((The hyenas are often seen in caves in TLK. I assumed these caves would be inter-connected with the ones in the outlands. Linus is in a deeper level, and far away from their dens, so yeah, they shouldn't know he's there.)) Linus walked across the cavern. Geysers were about, spewing their steaming fumes into the earthy air. Some exploded so tall they almost got to the cave's invisible roof, lost in the blackness above. The boiling water rained down the sandy floor, dangerously. He continued on with his nonchalant pace. He was rather tranquil, but not distracted; his ears were sharp and alert for any unusual noise. Suddenly, a warm draft hit him. He didn't have to make an effort to localize the exit, which glowed blindingly in the dark and created some sort of spotlight several feet ahead. The hyena settled down, and placed the bone he was carrying on his mouth during all this travel on the floor, holding it skillfully with his forepaws as he began to chew on it. Finally, he could be alone, away from the hideous skulls and the smell of death. |

There was really no use trying to be a surprise. Sopuluchukwu was terrible at keeping quiet when he was excited. He giggled and snorted quietly, but in the deep cave it echoed off of the farthest walls and reach every ear within the vicinity clearly. And besides the sound, there was also the odor that was a clear warning. If anyone suddenly caught the smell of cheese in their nose, they were sure to be in the presence of Sopuluchukwu. And, to top it all off, he just couldn't keep still. Anyone who looked in his general direction, hiding behind a rock or not, would be sure to see his bouncing body. Sure, he was good at scouting, but when sneaking up on another hyena, he was a lost cause. Regardless, Sopuluchukwu, or "Scout," as everyone called him, still thought he had a good chance. He felt invisible and clever as he hid a distance behind the other hyena and watched greedily as he chewed on a bone. Even though he was crouched down to his belly, his restlessness couldn't stop him from fidgeting incessantly. Though he tried feebly to restrain it, he couldn't help the sudden chuckle every now and then. When he was pretty sure Linus was occupied by his bone, Scout crawled out of his hiding place and skulked toward him. He placed each paw in front of the other carefully, though even then his gait was still awkward and unsteady and every step could be heard quite easily. Then, when he was close enough, he pounced forward with his paws outstretched and his eyes on the bone. "Shwuaarggh!" |

Linus was disconnected from the world. He was having a lot of fun with that rib bone: he'd pick it up by one end and throw it into the air, trying to catch it by the other end, pouncing on it and holding it fast with his forepaws when he missed. He was amidst the spotlight now, making funny shadows on the floor with his bone acrobatics. Right then his sharp ears caught a sound -- a terrible laughter which reverberated through the cavern and made him jump and yelp in fright. His bone fell somewhere in the darkness with a subtle sound. The sound was becoming louder as time went by, and, annoyed, Linus already knew what it was; just another hyena, who wouldn't keep quiet. He already had suspects on who it might be. Angrily, he searched for his bone in the dark, but his eyes had just accustomed to the spotlight, so his search was fruitless until he almost tripped over it. He lay down again and began chewing on the bone. Something in the cave was starting to smell like cheese. He rolled his eyes and continued chewing. The hyena pawsteps were very loud now, but he decided ot ignore them. As if trying to relieve his stress, he bit it really hard until it cracked, then flung it over; it fell on a geyser and tumbled to the watery bottom of it. With weak interest, he turned in the general direction his bone had disappeared to, and at that same millisecond came flying Scout with his battle cry. Unimpressed, although the battle cry did manage to shake him a little, Linus showed him his empty paws. The geyser in the distance had begun burbling, and he calculated the bone would be back in three... two... |

In seeing Linus suddenly face him and reveal a boneless pair of paws, Scout dropped to the ground just short of crashing right into the other hyena. At that very moment, there was a second scream and something slammed into him from behind. This caused him to stumble over and fall flat on his face. He stayed in that odd position for a moment, everything from his chest up flat on the ground and his rump up in the air. He had on a goofy, almost insane, grin and his tongue lolled out of the side of his mouth as it always did. He finally got his upper half up on his paws and chuckled softly, as though this were all some kind of game. Scout didn't look back to see just who had bumped into him. His attention was suddenly stolen by low rumble accompanied by a bubbling sound. Just as he looked over, the geyser exploded, spewing green smoke high into the air until it crashed into the ceiling above. Scout's bloodshot eyes widened. There was the bone! It went flying out of the smoke and flipped in the air toward the ground. Scout scrambled about, pushing the other hyen's out of his way as he raced toward the flying bone. His gait was strange and several times it looked like he would fall over, but he kept going, his eyes locked on the target. Then, when it was close enough, the brown hyena leaped up and snatched the bone in his crooked jaws. He snickered with satisfaction as he descended, not even noticing the other geyser just below his feet. His paws managed to land on the circular rims of the hole, but he was far too slow witted to jump off in time to avoid another explosion. The high pressured green smoke threw the ragged hyena in the air as he screamed crazily, "Yeaaaaaahh!!" As he flew in one direction, the bone flew in another. |

Linus smirked victorious when Scout failed to obtain the bone. He thought he heard some more steps, but he didn't pay any attention to them until it was too late : his brain didn't quite register all the strange events that then occurred, seemingly all at the same time. First appeared Riza, stumbling over Scout and ending up sitting on his shoulder, leaving him pretty much immobilized; his older sister being a lot bigger and stronger than he was. He struggled to free himself from her weight but accomplished nothing. "Sister!" He yelped "Get off!" his fight for freedom became more intense when the geyser erupted with a great rumble, and the bone rocketed skywards. Scout then displayed his acrobatic abilities, shooting after the bone with his trademark ungracefulness, yet somehow practical and reliable, ungracefulness. He was a really unique guy; Linus shook his head slowly, with the displeased rugged nose of a sore loser-- But then, then-- Sopuluchuckwu then had an accident, he flew in one direction and the bone in another. If he was a different hyena, Linus would've been worried, but since it was him, well, he was having these kind of accidents all the time! So nothing to worry about here. The hyena finally managed to free himself from that great weight (or did she just move by herself?) and bolted after the bone with as much speed as his legs could give him before the brown hyena could recover. "No you won't!" He growled triumphant. |

