Sounds like you are doing very well Tony

Overall I am still pleased that I had the surgery done even if this turns out to be as good as it gets, it is so much better then before surgery.
It is good to hear the surgery has improved your condition, and there is still time for further progress and as you say, nerves can take a long time to recover.

Wishing you continued improvement

Lynda

Hi Lynda
Yes it does look like the improvement is going well, I wasn't expecting instant recovery as I know this takes time. Hopefully over the next few months I will be able to report further progress.

Take care Tony

Hi Everyone
I'm of to Norfolk tomorrow for a long weekend of R&R, so I thought I would update you today. It is now 5 weeks since surgery and there does not appear to be any improvement since I last posted, except a bit more movement in my neck. Walking and pain levels remain the same, I don't know why as I know i'm not over doing things. Hopefully things will start to improve again over the next few weeks. Take care everyone and have a good weekend.

Regards Tony

Hi Tony

Recovery from surgery isn't often a linear process, sometimes there's a plateau or even backward step or two, even when being sensible and not over-doing things. I hope you will see further progress with more time.

Enjoy your long weekend in Norfolk

Lynda

Hi Everyone
I had a very relaxing break in Norfolk last weekend and feel more refreshed this week for it. Anyway it is now 6 weeks since surgery and recovery seems to be back on course. My speed of walking has not improved but the distance I can walk without stopping has, i'm ok for about 20 to 30mins now. No pain in legs apart from some nerve pain now and then so thats good, pain in neck, shoulders and arms still persistant, mainly on the left side. I can move my right arm about with little pain but not the left but more movement in my neck now. Solved sleeping problems so I only need the one cervical pillow, by getting a memory foam topper for the bed, wished I had tried it earlier it's great. Have now got meds down to 250mgs Tramadol and 50mgs Ametriptyline a day. Seeing Mr Wadley on the 9th Aug so will see what he has to say about my recovery and other disc problems. Hope you are all doing well and in not to much pain.
Regards Tony

Thats good that you have more movement than before surgery, Tony, and that's the best way to take it slow and steady. I know since my recovery I have worried with the slightest change if I am going backwards way but things have always seemed to level out in the end. Thinking of getting a memory topper myself as I do ache so much in the mornings and wonder if it is my mattress so good to hear that they work.
All the best for your recovery.

Hi Gilly
Don't just think about getting one, get it. I can't reccomend getting one enough, as I said I wish I had got one alot earlier.
As you said recovery can be back and forth so I just take it one day at a time. Hope you are doing ok.

I second the recommendation, I have one at my dad's place for when i stay there and it is really good. i have a reflex foam mattress at home which is the best for me but for a good quick fix for any mattress then the memory foam is worth a go.

 I too have a topper at the moment, and it does make a difference I struggle to pull myself out of my moulded shape in the mornings so Keith has to help me, and when you first get them you can get quite hot until you get used to it. when I next purchase a mattress I will go for a full one. hope all are well, and progress is noticable.

Hi All
Can anyone advise on this. When I bend or squat down or get up from sitting, I feel dizzy/lightheaded. This has got worse over this last week and yesterday it made me feel quite ill. Is this normal after cervical surgery, as i'm sure it's not the medication as i'm quite used to it and don't really get side effects.

Hi Tony,
this sounds like a blood pressure problem, I would go and get your blood pressure checked. It could be high or it could be low but it's a typical symptom.
Best,
Alastair :D

Thanks Alastair
You could be right as my blood pressure did go very high when in hospital but had settled by the time I came out. It is not a problem I have ever suffered in the past, so I was getting quite worried about it. My wife has a blood pressure machine at home so will check it. Seeing Mr Wadley next monday so will check with him.

Regards Tony
