Going to see a surgeon?

If you're going to go and see a surgeon and discuss your situation, a good idea is to take some notes with preplanned questions on them. If you haven't got the greatest memory in the world, and get flustered at medical meetings, then do take a friend with you who will be more composed than you at the time.

One of the most useful questions to us here is how many ADR the surgeon has done and what is his success ratio?

If you have access to your x-rays, make sure that you have got your x-rays with you, there is nothing more frustrating than having no evidence to support your request for surgery and also for your surgeon, to establish that it is necessary for you to have surgery.

Do remember that the least invasive things are the best things to do first. ADR is a huge surgery and a dangerous one.

Please everyone ALWAYS make sure you have had discography prior to ADR. Its ESSENTIAL to have evidence of the treatment that needs to be done.

NO GUESSING with this surgery

Many thanks Alastair. Do you know how many ADR operations is considered to be very experienced? What is a good success ratio? Are success ratios for surgeons generally available? I need to have ADR at one level and want to find a very experienced surgeon with a good success rate in the UK. Any suggestions? I might consider going abroad if it meant a much better success rate, but do you know how much it would cost?

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete,
I would say 100 ADR surgeries is good, read my story and don`t be in so much of a hurry maybe?

This is VERY major surgery -- - have you tried all the physio and things we know nothing about you or previous treatments?
Best
