Ororo, after her divorce from T'Challa, had taken quite a bit of time for herself. She had always been so certain of her place in the world, on the X-men, as Queen of Wakanda, and for her husband to simply have said the words and granted her the divorce had been something of a shock. She had stayed away from Graymalkin for some time, yet still felt she couldn't dodge going back forever. Even the Avengers, where she might have gone instead, had a stronger bond with T'Challa than with her, so they were out as well.

So she had finally come back to New York, for now. She knew it far better than she did San Francisco, even if there were more heroes in town that she would have happily avoided. But in a city so large, it was far easier to lay low, and say hello to some friends. Her celebrity as an X-woman and the former Queen of Wakanda, along with her distinctive hair, made it difficult to hide her identity. So rather than try, she took to the skies, fully costumed, wind carrying her.

At eight months old little Luke was becoming more and more of a handful and the fact he was crawling didn’t make it any easier. Luke hadn’t been liking being put into his stroller or his car seat or anything that would confine his movement unless he was eating but he barely tolerated that.

Currently he was in his stoller starting to make a fuss during an outdoor journey. The mistress of metals was getting out often as a message was sent to her family to leave her alone. They seemed to have gotten it.

“We’re almost there Luke, just a lil further.” Her voice was calm as she continued pushing the stroller along. It was at that moment that a shadow passed over and looking up Dia spotted a familiar figure. She wasn’t sure if shouting would work but it seemed to be the only option she could think of that shouldn’t startle the weather goddess. “Ororo!”

Much had changed in Dia’s life since Storm left to be with her husband in Wakanda, the main one was that she had gotten married and had a kid. Though if Storm had visited Graymalkin since Dia left then the white haired mutant could have run into Face and found out about their marriage and son.

Storm heard her name called, not for the first time, but typically, the onlookers called her Storm. This time, she heard 'Ororo', and so she looked down and then smiled. Even though she hadn't recognized the voice, she recognized its owner's coloring. Letting the wind die down gradually, she lowered her altitude and landed elegantly in front of Dia.

Who was pushing a stroller.

The smile on her face was genuine, and she hugged her old teammate. "Dia! It's good to see you!" her eyes landed again on the stroller, an unspoken question for her friend. "I had heard you retired. I guess I can see why." Few enough of them had that chance at real happiness, and she was only happy for Dia. Ororo had taken her shot at it, with T'Challa, even if it hadn't worked out in the end.

She crouched so that she was eye to eye with the stroller's occupant, and smiled with her eyes very wide. "So who's this little man?" Glancing back up, she asked Dia another question. "And who's the lucky guy?"

The ashen female warmly accepted the hug and returned it as well. “It’s been far to long ‘Ro. How are you doing?” There were other questions as well but one at a time for Dia knew alll too well how overwhelming multiple questions could be.

A light laugh escaped from charcoal colored lips, “yeah but if the X-Men ever need me they know I’d be there in a heartbeat but I know they’ve got things covered and since the move there hasn’t been as many attack but its still early.” Though technically it had been a couple of years since the move from what she had heard through the ‘grapevine’ was that there had only been two attacks.

“This bundle of fuss is Luke, Luke Goldman.” Sighing heavily she shook her head as she reached into the stroller and freed the little man. He would be alright for a moment in her arms. “As you probably guessed Facedancer stole my heart, married me and we were both surprised at the arrival of Luke.” Neither of them thought it was possible but Luke was theirs, alive and healthy and a mutant though what type evaded them so far.

It was amazing what tedium superheroing could generate when you had SHIELD backing you. There was paperwork for missions like running off to the Moon, or fighting the various other supernatural threats around the world; requisition forms for ammunition and tools, including supernatural tools (he'd never considered needing to requisition a rhododendron, but he now had done so, because of various beasts and Wiccan rituals - he could have just gone and gotten it from a florist faster); and more internal esoterica than he cared to regularly consider.

And this burden, they gave to a man with a photographic memory.

