Academia is simultaneously both the part of America that is most obsessed with diversity, and the least diverse part of the country. On the one hand, colleges bend over backwards to hire minority professors and recruit minority students, aided by an ever-burgeoning bureaucracy of “diversity officers”. Yet, when it comes to politics, they are not just indifferent to diversity, but downright allergic to it.

Bias in universities is hard to correct because it is usually not overt: it has to do with prejudice about which topics are worth studying and what values are worth holding. Stephen Balch, the president of the conservative National Association of Scholars, argues that university faculties suffer from the same political problems as the “small republics” described in Federalist 10: a motivated majority within the faculty finds it easy to monopolise decision-making and squeeze out minorities.

Sir Galahad, Lord of the Realm
It is an often stated principle that a diverse educational environment has a beneficial impact on the overall quality of education. This is commonly taken as gospel but I have never read any quantitative study to determining if this is factually true, or simply secular dogma.

As an example, I have read that children often benefit from an education that is segregated by gender especially in the adolescent years but this result is counterintuitive if one accepts as an article of faith, the diversity dogma. In any event, if the diversity argument has some merit, then what is most beneficial to the student is not a diversity of skin color, sexual equipment, sexual orientation or religious background, but a diversity of ideas. Liberal domination of academia is far more damaging to the concept of an education that exposes the student to a wide range of ideas than is any discrimination based on more traditional categorizations of students and faculty based on race, gender, ... at el. A rainbow of brains is far more important then a rainbow of bodies and American education has become monochromatically leftist pink.

Best Regards,
Richard

Just as an FYI, the numbers in this study are for humanities professors. From the article

It is notable that the surveys show far more conservatives in the more rigorous disciplines such as economics than in the vaguer 1960s “ologies”.

So stating that all educators is leftist bias is incorrect and misleading. One thing that I've always been a believer in is that any degree should have a requirement of so many credits from the 'opposing' faculty. So a Science degree should have so many humanities credits, and a humanties (or arts) degree should have so many science credits. As Richard said, for a more balanced education.
