Canon/Original: original Codename: Tempero Real Name: Raynauldo James Nickname: Ray to a few, Mr. James to the rest. Age: 38 Gender: male Appearance: Mr. James stands right at 6 feet with a thin frame. Although thin, his muscles are very toned and defined. His dark brown hair is always kept at a medium length and has a natural sort of wave to it. Hazel eyes. There are no distinct identifying marks, no tattoos, or anything else. Nothing but his smug, rarely fading grin of a smile. Clothing: Though he still does make use of his extensive collection of expensively tailored suits, Mr. James has toned the look down a bit. Around the base, he could be seen in more of a casual style, although his casual is still a bit dressy. Slacks and shirts, some silk, some cotton, and rolled up sleeves, maybe an extra button undone for the sake of comfort every now and again. But when out and about, if he isn't wearing one of Swagger's disguises, he is wearing his battle outfit, playing the part of Tempero, the name he had given to the darker side of his persona. His Tempero uniform is just that--a uniform. Once upon a time, he was seen as a contrasting figure of pure, flowing white among the blazing toil and destruction he had created, but as of lately, Tempero has been much darker. All black, to be precise, lined in more black, but of a glossier type of material; something similar to satin or silk. To complete the look of an evil overlord, he now wears a hooded cloak, held about his shoulders by a silver chain, adorned with an SX logo at either end. And his true visual trademark is his mask. The mask covers the front of his face, and is virtually featureless; no holes, no facial feature contours other than a vertical, convex crease that divides it in half. It is composed of a material that is mirrored on one side and see-through on the other, making it impossible to see his face through it without obstructing his own field of vision. It is unknown how he is able to breath properly with such a mask, but one could safely assume that his powers has something to do with it. Powers: Two-Way Telepathy Tempero once had very limited telepathy, even after years of training. There was a mental block in place. After long nights of driving himself to the brink of insanity with the notes and clues left behind by his father and his father's fathers, he has finally broken that mental barrier. He is now capable of two-way telepathy. On a low level, he is able to project his thoughts toward another's mind and also to hear the thoughts of others. At a high level, he can push emotions and feelings toward people's minds. It is totally up to the individual whether or not they hear his mind's voice, and their ability to deny his mental advances rests purely on their own level of mental fortitude. For instance, while Professor X would be able to completely ignore him mentally, Cyclops, who was trained against psychic things by Prof. X, would still hear him, but would be able to deny him as long as his concentration is there. Someone without training, on the other hand, would easily mistake his mental pushes as their own mind if he wishes it to be so. Tempering Mr. James' mental energy can be manifested into the physical with concentration. The properties of this energy are unlike those of any other form of energy. When it seeps into a surface, it intertwines itself within the atoms of the surface. Then, as natural as flexing a muscle, Mr. James can reshape the effected area. This energy is not visible to the naked eye. Those who are psychics can see the energy. Trained psychics can easily see it, while the untrained and underdeveloped would have to devote some concentration and focus to see it. The size of the area, the density of the substance, and the degree of concentration all determine how successful an attempt at reshaping matter will be. It all also determines how long it would take. Although he is known to make things into weapons for the most part, being skilled in so many different ones, thanks to Walter, he can make abstract shapes, such as turning a wooden floor into a wall of wood as high as he is tall, or causing a spike of concrete to suddenly stick up from under an opponent standing on a sidewalk. He has been known to spread his mental energy throughout the battlefield at strategic locations, using it at opportune moments to tip the scales in his favor. His tempered objects are permanent, as in they never revert back to what they were before, but a hastily made shield, for example, would break after a few good uses, where one that he concentrated on would be sturdy enough to last him for the length of a battle. His degree of concentration determines how solid or how intricate his creations are. At his best, he has been known to solidify the air, making it as hard as steel, but at this extreme he cannot hold it for more than a second or two. He can also make a wooden weapon be as hard as a metal one, for example. He won't be able to use this power on people's personal possessions, like weapons, clothing, or body parts. Its because of the person's own will to own those things. It conflicts with his flow of