Still, he'd taken an early day (they'd call if there was an issue), and was now headed toward where Dia and Luke would be, holding 2 cups of coffee (single-origin Kilimanjaro Valley fair trade, of course - it both tasted good and he could believe he was doing even some remote good for Storm's family), and a small package of baked goods for them. So walking into the park, he was in a remarkably good mood and hoping that everything stayed along that line.

So when he saw Dia, standing with Ororo, he considered how to approach. Settling on 'like a damn adult', he walked up and kissed Dia on the cheek, gesturing with the coffee and the bag. "Hello, love. Hope you don't mind the intrusion, I'm on-call for the rest of the day. Flutter's off doing... some kind of magic, and I much prefer the idea of being with you to just waiting for that to turn into an explosion."

He looked down at Luke and smiled, extending a third hand to touch his son's tiny hand. For some reason, he always found babies fascinating. His own was no exception, especially when he considered how much terror he truly felt over the idea of his son being hurt. Or leaving the world a worse place for him.

He looked over at Ororo, unable to smile because he knew what had brought her here. She was one of very few people who'd ever seen him cry. She was the one who'd been there when the Professor died. She was the one who had saved him from Krakoa. And she'd covered his butt many more times, too. His voice was soft. "I heard about what happened through the espionage grapevine. I'm sorry."

He held back his anger at T'Challa - the question waiting to burst forth was simple; did she want him to ensure that the mantle of Black Panther pass to the next eligible heir? He thought nothing of killing for her, of reminding an Avenger what he really was - only human. And, of course, reminding him that hurting a woman came with consequences from the family who truly loved her. Wakanda was a prickly enough subject for SHIELD that he was fairly sure he could emerge from it with his career intact. He'd never hear the end of it from Scott though - 'this is not how X-Men act' - he could hear the spiel in his head already. But this was her battle to fight. He'd stand by her unhesitatingly if she chose to fight it, but it was her battle in the end. Certainly though, the next time he heard about an Avenger in danger requesting SHIELD backup, if it was Black Panther, he'd find something higher-priority. Probably requisition paperwork for paperclips.

"Oh, not too bad so far. Just...trying to stay above it all." It was bad enough for celebrities when they divorced; for the King and former Queen of Wakanda, even several months removed from their announcement, it was non-stop. The fact that she could fly away and literally rain their parade was the only thing keeping the paparazzi at bay.

She did a doubletake as Dia told her the boy's last name. "Goldman? You and Facedancer?" If the X-men had known, Ororo had missed it entirely, pre-occupied with her duties in Wakanda. She had yet to work her way through the backlog of emails, messages and other communications she really needed to get to, at some point. "And married too?" How things had changed for her friends.

"Is Luke...?" She hated asking the question, but wondered at what Facedancer would think having a non-mutant child.

And just then, the aforementioned mutant showed up. "Hello, Edwin," she smiled warmly at him. Unwilling to linger in the past the same way he did, or to hold a grudge, she waved away that sound in his voice. "Things change. Promises...end. The only shock was how quickly it was all over." She had little desire to delve deeply into her reasons over their divorce, and no intention to do so in public at all.

"I take it the three of you live nearby?"

The surprise in Storm’s voice was something that Dia honestly expected. The only one that knew about the two was Flutter. Since the couple hitched the ashen female was sure that Face was busy telling people, especially exes of Dia. As for the metal manipulator herself, she had been too busy raising the baby to get around to telling people and going anywhere when she was pregnant was out of the question. Now that Luke was older she was able to travel and with mattters regarding her family being settled Dia could move about freely.

Dia nodded, “yes. He is though the full scope of his ability or abilities is still a mystery, he is just a baby so even if he hadn’t shown yet there wouldn’t have been reason to think he’s human until he was quite a bit older.”

It would seem that just by mentioning Face he was summoned. Dia smiled at the kiss, “mmm. No complaints from me.” The statement was made while her eyes looked at the bag as her stomach suddenly rumblued over the possibility of food which was followed by a darkening of her cheeks and a quick apology.

“Yeah, it’s a lovely little apartment. Would you like to come over?” Then Dia closed the space between Storm and herself with a broad grin. Leaning towards the storm goddess’ ear, “or I can leave Luke with Edwin while we have some woman to woman time.”

