Hi everyone It's now 7 weeks since surgery and things are not to bad. Neck still moving ok with less restriction then before. Walking still not much better then last post but apart from some nerve pain there is little pain from walking. Still have pain in neck, shoulders and arms and still worse on left. I'm still getting dizzy spells and have checked blood pressure and it is going very high during these spells, so will check it out with Mr Wadley on monday. Hope you are all as well as could be expected regards Tony |

Hi all I saw Mr Wadley this morning and he is happy with progress so far. He said that because of the seriousness of my condition recovery will be very slow and not sure how much better I will get. As for dizzyness and blood pressure he said I should go back to my GP as its not related to my neck. He is also writing to my GP about breakthrough pain medication for the pain in my left arm that keeps flaring up. I have another appointment to see him on 8th November when we will be able to tell better what the end result is likly to be. Kind regards Tony |

Let us know what the GP thinks and how you get on with the new medication. |

Hope you get some relief from new medication Tony, I was told to keep on with the medication to keep myself mobile rather than try and knock down the painkillers and end up struggling to keep the recovery going. It is a very long process as I am still on more painkillers than I would like to be by now but it seems to be the only way for a more or less 'normal' life. Good luck for the next stages of your recovery. Gilly x |

Thanks Alison and Gilly for your replies. I should have added that he is also asking my GP to arrange physio. Not sure about that as I have heard alot of bad reports about it from others with spine problems, any thoughts anyone? Regards Tony |

I've always got on very well with any physio but as an ex athlete I like the training challenge. I have had to be very insistent that they find out what to do for me not just some generic spine rehab. It has taken a while at the start of my time with a new physio for them to understand my specific issues. |

Saw my GP today he is going to wait for letter from Mr Wadley before sorting out physio or breakthrough med for my arm. As far as the dizzy spells and blood pressure are concerned, although blood pressure is a bit high its not enough to worry about as such. He thinks its all related and has put me on a course of Betahistine Dihydrochloride as it may be Vertigo problems, I have to see him again in 3 weeks to see how I get on with it. Take care all Tony |

Hope they manage to get to the bottom of it very soon for you Tony. Vertigo sounds like a very viable explanation. Gilly x |

Hi Gilly It does seem that Cervical Spondylosis and Vertigo go hand in hand, Iv'e come across so many others with the same problem. Will see how medication goes and keep you informed. Regards Tony |

Hi Everyone It's now 2 months since surgery and things are still ok. My walking has got to the point that I can keep gong for about 30mins before needing a break, still slow and using stick but little pain. Neck movement still has it's limitations but pain not so bad most of the time. Still pain in shoulders and middle of shoulder blades but bearable. Pain in arms and hands bearable except left arm that is still flaring up, waiting to be prescribed something for it. When I saw Mr Wadley last week he explained everything to my wife and I, so we are under no illusions as to the future. He said again that the surgery was only aimed at stopping the myelopathy and hopefully give me back some mobility, he is happy that they achieved their aim. However chances are I wont improve much further but I expected that to be the case, I see him again in Nov and will know better then. I myself am happy with the outcome because anything was going to be better then the way I was before surgery and importently it has stopped me from being in a wheelchair [for now anyway]. The vertigo tablets seem to be working, so it looks like my GP was right [he is very good and seldom wrong]. I will update monthly from now unless something importent happens. Take care all Tony |

Hi all It's now 3 months since surgery, nothing has really changed in the last month. It seems everything has come to a standstill but after seeing Mr Wadley last month and what he said i'm not surprised. Pain levels tolarable GP has taken me off Amitriptyline on Mr Wadley's advice and put me on Pregabalin to ease the left arm pain as well as other nerve pain. It doe's appear to be controlling the flare ups in my left arm as they are not as bad as they were. I still have restrictions in neck movement and legs sarting to play up again affecting my walking. On top of that I fell down stairs this morning hitting my back in the middle of the spine and landing face down in the halway. Fortunatly my stepson heard me fall and helped to get me up as I couldn't do it on my own, I had visions of laying there till my wife got home from shopping. Hope everyone is doing as well as they can, will update again next month. All the best Tony |

Just a quick update from yesterday and the fall. Woke up this morning very sore and stiff but I don't think iv'e done any damage. My back, and shoulders have been tender to the touch all day and it hurts if I move wrong. Hopefully this will wear off over next couple of days, if not may need a trip to my GP. Regards Tony |

Thanks Lynda I recovered from the fall within a couple of days, no lasting damage. I am as careful as I can be on stairs, I just lost my footing and down I went. Regards Tony |
