Like the title says, surgery went ahead as planned. On the 16th of October I was wheeled down to theatre at about 12 mid-day, my lovely aneasthetist (who gave me a high-five the day before when he cam and visited me in my room - really cool dude!) injected me with some fentanyl which stung and prepared me, he injected me again and I slowly fell asleep. My surgery took 4 hours in total. Woke up in a lot of pain and they had to slide something under my back to Xray my chest to make sure my lungs hadn't collapsed. All was fine and I was in the intensive care unit for the night. Mum fed me some toast quite soon after the op which was great. Was on morphine pump then changed to Oxynorm tablets which I am still on which helps a lot. I had to have a 2 unit blood transfusion as my heamaglobin levels were as low as 7.0. I was up and about on the 3rd day when I was back in my room, having even a shower on my own! Considering I'd just been fused T2 down to L4 I was doing extremely well and though expected stay was 10 nights, I was only in for almost 5 days! I am still getting a lot of pain though am getting stronger each day. Yesterday I went to the local town and stayed out for longer than I could have before the op! ![]() I now have 2 (3 as I have one left sided from T11-L3) rods going down the best of my spine and loads of screws and some hooks. I just wanted to update you all and let you all know how it all went, very well indeed! Thanks, Love from Lyssie xxxx (I'll try and post an Xray of my back) |

Thanks hun, I'm okay, am still taking it easy and padding myself with plenty of cushions etc. Due to see Mr Tucker for my 6 week post op check up on the 29th of November. Self catheterising (I have a hypocontractile bladder) has been a bit tricky due to lessened flexibility with the fusion extension. But I am getting used to this I'm so pleased that I went through with the op, I wont get *too* head of myself but I have a good feeling about this! Love Lyssie xxx |

Hehe thanks Mark, It's odd to take a look at my Xray and just think "that! is in me!" It's all a bit too "hardcore" for me even! LOL Though I've seen the odd SIJ fusion instrumentation in pictures on Google and that's some pretty amazing stuff, the instrumentation they use! Just wow! So be prepared for the "hardcoreness" haha.