Edwin nodded at her, his voice as calm and even as he could manage. He was sure both of them would recognize the rage he felt at someone hurting his sister so deeply. Frankly, someone lying to her about something so important had Edwin angered more than he'd really care to admit. Then again, he didn't like admitting how angry he got in general. At least this was something he probably wasn't alone in his anger about.

Still, there was little he could do to really conceal his feelings from these two. His wife and his sister, he was sure they both realized just how infuriated he was at Black Panther; and how frustrated he was that he believed he shouldn't get directly and violently involved in Storm's personal troubles. That didn't stop him from being shamelessly rude to the man in the future, though. He knew the tone in her voice - she didn't want to talk about it. And this wasn't the place for it, anyway. "Promises from flatscans end, maybe."

He smiled and kissed Dia again on the cheek, sighing and trying to stop himself from fixating on the negative. It was a nice day out, his wife and child were with him, Ororo was back in New York, and Flutter's magic hadn't caused any explosions yet. All of these things were good. That and the fact that it was a slow enough day he could take time off.

He nodded at Ororo's question, gently lifting Luke from the carriage with a smile at Dia. He had en idea what the woman's next thought would be, and while he would discuss it with Dia; he was fairly certain that the woman would not allow their sister to be out on the street when there was a pretty nice building she could be living in - with them. Heck, having one of Luke's 'aunts' around wouldn't be a bad thing either if the two of them wanted to do something without him for a few hours. "We do indeed. Do you vaguely remember the building I bought when Warren was absolutely convinced that the New York real estate market was going to crash? It was one of the things I held onto during my little 'retirement'; kept up a decent income. Now we live there; I've converted two of the floors into a single duplex condo. Basement's now a gym, too. Not up to the Danger Room's standard, but... good enough, I think."

He looked between them, putting down the bakery bag on top of the stroller where any of them could grab from it, then shifting back to only having two arms - one with Luke and one with his coffee. He smirked at Ororo, about to make an abominably bad joke to try and lighten his own mood (and hopefully hers). "If I weren't holding my son, I'd be afraid of being hit with a lightning bolt over this, but - please tell me you're not planning on going back to the mohawk?"

Ororo wondered if they were going to have Luke tested at Graymalkin, but if so, why were they on the East Coast still? Likely Edwin. He was a creature of New York, just as she belonged, ultimately, to Cairo. She made friendly faces at their son, while carrying on the conversation. "Hoping one way or the other? A mini metal manipulator or mini metamorph?"

She didn't exactly avert her eyes at Dia and Face's affection, but it made the loss of what she and T'Challa had feel all the more keen. Would their child have been a mutant? A boy or a girl? Favored one of them in looks, or been a blend of them? She clamped down on those thoughts, hard, shoving them away, grateful that neither of her friends and former teammates was a telepath.

"Maybe later? I still need to get a room..." It wasn't the money, and Dia and Face would know that. But she didn't want to be alone, and nor did she want to be surrounded by others. Face and Dia, both had been on the X-men, and both had gone on to other things, 'Ro had a feeling they might understand a little more than the X-men. "Yes, I think I'd like that," she said, in response to Dia's suggestion of 'girl time'. Not that she didn't love Facedancer like a brother but his feelings could be...trying.

"Forge's promises ended as well, Edwin. Mutant or flatscan, both suffer the same from love." She didn't want to hash it out in public, not right now. He meant well, but lacked understanding. Storm laid her hand on his face, something that might have been shockingly intimate had the two not known each other for years. "Edwin. It is not your pain to feel in my stead. You cannot take away those things that make me who I am. Not the joy, nor the tears, my big brother."

She nodded as he described their building, vaguely remembering it. It had been so long since she had even thought of Warren, let alone his financial troubles. "Good to see that you managed to hold on to something from that time, Edwin. And no, the mohawk was for that time of my life. I have changed and grown since then. To revisit the past for the sake of nostalgia and a return to previous catharsis is simply not my style."

