How about throwing another one in the shopping basket for some folks who might need some help this time of year?? Also--if you have any blankets that are laying around--I'm sure a homeless person could put one to use. A lot of churches, shelters, and agencies will distribute them for you if you can't or don't want to do it yourself. This will make some folks day--and you get your reward too. Fr. Mike |

Great reminder Mike. I tend to not do the turkey thing, but I do donate canned goods, and I will check my blanket closet. I know I have some that are almost new anyway that we aren't using! |

Hey all, Our local pantry is always looking for more TP, feminine products, toothpaste, razors, and stuff like that. Another item that gets overlooked is pre-sweetened kids' cereal. I think it makes a nice treat for them! Laurie |

Laurie, You are so right. Thank you so much for this reminder. We often overlook the other needs that those less fortunate have. A feather for you too. Fr. Mike |

Beddows, I say we feed first--and I'll worry about PETA later. Oh, I know Canada musst have similar needs and I have a lot of feathers to give out. Why don't you start a thread on that Canadian forum I keep hearing about. Hunger doesn't know anything about borders. Fr. Mike |

Fr. Mike, You can keep the feather. I've always had the belief that donations to the truly needy don't need to be hailed as an, 'above and beyond', type of thing. It's just part of life, we may all be there one day. Thanks, Laurie |

Hey, what's almost as good as the donation is helping disperse the goods. If you can look at some of the appreciative faces as you truck those boxes in and set them down on the floor, you'll never want to be left out again! |

Our church started a Thanksgiving and Christmas food drive two weeks ago. My daugther helps packing the food and brings them to Sunday school every week. I also donate all clothes that no longer fit to the church's Second Hand Shop. My favorite charity is the BinkyPatrol. They accept knitted/crocheted or sewn blanket to give to kids in need. I love knitting and all that so I donate to them on a regular basis. I have a friend in Canada (uhhhh, ahhhhh) and a few years ago she told me about this family in need in her neighborhood. I knitted an outfit for their newborn baby boy. Last year, she sent me an email saying that she saw them at the store. They had a second baby boy and guess what? He was wearing the sweater and hat I made for his big brother. Made me feel very good. |

I think we will stick with the canned goods route. With our luck if we gave a turkey to a homeless shelter they would all get sick, contact the ACLU and sue us for everything we own. slobote |

Father Mike, Certainly a good thought, but this time I will use my charity spirit to pick up supplies for our wounded soldiers in the Baghdad hospital. Going over to Lackland this afternoon to stock up on gym shorts, underwear, and sweatsuits to send over! |
