Has anybody had an M6-L installed by Mr. Boeree?

I know he's worked on plenty of M6-C (Cervical) surgeries, but I'm actually looking into travelling to the U.K. for an M6-L (Lumbar) and I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with him and the M6-L.

I have an L4/L5 herniation and DDD and it seems to be the next and final step for me!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
2008 -Diagnosed with L4/L5 protrusion and DDD
2009 -Relapse of the L4/L5 protrusion. Met with Dr. Frank Cammisa, recommended ESI's and Physical Therapy. DID NOT DO ESI's
2009 -Spinal Disc Decompression with the DRX-9000. MRI showed absolutely no improvement. Still painful.
2010 -Stem Cell Injection into L4/5 from Regenexx followed by 2 Platelet Rich Plasma Injections. No improvement at all.
Late 2010 - Considering ADR. Looking for options.

Hi Mike,

Although not with Mr Boeree i do have an M6-L in the same place as yours is intended for.
Had no problems with it so far including going through the airport scanners (it doesnt set the detectors off).

Have a look at my post here to give you an idea of what to expect.

The only thing i can add to my original post is that dont give up on your physio excercises.

Do get in touch if you want to know any more.

2002 -2007 - Osteo/Physio/Chiro/Tens/Pain mgment
2008 - Osteo and pain management only
Feb 2009 - MRI (Mr David Harrison) - confirmed herniated L5/S1
Mar - July 2009 - Physio
July - Dec 2010 - Osteo & physio
April 2010 - Lumbar Epidural (Mr Nigel Mendoza)
May 2010 - Discogram (Mr David Harrison) - L5/S1 confirmed DDD
16th July 2010 - ADR L5/S1 (Mr David Harrison PMH Windsor)

Great story you have there! I'm glad your surgery was a success!

I feel very confident for the M6-L. My only concern is durability but it's not like I'm a football player or anything similar. I simply want to walk around, sit down and do some work, and enjoy life again..

I've tried just about everything out there, even experimental stuff like stem cells!

So you recommend that before the surgery I do core strengthening?

I have a phone consultation with Mr. Boeree next monday. I'll make sure I ask him all of this before I commit to surgery.

Thank you!

Yup deffo suggest you do core stability work especially if you have the time. It will help you to recover a lot quicker then without it.

A lot of your recovery depends on your body & its condition - so as long as you dont mind a bit of pain to get your strength up your body will recover sooner.

have you had any chiropractic treatments? If you have they will help you recognise some of the change your body will experience straight after the op. if you do recognise it, you will know what stretches you did post chiro treatment - use those same stretches to help you out of the muscular soreness.
This soreness is nothing to worry about its mostly skeletal re-alignment and posture correction.

Hi Mike and welcome to our forum.

I've no experience of Mr Boerre but I think the M6 looks a really good prosthesis and it will be interesting to see how it fares long term. Disc replacement is still evolving and new and "improved" designs can be difficult to keep up with but I like the fact that the M6 artificial nucleus allows compression and the annulus controls the range of motion. I have two lumbar ProDiscs and have gone on to develop facet arthrosis, which, may of course simply be a natural progress of disease, but I do wonder if the rotational movement permitted by the ProDiscs has put strain on the facets and accelerated the degeneration I have.

I reiterate ireman's advise about core exercises, it will make such a difference if your core stability muscles are strong. I know pre-op and in pain doing such exercises can be difficult but are well worth persevering with.

Good luck and keep us updated with your progress.

Best wishes

Lynda
May 2008 onwards - Lumbar facet injections - First post-op ones four years post surgery, have lost count of the number I've had since then but they do help. Pre-op they didn't make much difference- Mr Shackleford, Warrington

May 2006 - Craniotomy and resection frontal lobe brain tumour - The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery

Hi Mike,

Mirx here again :D .

Please let us know how the phone consultation with Nick Boeree goes.
Very inrterested as I am going to be seeing him about my L4/L5 treatment options in three weeks.
I am particularly interested what will his opinion be on durability and testing methods of the M6-L.

Good advise on core stability above. Have been doing mine pretty religuosly over the last three months in anticipation of an M6-L surgery.

All the best

Hello everyone.

The phone consultation with Mr. Boeree was wonderful. I got plenty of details on the surgery, the device, my diagnosis, etc.

It was such a good consultation that I've decided to go ahead with the surgery. I'm leaving October 31st for London. My surgery is November 3rd.

I will write up a new thread detailing everything about the trip/surgery, and i'll add pictures as well!