She slightly envied the ease with which he used a third arm, although rarely had she wanted another's powers over her own. She embodied life, creation, destruction, and vengeance via her gifts, and they were a massive part of her identity. "May I?" Her desire to hold Luke was obvious, and not simply because she could have channeled lightning against Edwin, although she didn't mind keeping him guessing.

Dia shook her head, “doesn’t matter. He’s healthy and happy... well most of the time.” Letting ou a light chuckle she thought back to Ororo’s original question. The answer she should have given was that whether he ended up a mutant or a human it wouldn’t have mattered. That was something she’d keep in mind should she be asked again.

The weather goddess mentioning needing a room didn’t strike the ashen female as anything but needing time. Yet before she could make any comment on the matter or on Storm’s circumstances Edwin’s comment about promises earned a hard look. Though the mistresss of metal was more than capable of creating literal dagger from the skin around her eyes the look she gave him was far more deadly. The wisdom and calm Storm showed was worthy of admiration, something that should be imitated, something that even an award seemed not enough to give to Ororo. Yet unlike the white haired weather witch Dia was not as forgiving, not for the time being but her lips would remain sealed on the matter. Storm had said enough and there wasn’t any point to digging deeper on the matter.

Focusing back on Ororo, she pressed her lips in thought. “You could stay with us if you want ‘Ro, it’d be rent free and you stay for however long you want.” After all the time Edwin allowed others to stay at their place, though it was his at that time, Dia felt it was her turn to make an offer. Besides if Face went a long with it, well it’d mean a lot to her.

Almost anyone else touching Ed's face would have had him recoiling. With Ororo, he accepted her touch. It was intimate without needing to be romantic, and even with Dia beside him he was unashamed. His hand touched the back of hers gently. "Yeah, I suppose that's true. Doesn't make me any less ticked, little sister. There's just two things in this world we can hold onto when the world goes nuts, the way I see it - love and family. Took me a long goddamn time to learn that lesson, but now that it's finally sunk in... I'm not letting it go." Glancing at Dia, he couldn't help but smile. He wasn't wearing a mask today, this was Edwin as he was now. "Especially because a very patient woman helped me get it. And everything else I was missing, too."

Edwin raised an eyebrow at her comment, wondering if she was going on about his memory and such - he'd been working on that too. Still, he smirked. "You know, that was an attempt at a joke. I mean, if anyone can make it look good, it's you." He turned to Dia with a bemused expression to counter the daggers being stared in his direction. "No offense, love, but I think your hair is perfect as-is."

Ed's hand snuck out and wrapped around Dia's, his fingers intertwining with hers. Regardless of the glare which told him he was pretty well in the doghouse right now because of expressing his anger at T'Challa, he was going to try to make it better. "Of course. Honestly, that was my intended implication in mentioning our building. I mean, if you really need space and alone-time, we do still have the place out in Jersey, too - the one where my family lived, down the street from Cal's place. I think there's a car in the garage, if you need one. If the keys aren't near it, we can find them."

"Is he a difficult child?" 'Ro smirked at Dia, and looked pointedly at Edwin. "He must take after his father, then." None of it showed on her face, though, as she delightedly made silly faces at her friends' son, as she picked him up. In mere moments, she had gone from Storm, former leader of the X-men, Avenger, and more, to just a woman playing with a young child. "He's going to be a handful, I bet." As Dia offered Storm their place, she considered it. It was in the City, it would be secure, knowing both Edwin's paranoia and the scope of their powers, and two friends would be there. On the other hand, she knew it would mean eventually Edwin would infuriate her. There was only so much one could tolerate, after all.

"Only if its not an imposition on the two of you," was her response to Dia, although the way Face had piped up she had a feeling he was more than fine with it as well. "It would be good to have a week or two approximating something like a normal life." She kept her face neutral as Edwin explained his take on love and family, and she could see the love in his eyes for Dia. "Well, we all knew it would require a saint to settle down with you. Or a devil."

