Capa's eyes widened at Maymee's words. He could not believe his ears! Could she be? Could she be the one that his parents talked about? The little sister Firo and Imara told him once he had, but went missing even before he was born? Capa's father and mother rarely spoke of his lost sister. It was a solemn topic and Capa learnt not to ask them about this missing sibling. He had wondered...could Maymee be her? She must be speaking the truth! She knows that Firo is the decoy King and only Pridelanders knew that. So it must be true! Capa's heart filled with a strange joy, he knew beyond doubt that his parents would be ecstatic if they knew Maymee was still alive. The lion cub opened his mouth to ask more questions, but without warning a giant paw swept through the little group of critters. The cave was so dark, Capa did not even sense the incoming paw. However, where he was hit by the paw, another force clamped around his back. Where was he going? And then, with a sunken feeling, he realised he wasn't being carried. He was being crushed. Did Missteri know her mouth was overbearing on the young cub? 'Stop it!!!' he screamed, his voice echoing loudly through the small cave. 'Stop! It hurts!!!' The jaws came down even harder. 'Please stop!!' Pit-pit found himself in the middle of the cave. His nut was gone, fully in his belly. Was there another one somewhere else? He began to nose around, stopping short when he bumped into Mira. 'Ouch,' he exclaimed, rubbing his head. That's when he felt the wind of a paw and the screams of a cub. The squirrel swayed in the spot. He placed his tiny hands on his ears and squeezed his eyes shut, trying to block out the terrible sound. |

Mira’s pale blue eyes turned from Capa to Maymee, a slight smile crossing her face. First, it was Maymee that smiled, the joy running through her was evident. Then, it was the little cub Capa’s turn to smile at the news. The baby goshawk couldn’t help but attempt to mimic their expressions. Happy voices and happy smiles was all it took to influence the bird’s emotions. She still had the same smile on her face when Pit-pit bumped into her, sending her fluttering forward. “Pit-pit!” She said, turning around to face the small squirrel. Before she could yell, (in a teasing way of course, she was in a good mood) a large, dark paw whooshed between her and the squirrel. She hopped back before Missteri could knock her over, but the gush of wind was almost enough in itself. It didn’t matter to the birdie, though. Missteri wasn’t doing it on purpose. She had just woken up, so of course she couldn’t have seen the two of them there. That was the reason, right? That’s what Mira told herslef as the leopard reached for the new addition to their family. Mira faintly heard Missteri’s warning through Capa’s first scream. The high-pitched, young voice sent Mira reeling backwards, pulling up her wings around her ears and face in an attempt to block out the sound\. “Capa! Don’t scream!” She squeaked, pleading in a soft voice. If Missteri warned him to behave and he hadn’t, then he deserved whatever punishment the leopardess would give him. That’s how Missteri always told her it would work, so why should this be any different? Just because he misbehaved didn’t mean mean that the rest of them had to suffer. |
