Why is the Breach listed as a RV site?; must be a mistake

I just voted for our site.

My neighborhood here is listed as an RV forum. !!!!!

I would hardly call the Breach an RV site!!

I believe it should be listed as a general discussion site, with an emphasis on right leaning, religious and political topics.

I'm sure that the RV listing hurts our membership totals. We need to reach out to those with a different perspective on matters. The RV crowd is a great group of folks. It is made up of older, more affluent, and conservative segment of the population.

Is this where we want to remain?

A forum of mostly RVers (due to our roots with ATC); note that it says to talk about anything, and also at the end it says "Non-RVers welcome, too!"

emphasis on right leaning and religious - I think that would be a big turn off if this forum was listed as right leaning and religious.
I'd say most of us are RVers and we happen to talk about politics and religion on occassion.

Ten packs,

What I meant was that this is a right leaning religious and political leaning group of folks here.

I wonder if we should make more of an effort to recruit some with a different leaning then what is now firmly in the majority.

We can learn and grow more by having more debates and spirited converstions than by simply having subjects that we all pretty much have the same view on.

I'm thowing this idea out for discussion.

Huh? Now I'm confused. Do you want to attract non-religious, left-leaning, non-Rvers if you change the name of this forum to right-leaning and religious. That doesn't attract the opposite!

Yes he wants those with different views to come here. Everyone thinking the same thing gets boreing. He can not convert anyone if we all already think the same thing!

I'm not religious in your kind of way but I can't find one religious topic that I would be able to participate in because I can't quote scriptures or bible paragraphs, I don't speak tongue and I often don't understand (most of the time) whattchal talking about. Some have bible verses in their signature and I don't understand that kind of language.

As for politics, I think this forum is more likely to accept left-leaning new members now than before the election. A friend of mine (a lefty) asked me about this forum and I wouldn't have given her the addy for the life of me because I know she would not have survived for one single day. I wouldn't have let her run into an open knife. It might be different now.

I think it makes more sense to say we're politically and religiously open to everyone in order to attract a broad spectrum of new members. But then again, how open are we?

Most everyone is. By telling your views and opinions you are attemting to get the other person to see your side, or your "truth". Not everyone is this way, many don't care if you change anyone, but most try. Some are just little attempts no biggy if you dont' change, and as we saw not to long ago others go overboard unless you agree.

No, well yeah I guess so. I guess the reason I talk about Christ is in hopes of getting everyone to accept him. I don't do the hard sell thing. But yeah, I guess that is the way it is.

Buddy, heck no we dont' all think alike. That is why we have survived!

Buddy,

Of course we don't all think alike. ---but we do scare off some folks from time to time. And some have quit coming here. That is a fact.

I don't care whether you are a republican or dem, or independednt, but it is my goal to point everyone towards Christ. Either by my words or my life or a combination of the two.

I'm not ashamed to admit it and as a pastor that is always my #1 goal. I'm not going to condemn anyone for what they do or don't believe but I would hope that there is enough God in my life to cause others to want some of what I have. I realize I won't always be the perfect reflection but I'm trying.

After running off almost every one who did not agree with the party line, now you are on a membership drive?
Any free toaster ovens?

We Canadians and apparently, many Americans will only put up with so much crap before they bug out!

To debate is one thing, but to be called perverts, idiots, cowards, etc. is not something that most mature adults will put up with.

With the net containing more sites than anyone can surf in a lifetime, no one is going to waste much time in a place where they are made unwelcome.

So, if you are serious about attracting more members, I suggest that you consider carrying on a rational debate and shelve the misspelling of names and counties.

You might just find that someone from another country or from a different political party might have something to add to the conversation.

All are welcome here and welcome to present their opinion her. I do not think that anyone has been run off. Two were banned for their actions, not their beliefs nor principles. We have not stopped those from any country posting here nor can anyone cheange the few that are xenophobic. IMO most who post here are good people and some carry their ideas to extreme. As long as they do not break the simple rules all are welcome here. This forum did indeed spawn as a splinter of RVers. IMO it is closer to a general discusion group than an RV forum, now.

Fr. Mike,

I would agree with the effort to recruit all of all kinds of thinking. The discusions are always better and more informative with more perspectives. I think you are right about the majority but How would you suggest that we recruit other perspectives? Our

KiwiToo,

Maybe if we changed the description of our site--leave off the word RV. for starts.

I know that when somebody with a liberal opinion trys to post, a good deal of piling on takes place. That is one example.

I have read posts on other forums where we are considered a bunch of right wing bible thumpers here on the Breach.

Well---I plead guilty to that one.

I believe if we listen to what different folks have to say, and then give a thoughful response--rather than name calling or having a know it all attitude, it would go a long way towards making this place feel more welcome to those who have a different view or opinion.

I plead guilty for being overbearing and biased towards my own beliefs. I'm going to make a conscious decision to try harder--listening--but it is against my nature to keep my big mouth shut.

I do want more variety of posters and threads.

Merry Christmas

Fr. Mike,
I would say that there is a lot of piling on or even :handclap over good Christian posts. That is part of discussion. I would that others of different beliefs would "pile on." I think that for the most part the name calling has quieted. I would also hope that others will listen in to see if the discussions would be more to their liking, as time goes on. I like this forum because it is between the AtC and the Soapbox. It has soul with minimal rules. It laughs and talks politics, religon, culture, society, etc.

OP,

Don't worry Dave, my stripes are painted on pretty thick.

Besides--what would you guys do without this old Priest -- and his misquided preaching?

We all need to appreciate those with a different attitude and leaning. The fields have many variety of flowers. It makes them beautiful.

I found that tree you posted. I'm pretty hopeless in computer workings.

Mike id everyone here could get along as well as you when disagreed with it would be a very pleasant place indeed.

The problem some have is if what they say is not agreed with they evade a direct question or accuse you of attacking them. Either way it detracts from the debate. Having said that, I realize it is the manner and nature of some to do so and like you and I their stripes are pretty much waterproof also.

At one of those other forums where we are considered a bunch of right wing bible thumpers I have been piled on by the liberals who reside there. I expect it to happen because of where I am. However, would you have those on this board with differing opinions be silenced?

I would say that they are the same only with a left wing secular bias.

Fr. Mike on one of the forums which I know you get on we here at the breach are considered far right wing conservatives with a somewhat barbaric trend because we lack civility and rules to enforce civility. On the other forum I know you are on we are considered tyrannical dictatorial bible thumpers with far, far, too many rules to have an open discussion. It seems to me we are somewhere in the middle which is where I believe our members want us to be.