Sidestepping his joke explanation, 'Ro shook her head. "For you, perhaps, but for those of us that can't change our hair on a whim, its a very personal thing. The mohawk...well, drastic times called for drastic measures. It was a visible sign that though we had been hurt, we endured. We toughened up, because we were forced to." As he mentioned his old family home, she arched an eyebrow. "Trying to exile me to New Jersey, Edwin? You should know better than that."

"Show me a child that isn't, oh sure some may not be troublesome in the beginning but sooner or later all kids have their moments." Dia laughed lightly. It was nice to see Storm as it felt like ages since the last time they spoke but after thinking on the matter Dia wasn't quite sure if they had talked since Storm got married. They ran into each other at least once but Storm was mostly in Wakanda and didn't visit except for that one that that Dia could have sworn the weather goddess did...or maybe it was a faulty memory. It was moments like this that she envied Edwin's memory but most of the time she didn't for having the ability to forget was both a blessing and a curse just as much as having the ability to remember everything.

Soon her long fingers were intertwined with Edwin's, even though he had been in trouble over his comment about T'Challa it was something as simple as a small loving gesture that practically erased everything except for her love for the shapeshifter. He knew how to get to her and the mistress of metals found comfort in that.

It honestly took her head a moment to catch up to the moment only recalling Storm's comment about staying with them. "It's not an imposition at all Ororo." Dia felt a little embarrassed by the fact she had gotten so lost in a moment and all because of Edwin's touch, it always amazed her that he still had the ability to do that to her but at the same time she loved it.....that man, oh how she loved him.

Edwin raised a hand almost by instinct at Ororo's argument about not wanting to impose. He knew she would say it; hell, he'd probably played out some version of this discussion in his head at one time or another. When it came down to it, though, he cared about his family. And Storm was family. "Great minds think alike. Ororo, giving you a place to stay is not an imposition. And yes, we have endured - we're still here, after all. And I would never try to exile you..."

He shook his head, tightening the hand that wasn't raised around Dia's slightly as a realization hit him. The idea of sending a friend away had struck a chord; one that Ed was certain both women would recognize. Hell, he hadn't even had the heart to kick Typhoid Mary out, when he clearly knew she'd been up to no good. His home was open to his family - he had something good in his life, and felt that it was right to share his good fortune. "... that was a joke, wasn't it."

He sighed lightly and went back to smiling. "I don't think he's difficult; he's a baby. Trying to explore the world around him and deal with the fact that his parents are superheroes. What scares me is the discussions we're going to have to have when he's a teenager. He's not going out on the streets untrained to be the kind of vigilante who only gets in the way - he's getting trained; if not at Xavier's, then by someone we can trust. At that point, he'll probably be difficult."

Ororo's comment comment about the kind of woman it took to get him to settle down got Ed grinning. "Well, it took someone who's a little of both, really. Someone who had the patience and ability to get through all my mental nonsense too."

Given that both of her friends were all but insisting she stay with them, and that she herself would prefer to be among friends rather than alone in a hotel, 'Ro accepted. She had spent enough time alone, already, in the immediate days following the divorce. She glanced at Edwin as she answered Dia. "I can show you an adult that remains difficult. Luke perhaps just takes after his father, in that regard."

Surely her joke hadn't been that bad. Had it? "Yes, it was indeed a joke. You might want to work again on your sense of humor, Edwin. Its a very humanizing trait." Storm's own sense of humor tended towards dry observations of others, but Ed was typically funny, or at least open to humor. Maybe fatherhood had done the necessary thing and matured the man.

"Would you allow that if he's unpowered?" There were some unpowered, non-technological heroes and villains out there, but they tended to be few and far between. It was a dangerous way to be in a world of metal controllers, and weather witches. As she held their son, and was told that he was her nephew, she understood what he meant.

And as she watched the way that Dia could immediately, wordlessly, get through to Ed, while he tried to explain it...there was again that sense of loss and also joy, for her friends. "I suppose that's a tremendous amount of patience. I never knew you had it in you, Dia. I'll see you again a little later, Mister Luke." 'Ro handed him off to Facedancer.

"Now if you don't mind, I'd like to borrow your wife for a while. I love you like a brother, Edwin, but some things are between sisters only."
