I was just pondering the advantage I have here on the forum. I can share my thoughts, opinions, hopes, fears, laughter, tears, philosophy, politics, religion, family, and friends-ALL AROUND THE WORLD-. I know we have members in Germany, Holland, and Canada. If I miss another country--my apologizes. Boy am I lucky!! I want to thank you for all your input, and offer up a very, very Merry Christmas to you all. My prayers go out to you and your families during this time of year that we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. :thanx :thanx :thanx Fr. Mike |

Thank you, Friar Mike - and all best wishes to you and every Stateside member too! I may warm your heart a tad to know that, while I saw this thread Title for several hours, I didnt open it until now..... because I dont feel like a "Foreigner" here. A little different, sure, but not a "Foreigner". And that, sir, is a compliment to everyone here. I'll say it plenty in the next 3 weeks, but "Merry Christmas, Everyone!" |

I was born in Britain. I was under the understanding that everyone else were foreigners. In fact it is resentment over realizing you're a foreigner, that causes most of the problems in the world. |

Merry Christmas everyone. It's finally starting to look like it up here. For most of November the warm winds took all the snow away. I was beginning to wonder if I oughtta put the snowblower away and bring out the lawn mower for one last pass at my back yard. Then, we got dumped on. 6 inches Thursday night, and another 12 inches by Friday morning. What a great look the neighborhood has now. All those Christmas lights reflecting off the new snow. Beautiful! |

I would interpret "Frohes Fest" as a non-denominational greeting such as "Seasons Greeting", even though nobody celebrates Hannukah or Kwanza etc. in Germany. Sometimes I'm having a hard time translating because things don't make sense anymore if I use the exact translation, kinda takes it out of context sometimes. LOL, try to tell German jokes in English!!! |

Of course I do not speak German but use a translator. Season Greetings is translated as "würzt Grüße." I have no way of determining the accuracy except to take it upon faith. |

Thank you Fr.Mike and a VROLIJK KERSTMIS for all of you here as well. We are not doing anything about Xmas here in the Netherlands yet. We have the St.Nicolas celebration first on the 5th of december. Thats when all the kids get their presents and after that we quickly put all the Xmas decorations up and start shopping again for more presents for under the tree. We really must be mad to go trough this ordeal of shopping and celebrating, twice in one month. Een vrolijk kerstmis en een gelukkig nieuwjaar to you all. Cornelius |

"Lively a kerstmis and a happy new year" How close is this translation? Cornelius, I wish to you and yours also, a Happy and Joyous Celebration of the Birth of our Lord Jesus, "God with us." |

Very close, apart from the lively. Mind you, when the family comes over it could be that as well. But "vrolijk" means just "merry". Thanks for your wishes and of course all the same for you and your loved ones. |

That's funny. Season as in Summer, Fall, Winter etc. is the same word you'd use for spices - seasonings. I guess your translator can't distinguish because it used Season in the meaning of spices! |

Andrea, Onze talen verschillen ook niet zo veel, ik kan vrij goed Duits lezen maar spreken gaat niet echt goed. Trans: Our languages don't differ all that much, I can read a little German but speaking is a different matter. How did you do? |
