Hometown Christmas Parade; How was yours?

Frostproof is a small town, which despite it's weird name, really exists and we do have a Christmas parade. Saturday night is was so cold, all the snowbirds wore hats and mitts. They had cuddled up in fleece blankets, drank hot choco while the locals ran around in shorts and t-shirts.
It lasted well over 20 minutes. My favorite was the Red Hat Society. Those ladies had dressed up their golf carts with red and purple tinsel, lights and shiny ornaments, too cute! Second favorite was a small float dedicated to all three hurricanes that went through Frostproof this year. They had a piece of wall complete with torn up siding, a running generator on one side, a family sitting around a table with a radio, gas lantern and water jugs on the other side of the wall. They all looked miserable. Neat idea but probably not funny to those still waiting for their roof to be fixed.
My daugther's favorite was the Rotary Club, they tossed the most candy. She also liked the last float that carried Santa in his giant sleigh.
It was a nice walk home. We passed many decorated houses, some had gone overboard! One house had a herd of pink illuminated plastic flamingos in the front yard next to a sign that read "Christmas in Florida". Nice try!
We couldn't wait to get back home, throw on those fleece sweaters and curl up with a hot choco on the couch. Tis' the Season, even in Florida!

LOL, to be honest, it looks extremely ugly, totally out of line. Oh well!

Do you mean all the Christmas displays around here have been put up by "activitists" for some kind of advertising? I would never have guessed it. I thought they were put up out of good will, mostly by Christians. I guess that I learn something new every day.

I see you're also learning the art of using sarcasm. Interesting.

Well, I do have outstanding teachers who post on this forum as role models. I really thought it was just a logical extension of what had been posted earlier.

Truthfully, I was just yanking your chain (I think you knew that).

It was just too hard to resist. :)

Thanks, but that is OK Pianobuff, I am used to such replies. If someone should respond to colo-crawdad in that manner he will cry to high heaven saying that he is being censored and that he will just stop posting. He got the point and that is all that matters. How he acts upon it will be up to God to judge him not me.

I again extend my hand to help colo-crawdad understand God's Word if he is willing. All he needs to do is to PM me and I will show him ever kindness as I do not harbor ill feelings for anyone even colo-crawdad. To me we all will stand as equals to give account to God for the Words and Deeds that we accumulated here in this life.

I wish you and yours, colo-crawdad and his family, and all, a happy and joyous celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ, "God with us."

I don't mean to hijack this thread but.....did anyone have a Christmas parade in their hometown?

More sarcasm?????? ;)

Please accept my apologies for my role in diverting this thread.

To answer your question, I don't think we've had our "hometown" parade yet, I think we have one (I've only been here about a year now). I was told that Santa Claus will be travelling the streets on top of a fire truck next Sunday afternoon - does that count?

PIAN0buff,

Me too and I think you knew that as I believe did Pastor Charlie. :)

Millsfamily, I apologize for my apparent hijacking.

To answer the original question. No, the town in which I live did not have a Christmas parade. My wife and I will spend several hours on Christmas eve viewing the lighted scenes in the Denver Metro area on Christmas eve. We have done so for about 45 years.

Sarcasm and chain pulling aside, we have never considered any of displays to be advertising and I hope we will not begin to do so now.

Piano, sure counts. Santa's sleigh was pulled my a big semi honking the horn - and it did count.

Colo, we do this every year on xmas eve with our lil' one. Maybe we'll get some snow this year. I never give up hope!

Yes, Andrea, we had our annual Christmas parade here last Friday night. The businessfolk in our small town have what has always been called a "Customer Appreciation Day" where they have big sales, drawings, serve food or refreshments, stay open late and just really have a great time. The finale of the festivaties is the parade where the floats have been optimized by the use of generators and lots and lots of lights! Huge outburst of fireworks at the end.

I don't believe that Pahrump has one. I know they have a Santa Clause event for children.

I spend most of my time in Tucson, and they do have a variety of parades during the Christmas season I will be down there tommorow, so I'm not sure if one has happened yet or not.

Merry Christmas

Since this is my first year here I don't know if we have one. I know the town I moved from didn't have one. But we used to have a 50 foot santa that stood at one of the exits from the highway ALL YEAR ROUND. It got painted green for st patty's day, red white and blue for the 4th, pastel colors around easter! It was not funny!

But I hope we do have a parade, and if not I may see what I can do to get one going!

We had our Christmas parade last week. Not too fancy; 20 or so floats, businesses, churches, Girl Guides/Scouts, Navy League, dance school. Kinsmen, Lions Club, fire station, RCMP, couple of choirs. It was lots of fun for the kids. Not too cold.
The Lutheran Church at the end of main street serves up hot chocolate and has photos with Santa after the parade. Our mall has a 'midnight madness' sale after the parade and oodles of people end up down there afterwards.
One nice thing I can say about our town, is that they haven't taken Christ out of Christmas. We have a beautiful nativity scene in the town square, "Merry Christmas" written on the front of town hall.