mental energy... which could point to a clever way of disabling his use of this technique if one were to think hard enough. Like most any other mutant's powers, overuse of his abilities would bring about a strain. If he reaches too far with his mental energy or tries to effect too much of a substance at once, he would experience headaches, which could range from barely a bother to crippling pain. Incredible foresight While it is not exactly considered to be precognition, Mr. James could easily pass as a precog with his extensive ability to plan for the most precise, insignificant details. His mind is so complicated that it is able to branch off into several different directions, devoting complete and detailed thoughts to each branch along the way. He can either think of several things at once, like "mental multi-tasking", or he can focus his thoughts down a linear path that reaches far into the possible future. After a few days of mapping out his thoughts, he can form a very accurate map of the possible future. Because of this, there is very little that catches him off guard and there is very little he is unprepared for. It is the sole reason why he is always able to take advantage of even the most dire of situations. It must be noted that his predictions are not destined to happen exactly as he thinks they will (hence the fact that he is not officially a precog). A bonus of this ability of foresight is the fact that his mind is so complicated that anyone who gets past his mental defenses often finds themselves lost within the confusing branches and paths of his thoughts. Decoding his mind would be akin to unraveling several intertwined balls of string... in the dark. Of course, a powerful psychic could brute-force their way through the seemingly knotted twists and turns of his mind's many paths, but he often keeps a powerful psychic of his own near him when he expects such a thing to happen. Abilities: His combat skills go hand and hand with his powers. Physically, he is above average, but not above human standards. His training has enabled him to combine agility and speed, making it much easier for him to strike at vital points from awkward positions. He also has a knowledge of pressure points, but not an extensive one as to perform some kind of "death touch" move or anything of the sort. Also, Mr. James is very skilled with light to medium weighted weapons, though he does have experience with a wide range of weaponry, varying greatly in weight, shape, etc. Weaknesses: Though his psychic skills have greatly increased, he still has much training ahead of him in terms of mental defenses. In a sense, his own audacity is a weakness of his. He constantly probes the minds of those who are much more mentally strong than he is, broadcasting the fact that his mental defenses are insignificant when faced with retaliation from stronger mental opponents. Personality: Raynauldo has always been a mature person, even when he was young, making him seem much older. His hair often pushed the assumption. With any matter at hand he would try his best to make use of perfect timing, either waiting patiently or acting right away. When working with others, he does his best to make the consequenses known, in hopes of encouraging good judgement in his teammates. He also wouldn't hesitate to leave an injured of fallen comrade if helping them would be too costly. Most of the times, he is strict on dicipline and makes it a point that orders are given to be followed unless the negative consequences out weigh the positive. He is a very serious man at times, but a sense of humor would surface at unpredictable times during his periods of relaxation. Throughout all his seriousness he rarely ever shouts to get his point across, out loud, that is. Due to his drive to achieve the best possible results in any situation, his decisions may seem harsh and ruthless, but those two words are nothing but collections of letters put together to prevent one from reaching a goal, he figures. Mr. James has two passions in his life, which are music and collecting rare weapons. While it is obvious that his extensive collection can aid him in battle, his love of music also does the same. His unique fighting style makes use of various musical terms that describe his actions. History: *warning, this may be a bit long...* Not too long after he was born, Raynauldo's parents divorced. His mother decided to bail out of the marriage on the grounds that his father was always too busy to spend time with them. The man would constantly be away on business for days at a time, sometimes even a month or so, but he would always come back with his pockets substantially fatter. What more could a family want? he would think, oblivious to the fact that money wasn't the supreme happiness. When the divorce case was over, Raynauldo's father won custody of him, which was the most unlikely results that anyone could imagine. Needless to say, he had a certain pull on the case behind the scenes. His father was always one to get just what he wanted, no matter what the cost was for others. The reason he wanted custody was simple. Raynauldo's father was the only