Make life as fun with the child as you can. My 'helping hand' is a great for tickling with and even the dolls in the dolls house have one! 8) If you can, get a car that is a good height for putting children in and out of their car seats. I recommend the renaut scenic. 9)encourage the child to be independant as much as possible. As well as making life easier this can only be a good thing for their future development. 10) If other people offer to take them to do things you can't ie to the park, pushing them on bikes/trikes, daysout, try not to feel envious and be glad the child has the opportunity to do it. Become involved by asking them to tell you all about it when they get home. 11) Keep telling them you love them, that has to be the most important thing for a child 12) Remember you are their parent, no one can replace you. |

called my 24/7 spine nurse and spoke to her yesterday. Ive had ADR at C5/5 around 5-6 months ago. Its started to hurt and recently The pain has got worse, my neck is very sore and I am having problems pushing my head back, the cracking noise is still there. She said the disc may have moved, it feels like I have a band around my head (on the bottom of my head at the back) seeing my surgeon next thursday to see if it has moved. Whats the likely outcome if it has moved? im so upset, 5 months since the op I have been great up to now. Really had enough. My lower back is bad also and awaiting a discogram and to finidh it off im being made redundant, sorry for the rant |

So sorry to hear you are having such a bad time of it all, back and neck pain at the same time really is the pits. And then work worries on top - I really feel for you. Don't worry about the rant sometimes it feels better to get it off your chest. I was told by Mr Shackleford that it would take a hammer and chisel to move a replacement disc and that most people worry unnecessarily thinking they have moved though maybe there is a problem with another one. Must admit I fear this as the rest of my discs are 51 years old now. If it is another one maybe it will settle down in time. Hope things get better for you very soon. Gilly xx |
