Yep, I take Arcoxia, just as a kind of belt and braces approach to painkillers, although that is something the pain clinic at Guys and St Thomas's are not happy with, they would like to see me reduce my medication. As if I wouldn't like to as well!! |

I've got my denervation this coming Friday. Very worried about it given Karen's awful experience, my consultant says it's not too painful but I don't believe him....However given my nerve pain crisis it is less risky than more surgery so I feel I must try it first and see if it has any effect. I am doing so much better on Pregabalin than Gabapentin, more alert and my feet and ankles are less painful. Am thankful for small gains! |

Hope all goes well for you on friday. I use simple positive thinking when going for something new if I have heard bad reports about it. I simply look at it this way, if there is a chance it will help then its worth a try rather then not go for it and spend time thinking WHAT IF. All the best Tony |

Good luck for Friday. I'm sorry my experience has given you cause for concern but every body is different. I'm not sure that denervation is the same as Lumbar Facet joint Ablation with RF or just similar? It IS worth trying all non surgical approaches first and maybe this will give you some relief. Hi Mrs R , I'm hoping that you're going to have a good experience and the outcome, some people it's just "a breeze" and it's not all that big a surgery anyway. I know the psychological thing of it is difficult, especially if you've not had previous experience of it. Anyway good luck and I hope it works itself out okay Best, Alastair

Wishing you all the best with your nerve ablations. As other people have said individuals have different experiences of identical procedures. It's several years ago now & the procedure may have changed a little but I had numerous lumbar facet nerve ablations around 1999-2001. I had mild sedation & hardly knew I'd had much done during the procedure. I was moderately sore/tender for a week or so afterwards. I hope your experience is a positive one. It's definitely worth a shot as it's a minor procedure compared to an operation. I'm glad that the Pregabalin is an improvement to your med regime - it's a step in the right direction. xx |

Thank you for all these encouraging replies. It's true that everyone is different and I'll never know unless I try it out. Glad to hear about your experience Ruth. They have said I can have "light sedation" but I have to be able to hold a conversation with them. I think being conscious is the part I am worried about, being anaesthetised for an operation makes that seem more bearable even though it's a much bigger deal in the end. Anyway, I shall try to stop worrying about it in advance and I will report back how it goes x |

Good Luck for tomorrow and hope that the experience is not too uncomfortable. I also find Pregablin a really good help. I would have been going 'bananas' without it after the op, it brought such a relief. Thinking of you Gilly xx |

Be thinking of you tomorrow, the light sedation I had for my recent discogram made it feel like I wasn't really there, I remember talking but not what I said. I'm sure you will be fine. |

Hope today goes well Mrs R and that it isn't too uncomfortable an experience, hopefully it will provide you with significant relief for a long time. Best wishes Lynda |

Thanks Carole! Hi everyone, just a very quick one as cannot sit at the PC for long. Will update properly another time. Just to say the procedure went fine, I had the tiniest drop of sedation which relaxed me, and it was really no more uncomfortable than the facet joint injections were. I really am inpressed with my pain doctor. Anyhow the day after procedure was pretty painful and been told could take 2 or 3 weeks for it to take full effect, if it is going to. I have felt really quite good though today (well good for me that is!) Will let you know more another day. Thanks so much for all your thoughts and good wishes. |
