  • Sunrise. The golden glow of the savannah slowly began to creep up and over the lands, bathing everything in sight with a heavenly shimmer. The grasses, however, weren’t tainted by the light. The dry autumn was already beginning to dry out the grasses, turning them into dried stalks the colors of sunrise.

One lioness wasn’t as into the beautiful light, though. As soon as the pride had woken up, lazily spilling out of the caves and onto the grass, Kitara made a point to sneak away as quickly as she could. By the time had fully risen, she’d made her way partway through the grasslands. Grass, and only grass, seemed to extend before and around her endlessly.

About halfway through, though, Kita began to grow tired of this walking. The grasslands didn’t seem as if they’d be ending anytime soon, or at least from her vantage point. Besides, if she kept on going she’d hit the Outlands before long. Kita shuddered at the thought. After her last escapade over there, there was no way she was going back there. She didn’t want to chance running into him.

The young lioness picked a particularly browned patch of grass to lay down in, an attempt to blend herself in with the terrain. She was in the mood to sit and watch, including the slow herds steadily munching away at the grasses.

Kita yawned slightly, flicking her tail to the side. From what she could tell so far, it seemed to be a relatively calm morning. [/color]

Dawn. In the Outlands, one young male had risen just before dawn to work on the trench. However, he couldn't ignore the sharp pains of hunger in his stomach. The thought of a decent meal was initially a passing fancy, but he decided to act upon it. Herds were often out early in the Pridelands, and certainly he could bring a kill back for the cubs, maybe Tana too.

As he reached the border, the sun was just rising. It was a beautiful view as he crested the hill, and Shadow couldn't resist taking it in for a moment. He didn't even mind those first rays on his dark pelt; it was always coldest just before dawn, and the sun didn't have much heat to it at first. It lifted his mood, and pushed back his concerns about his friendship with Nefi like clouds. Now if only he could get a sizable meal...

The adolescent wasn't too far from a herd of zebra. He lowered his dark form close to the ground, the silver tuft of mane on his chest nearly scrubbing the earth. Maybe if he could keep low enough, he wouldn't be spotted. It wasn't likely, though, with the sun pouring over the grassland. He hadn't slunk too close when some zebra spotted him and raised the alert. The herd moved off, and he stood up and walked off, only with some mild swearing, to plan his next move. At this rate, he'd be going hungry for a while longer yet.

  • The cold ground rumbled slightly beneath Kita’s body, a feeling that always made her glance at her paws. It wasn’t the most logical thing to do, but the lioness always loved to watch the little rocks around her clatter against the ground and go rolling around. That rarely happened, though. If the pebbles at her feet moved that much, the lioness knew she was definitely too close to the herd. Or too close to an elephant. Either, really.

The lioness eventually glanced up, her eyes taking in everything through vision littered and lined with grass stalks. A slight cloud of dust had risen to the side of her, and the thundering she felt now had an owner. A herd of zebra were in a headlong sprint, their distinct cries flittering through the air. Her closest ear flicked at the noise, but Kita wasn’t too surprised. She generally saw more than one herd move like this during the course of a day.

Curious, but still calm, the lioness waited for the slight cloud to completely clear before searching for the instigator. At first she didn’t find anything—as, of course, she searched for the yellowed pelt of a lioness. The first time she saw a glimmer of silver, she didn’t pay it much mind, quickly moving on to search these grasses.

It wasn’t until she heard the soft traces of speech and rustling that she glanced in that direction again. Not too far away, a familiar figure was walking through the grasslands—and not to discreetly, either.

Kita froze at first, not wanting to make any sound or be discovered by Shadow. It took her a moment to realize that she was still in the pridelands, and that technically she shouldn’t be even slightly scared at all…but what to say? A few misplaced words and this could easily turn into another nightmare. While she really didn’t want to be nice to this guy, she didn’t really have a choice, either.

She rose from her spot eventually, sitting up and yawning again. “Hey, outlander.” She called in his direction, before lightly adding, “The idea is to sneak up on them, and not scare them away.” She laughed, knowing fully well that he already knew this. Though she’d rather not talk to him altogether, she knew this would be better than if she’d said nothing at all.

((ooc: well I had this typed up from once before school went out when I thought I'd have a chance to get back on and post this. so I figured I wouldn't let it lay there and go to waste))

His mind was still tossing over how poorly that went. But a voice, a familiar voice, broke into his thoughts and stopped him dead. Of all the lionesses in the Pridelands he could run into, it had to be her. Not Indlela or any of Baku's family, not Kesi, and not even his rogue twin sister. Granted there were worse options, such as the royal family or Mohakizara. Still, he was now in a delicate situation and rather off guard.

The surprised expression was still on his face as he turned to look at her, knowing full well it would be Kitara. His dark ear flicked. She was being nice-ish...Strange. Seeing how guilty he was, the only reasonable reaction was to go along with it. Though the awkwardness of it sat in his stomach like a rock. "Yeah, well, try having dark fur," he responded light-heartedly. Seeing as she already knew he was there, Shadow headed her way cautiously. Given their last encounter, he preferred to keep a good bit of space between them still
