China's lust for territorial expansion and superpower status.

Quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- China has launched the first submarine in a new class of nuclear subs designed to fire intercontinental ballistic missiles, U.S. defense officials said Friday.

The submarine is, at a minimum, months away from having missiles installed and going on a cruise, one official said, discussing foreign weapons developments only on the condition of anonymity. Still, it is further evidence of China's intentions to expand both its nuclear weapons and submarine forces, officials say.

It was widely known that China was building the new class of nuclear-missile submarine, called the "Type 094," but the launch is far ahead of what U.S. intelligence expected, one official said.

The launch was first reported in The Washington Times. The newspaper reported that U.S. intelligence spotted the sub at a shipyard 250 miles from Beijing.

It would be China's first submarine capable of launching nuclear weapons that could reach the United States from the country's home waters, officials said.

Myself and others have been warning of Chinas imminent rise for several years. They will play large role in things to come I have no doubt. In the interest in not turning this into a religious topic I will refrain from further comment.

They already control the retail world here and abroad.

Did you know ,, that it was recently reported that Walmart depends upon China for 95% of their goods? This was reported just this week. So much for the claim--Made In America.

If Walmart were a country, it would be the 7th largest importer of all goods from China.

So --we now know where they get the money for those new subs and missles. I bet they don't have a budget deficit.

Eventually, one of those counties capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to America--probably will.

China will in all likelihood, replace the US as the worlds most powerful country by mid or late century. No surprise in that, it is the natural order of things. No empire, from a historical perspective, has been immortal. (Don't get upset that I used the term empire, it does not have to be negative.)

Does anyone else find this a little scary?

I believe that secular world power is fluid--and never will stay in one country or one continent for long.

Remeber--we are in this world--not of this world.

The real battle is not over land, money, political idiolotry, or who rules---it is a battle for souls.

I am glad others see this too. For awhile I thought that America is blind as a bat. There are small groups in/out of governent that are warning about the danger of China, but it seems to fall on deaf ears.

I know that Walmart imports a large amount but I didn't know it was that much.

Although the ebb and flow of government is a fact of history. It is also clear that certain evils can be avoided or at least it should not be helped. The other danger with China is the influence I think it has on Russia. Putin is trying to model Russia by reinserting authoritarian rule with veiled western style economics.

Now if the politicians and corporations would stop their shortsighted and greedy money grubbing ways. Our posterity just might be secure for the next couple of generations.

Oh,For petes sake! They're Communists first and foremost MrsS.History should have taught us a lesson in dealing with these pricks. But no,Congress granted them most favored nation[MFN] status like a bunch of morons. With MFN status, imports from China have a maximum tariff of 2% while China maintains a 30% to 40% tariff on US goods. Since we started MFN with China, the trade deficit has been increasing from $5 Billion in 1989 to $40 Billion now, which translates into an additional 800,000 jobs lost in this country. We're digging our own graves. While we spend billions on Wars and foreign aid etc...Unlike Russia,The China Commies are strenghthening their military and space programs with the very US dollars we purchase their products with.I don't see a very bright future for our kids if this continues. The Cold War with Russia may have ended, but another one is right around the corner with China and is probrably unstoppable now.M.A.D.[Mutually Assured Destruction] through nukes will be/is the only thing keeping them in check.

Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio said it right,"We have got Members[Congress] here who are going to sell out for Nike tennis shoes ... Barbie dolls ... and Walmart."

"Free trade with an enemy, particularly one as formidable as China, is foolish to the extreme. Infusion of American money and technology into a militaristic, communist regime will only add to the strength of this enemy. It will not help those already enslaved by the anachronistic dogma of communism. Only freedom will help them and freedom cannot come as long as the communist government is kept strong through cash generating trade.
America ignores her enemies at her own peril in todays troubled times. America strengthens an enemy and risks her own doom."- James E. Culberson 2004

Lone Wolf stole my thunder.

I remember a few years ago while Clinton was still President, and the Monica thing was all over the news, he invited some of China's top military brass into our military academies and showed them things I would have never thought to share. Things like how we train our officers, how we develop military strategy and doctrine.

He provided them a window into our "soul" all in the name of "mutual information sharing" and "good will".

I thought at the time this may have been a by-product of some sort of blackmail after hearing a remark by some Hollywood type saying Clinton's scandal was "no threat to the republic".

I thought if he had skeletons in his closet, and they were bad enough to invite some coersion from others who knew the secret, this sort of thing could happen. Then lo and behold we start sharing technology and National Defense philosphy with a known adversary. Sheesh! I was livid.

They have a uge reservoir of manpower, working for just a fraction of our western salaries and they are busy like bees.
I really have no idea what we could oppose to that.

"Oh,For petes sake! They're Communists first and foremost "

Communists my backside. Go to Shanghai or Beijing sometime. The Chinese people are the ultimate Capitalists. They will (and do) work 360 days a year, 16+ hours a day and if there is a buck in it, they will make it happen. Not because they are being forced to by government but because they want our standard of living and many of them are now achieving it. That is why they are an economic threat. That is why the prices of commodities are going up so fast. They are now where Japan was in the fifties. The present government is totalitarian and may label itself Communist but in practice it could hardly be less Communist.

Awesome competitors yes but enemies, I am not so sure. Japan and South Korea have shown that it can be far more profitable to be an economic than a military power and the Soviet Union showed just the opposite. The Chinese love a profit and China has all it needs to be a monster economic power.