[[OoC - "The Cave of Death" is an Ulaya addition to the TLK scenery, equivalent to Rafiki's Tree of Life. But...I've made a new area. I assume you meant the caves in "Be Prepared" where all the hyenas are, which is technically deep under the graveyard I believe. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.]] |

Riza pushed herself up and off of the bodies of the two hyenas piled beneath her, shaking her head slightly. She rolled over, attempting to prop herslef up, but therew as only one problem—the other two beside her were trying to do the exact same thing as her. They all tripped over each other, and Riza ended up landing in the dirt. “Okay, okay. I’m working on it!” She replied to Linus through a mouthful of dirt. Her ragged ears pinned to her head a second or two later. A geyser not too far away from her head exploded noisily, hissing harshly with its green breath. She sat up again, turning away and starting to run away from the running Scout. She could faintly see the outline of a bone flying through the air, toward the hyena. She didn’t pay it much mind, as she was more focused on continuning her little trek through the Chasm. But the dull white rib bone had other plans. Though Scout jumped up and tried to get it, he managed to send it flying right in her direction. It whirled through the air, twisting and turning until it hit Riza—right in the head. “Owch.” She growled, sticking up a paw to rub her head. |

Linus wasn't seeing where he was going. He was running at full speed, his head turned and looking up: the bone was high in the air. He didn't see her until it was too late -- Riza must have been only a foot or two away! He tried to stop, but his paws skidded over the smooth rock. Fortunately for her, he plunged a leg into a geyser before he could crash against her. He saw the bone hit on her sister's head and fall, only a few inches out of his reach. He tried to stretch his neck as much as it could go, but the bone was still too far. Then he tried reaching it with his tongue, maybe this would help... |

"Hey." Riza growled through clenched teeth. The dull throbbingstill coursed through her head, a constant reminder of the hyena's inability to move out of the way of flying objects. Especially old bones. "Watch it." She snarled over to Scout, who was also rubbing his face. She took a few angered steps backwards, her eyes flipping from the cringing Scout back to....wait. The hyena stuck out her neck slightly, straining to look for the bone responsible for her pain. "Where did it go?" She growled lowly, lumbering around and feeling the ground with her paws. She continued this blind search, trekking backwards ever so quickly. One of her back feet connected with something hard, something crunchy. It gave way easily under her step, sending a resounding crack through the chasm. "Aha!" Riza cried out, more so in pain than excitement. She whipped back around to find the bone--stepping on something warm in the process. "Agh!" She squealed, jumping away from what she didn't know to be Linus's tongue. |

What a dumb, dumb, dumb idea had that been! Linus growled in pain and attempted to both get his tongue fred from under Riza's paw and his foot out of that geiser. Fortunately for him, Riza lifted her paw just in time so that it would travel with him as the geiser erupted. The poof of green smoke sent him flying in an arc towards a pile of bones. Luckily, of all things he appeared to land on something soft -- Scout! |

"Ew! Ew! Ew!" Riza squealed as she jumped up and down on her front paw. The fur around her paw pads was slightly damp from the slobber that coated her brother's tongue--the one she'd unfortunately stepped on in her search for the bone. "Gross." She growled, closing her eyes a little bit and sticking out her tongue in disgust. Then, she remembered just what she'd stepped in. The tongue slipped back in. "Linus!" She growled, whipping around to look for the disappeared hyena. "Where did you...?" She trailed off, not making the connection that he'd been launched into the air by the geyser beside her. She really didn't notice him landing on the now-silent Scout. |

Even though he had stopped moving, the world continued to spin for Linus. He sat up and closed his yellow eyes tight, hoping that the world would make sense again when he opened them again... and it somewhat worked. He shook his head and got up, then noticing the poor hyena he head landed on, he muttered an apology. Just walking around made random stings of pain appear from all over his body, but Linus was strong and let none of it show. "I'm right here." He informed, and looking around he realized with sadness how he lost track of the bone's location. He sniffed at the ground with hopes of picking up its smell, but to no avail; nor could he differentiate the geyser besides which he had left it, so without further thoughts, he picked up a random tibia and began to throw it into the air and catch it just like before. |

Riza's eyes grew even wider in the low light. She stared at where Linus was, and then swiveled on the spot to look at the spot where he had just been. "How did you...?" She trailed off again, taking one paw and pointing at the area around the geyser, and then quickly back at where Linus stood. She went back and forth a few times, the connection still not clear at all. "Agh. Nevermind." She growled, waving a paw dismissively. Her eyes were still fixed on Linus, though. She watched carefully as he picked up a bone similar to the one she'd just broken. "Hey!" She said, walking over to Linus and pushing him out of the way to catch the bone. |

"Uff!" Linus was thrown back by her sister's mighty charge. A few bones from the pile flew and clacked against the rock floor. His sister had always been so much stronger than him! It was not fair! "Hey Scout! Help me take on the the crazy girl, will you?" He said in a low voice as he prepared to strike back, half hidden under a large ribcage, his legs coiled underneath him in preparation for the jump... Not caring whether or not his brown hyena friend was coming, Linus leaped from his hiding place with jaws agap ready to initiate a silly round of play-fighting like the ones he always hopelessly lost. |
