Before its release this game was dubbed, "The Halo Killer" then it received less than stellar scores. I decided to find out for myself... Controls/Gameplay: The game is an FPS(First -Person Shooter) so will find yourself wanting good controls in the middle of an intense firefight and Killzone's control does exactly that. With R1 as primary trigger R2 as secondary picking off baddies is quite simple. L1 is to nade and L2 is to crouch. The face button also serve their purpose for reloading switching weapons and action. Also clicking down os the L stick is to sprint and clicking on the right is to zoom(If applicable). It was seem a bit complex, but you will master the controls in a heartbeat. The starts you off by playing as I.S.A. Captain Yan Templar, however there are 3 more unlockable characters as you progress through the game... The variety of weapons is good(I.S.A. and Helghast) and even though the game has a futuristic setting, all the guns are somewhat similar to fiirearms of today. So you find Lazer Blasters of Photon Torpedoes here. I played the game on normal mode and the enemies' A.I. was not at all spectacular. The game's main draw is its intense action(no sneaking about here) so be prepared for blood, explosions, furious gun battles, and empty clips! On an added note, part of your lost health will regenerate over time, and there will be medpacks to make your time a little bit easier since you are 4 man squad(when you get all the characters) against hordes of Helghast soldiers. Graphics: The graphics are great for a PS2 game and the visuals are awesome. Their mouths even move when they talk. Storyline: The storyline for this game,(despite the fact that it is a FPS) is quite good and believable. The intro trailer shows a the Helghast leader giving a speech while it shows the the background story of the Helghast and its preparations for an invasion. As the leader continues, it shows the massive Helghast fleet heading for the I.S.A. colony, Vetka. However the is a space cannon waiting to intercept, once aware of the Helghast presence, General Adams, one of the two I.S.A. generasl orders the weapon to fire, however the weapon malfunctions and the Helghast fleet procced safely, now the Helghast blitzkreig begins and the speech ends. This is where the story starts. You play as Catain Yan Templar, one of General Vaughton's underlings ans your goal is to figure out what exactly happened to the Space Cannon and its malfunction. As you progress and form your squad(Each with their own special skills and talents) The characters are developed well and their personalities and ideals are very prominent and they will even find clashes because of it. You will be given the option of choosing who to play as. You will find yourself in dense jungles, murky swamps, trenches, abandoned cites, snowy mountains, and many more. As you get deeper and deeper into the story, you will be hit with a huge plot twist and the storyline will pick up from there... Yay, the ending leaves you open for a Killzone2! Other Factors: I loved the voice acting in this game, it's not at all overdone like in some other games. And the replay value is excellent! You can choose to play one of many different types of games online(Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, etc...) or you can even enjoy multiplayer offline! With the help of up to 14 bots(you control the A.I.) you can wage ware with the Helghast or I.S.A. anytime you want! However, there is no co-op mode. Conclusion: This game may not be a "Halo Killer" but don't let that stop you from playing this game! This an amazing, fun-filled experience from beginning to end. The game was short but man, I loved every minute of it. I also found it intereseting because Killzone's storyline has some subtle parallels to World War 2... Once overrated, now underrated, this game deserve your time. Rating: 8.50 out of 10.0(Beyond the hype lies a great and underappreciated FPS experience) Killzone(Playstation2): Screenshots Killzone(Playstation2): Movies |

Man this game was so much fun to play especially with two players. Me and my buddy would just pick a level and max out the bots on hard and take em out. We seriously played for like 4 hours straight shooting up the baddies. Great game. Worth the buy. |
