Lynette, those images are so very interesting! What technology! Your three-D CT images are so clear.....those staples and screws are almost unbelievable. The Dynesys screws through the vertebrae are now removed? Those staples in the second picture look barbaric...the top one in L4/5 looks very precarious...no wonder it is too dangerous to attempt to remove them; with them being so close to the aorta and vena cave, I can see why. They are with you forever. What a complex but fascinating case you are. Certainly unique! So that's 2 huge staples, 2 lots of Japanese fibreglass stuff, 1 cage, 2 long rods and 10 screws in situ and you had four screws and the Dynesys spacers and cords removed as well as the decompression at L2/3!!! What a major procedure you've had. That's some surgery! I bet you feel on top of the world to be recovering as well as you are. Thanks for sharing.

Anytime Lynda....always a pleasure never a chore!! Seriously though it's a very scary scenario and I'm still coming to terms with what was done to me without explanation. Wish I knew of others who've got a similar situation but from what I was told yesterday it's highly unlikely as the 1995 op was a very unusual procedure. Can't find anything on the web about migrated lumbar hardware either so all I can hope for is that it'll stay put?

Wow Lynette !!!! You have certainly been 'fixed' there. What a lot you have been through and thanks so much for sharing your very amazing xrays and scans. Hope you continue to do well as you must have suffered so much. No wonder you find it hard to take in how much surgery has been carried out as it is so unique and complex.Keep doing well, Lynette. Gilly xx |

Thanks Gilly I was amazed myself when I first saw the 3D pictures, had no idea such images were available. When I saw Mr Meyer last Friday he pointed out the difference between my pre and post op spine X-rays because all the curvatures have gone. Wish I'd taken a picture of that. It said it all. Saw my side view in Sainsbury's window this morning when my daughter 'took me out'..... me trotting along looking like Tubby Bear. Still quite a bit of swelling around my middle - can't do my trousers up  and my behind sticks out due to the lumbar stiffness and I said to my daughter 'Oh my God what do I look like'! She said she hadn't noticed.......how kind!!!! Well I had 2 ring doughnuts when I got back home and boy did I feel better

You do make me chuckle Lynette, you've a great sense of humour. I've looked at your images several times, I'm fascinated by them. The wonders of medical science. Hope you're doing okay. From Jemina Puddleduck to Tubby Bear! Don't worry you'll loose that girth with time I'm sure. Lynda |

Saw Mr Lam at my second follow up yesterday at Guys and lumbar spine looking good. Mr Lam pointed out the difference between my pre and post op x-rays and commented that it's the first time for years I've had stability in my spine.....don't I know it!! Having whole spine MRI on August 10th so my cervical spine can be checked out, the spinal cord is 'nipped' there and I have some symptoms which concur with the pathology. 3 level cervical surgery was planned before the lumbar revision so this isn't news. I will see Mr Lam again for the next review on September 10th. But all in all considering the huge revision I've had my recovery has been fast and I'm amazed I'm not experiencing any major post-op nerve pains, only twinges and aching when I've been on my feet too long. Hats off to Khai Lam, I've been very fortunate to have had this revision surgery carried out by a genius.