male sibling, so it was up to him to make sure the Jones legacy was passed down. Since Raynauldo was his only son, he wanted to make sure to have him grow up in a way that would make the Jones family proud. Although his father was an illegal arms dealer, helping which ever side showed the most money, he also had a private collection of other weapons, such as oddly shaped knives, short spears with forking, blades, and much more. The collection built as he travelled the world on business. During his travels, of course he took Raynauldo, teaching him at a very young age how to examine situations and opt for the best results while avoiding the worst of consequences. Although their lives never stayed in one place for more than a month, Raynauldo's father had brought out a love of music in him. He mainly played the piano, taking the international language of music to the different countries to learn more and more. While his father would be out on business, he would be left in the hands of their butler Walter, fostering his growing knowlege of many different fighting styles. Walter had been a part of his life for as long as he could remember, and thanks to him, his father's business had excelled far beyond the rate at which he had calculated. Aside from being a general butler, Walter had been employed to watch over Raynauldo, the James Family's only living heir, so-to-speak. It was a on trip to Russia when Raynauldo's mental abilities came about. He was about 11 years old when he began projecting his thoughts into the heads of others. It started out as being done by mistake while throwing the occassional pre-teen fit that everybody has thrown at least once in their life. His father could hear every one of his angry thoughts as clear as his regular voice, but he noticed that his mouth wasn't moving. The realization that his son was a mutant shocked him. He only had an outside look on the life of an average mutant in the world, so his guess as to exactly what one would really have to go through was grim. His business endevors had come to almost a complete halt. Traveling back to the U.S., he devoted most of his time to being with his son, doing all he could to teach him to keep his powers under control and not raise any suspicion. At this point, there were no more personal trainers. His father took up the duty of keeping him in shape, sparring with him from time to time. An 11 year old would normally be no match for a mountain of a man such as Raynauldo's father, but as his full mutant abilities surfaced the score was evened. After a few years of helping him to develop his powers, his father began to feel the need to continue his business. There were alot of clients still contacting him, and he hated passing up opportunity. Too many deals had been missed, so it was time to go back to his work. At 15 years old, Raynauldo was the spitting image of his father, only a smaller version of him with a slightly more pointed nose. Their gray eyes carried the same cold and serious look, especially when they were out on business together. Making use of his one-way mental communication abilities, so many deals were made so much more efficiently, and when things took a turn for the worst, a speedy escape with most of the goods still intact was easy, thanks to his tempering abilities. Men don't live forever, and Raynauldo's father knew it. He still had some angry and cranky clients, some of which had a price on his head. There was even a price on Ray's head himself. His father was killed by one of these factions that had ill will toward the father/son business combo, leaving all responsibilities in the hands of Raynauldo. With so much responsibility put in his hands, he did the most sensible thing he could think of. He got rid of everything and started over on his own. After one of the biggest black market auctions, every bit of their stock was sold, leaving him among the wealthiest of the black market tyrants... at just 17 years old. He had a private empire and an inherited collection of rare and unusual weapons. When he ventured out to start his own line of business, it was much different than illegal arms dealing. He started a sort of employment agency for mercenaries. Among those he employed were humans and some of the more dangerous and not-so-well-known mutants, being hired by just about every hidden faction imaginable. Not too long after he began his own ventures he came in contact with the SX. Their way of life suited him just fine. Immediately, he merged his own business with them, keeping his distance to avoid any kind of speculation. For years, he remained a hidden ace in the SX's deck, supplying them with just about whatever they needed, from special equipment to temp-to-hire mercenaries. Some of the higher-ups in the SX know of him, but only a select few have actually seen him. If he hadn't felt a sudden urge to prepare for something big (see post in Egypt) he would still be in a shadowed partnership with the SX, but now is his time to make his presence known. Hun did you look at the powers list, there are a few that aren't allowed for some reason or anotherr and Telepaths and such are on it |
