I get the 15th off with pay to do my shopping. Company offers it every year. Kids will be at school, so I should be able to get it all done, should we do it right, and have the list planned out ahead of time. We have the kids Christmas play the next day, but that Friday I should be able to wrap up everything and be done! The kids are making some crafts that we will put in a basket along with a gift card for other family members. (I know it is cheating but it is easier) I should be able to wrap up all the shopping in one week! Hot dog! |

We only shop for our 2 grandkids, so that shopping has been done for well over a month. Our son emails the list and we choose from that. We do add a few Grandma & Grandpa chosen ones too. We stopped buying for our son & DIL along with my Mom a few years ago. My Mother has never quite accepted that, but it was our sons idea for us. Hard to buy for people who live 1600 mi away. Since we have to travel to Nebraska each year (mid Dec) we have a definite budget and stick to it. We escrow $1000/yr to pay for the gifts and the trip. This is a great way to do it, but you need to be a little on the anal retentive/obessive/compulsive side to do this escrow and stick to it each month. We have it set up as an auto-draw straight into an ING savings account. We're leaving late next week for Nebraska, so all you mid-Westerners keep those interstates clear of snow & ice. |

We're not going to exchange gift with my folks in Germany. Postage is just to high. Every year I send my mom a box with "American" christmas decorations though. She loves them! Hubby and I are not doing the gift thing this year. However, I did start a country style primitive plaid quilt for our bed. I know he'll love it and I'll make matching pillow cases and dust ruffle. It's a present for the both of us, it has our names and wedding date stitched around the edges. I did some of the shopping for our daugther, I bought her a ton of books. She reads a lot and loves science books, so this is what she'll get from me. I also made her a couple of "cool chick" sweaters and a poncho. Hubby is planning on soccer shoes with cleats and some videos and books about soccer. I ain't doing the Barbie Thing, we did that for years and then she'd never actually play with the dolls. Stacy, if I didn't know any better I'd swear you work in Germany but even in Germany nobody gets a day off with pay to do their Christmas shopping. Hold on to that job, if you ever quit, I'm willing to move, I'm a skilled secretary, make excellent coffee and I write shorthand. |

I know, kinda weird isn't it! I have only worked here a little less then two years. So this is only my second Christmas here. When he called me into his office I had no clue what was going on. When he said you can have one full day or two half days off with pay to do your shopping my jaw hit the floor! This year they only offered one full day instead of the half! But who's complaining? I know some question whether I am really allowed on here like this during work hours, but let me tell you a bit about my employer. He bets us on the Chiefs games. If us three ladies win (we each get our own bet, and if any of us win) he has to buy all three of us lunch. If he beats all three of us we buy him lunch. Last year he owed us 6 lunches. Now he doesn't take us to Mcd's, we go to NICE places, were the bill is almost one weeks salary! Then if you are the winner you get a gift certificate on top of the lunch. Some times it is to Price Chopper, sometimes to movies, or to the plaza. When my daughter came to work with me for take your child to work day, he sent her home with $20 in McD gift certificates. We usually get $50 gift certificates from Price chopper and Target at Christmas time. Then in March they do the yearly reviews, you get a raise, and a bonus based on last year profits! So now do you beleive that they are okay with me being on here? :hobbes :hobbes :hobbes |
