Missteri climbed the steep slopes, passing through deep trenches in the mountain side. Her knees ached, but would be fine after some rest. She had covered quite a stretch of land in such a short time so it was no wonder why her body suffered now. Plus, she was carrying an extra load, which was heavier than her previous package.

Arriving at her destination, the dark pantheress dropped Capa on the dirt, but held him in place while she rolled the massive boulder from it's original position. It revealed a large cavern. The young cub might have already suspected it, but, once they got inside, it was unlikely he would ever get out.

"We have a guest, little ones," the pantheress said kindly, after entering and dropping the Pridelander cub on the cave floor, "Mind your manners." Unlike the others, Missteri didn't intend on keeping Capa. For how long depended on the pantheress, but she liked to torture her victims before finishing them off.

An adolescent sandcat creeped out of the shadows.
"Jeez," she whispered to her companions, as the elder feline closed the "door", "The old bat could, at least, acknowledge that we're not babies anymore. Not all of us anyways." She chuckled, playfully nudging the young squirrel with her paw.

She didn't like her size being used to undermine her maturity. This experience, being captured and living in what was basically a prison, had made Maymee grow considerably. She was no longer a little, timid kitten. Now, she was an thoughtful, caring leader and friend to anyone who had fallen into one of Missteri's traps.

Mira lifted up her head-- ever so slightly-- as the groaning, heavy boulder was smoothly pushed to the side. Although as soon as Missteri entered her lair, she whipped back and quickly repositioned the rock, locking the group of children inside and depositing one extra…lion cub? What was she planning on doing with that?

Black pupils filled her too-pale eyes, attempting to gather in what little extra light that managed to worm and wiggle in, as hardly any light existed in their cavern. She rustled her slightly unkept feathers and rose to her too-long, spindly legs. Her head tilted to the side, glancing over at the joking, but slightly annoyed sandcat.

She wobbily hopped over to Maymee’s side, making sure to be at least one of the cat’s paw-lengths away. Hey, better safe than sorry. As far as she knew, all of the creatures in here had claws, excluding her. Even Pit-pit had his own set. All she had was…talons.

Mira sidestepped out of Pit-pit’s way as soon as she noticed him right by Maymee’s paw. Her mind flickered; she looked over at the old pantheress. “Hello, Missteri.” She said with a little perk in her voice. One that was nice. Friendly. Real.

Mira waited for a few seconds, waiting for a response from Missteri. She checked over her shoulder to make sure that the leopard was absorbed in her own little world and not listening to her any longer.

“May—mee?” She asked in a soft, genuine voice. “Why…” She paused, thinking. “Why do you hate her so much?”

He had long stopped his struggles to break free. It was useless and he was tired. The tears had long stopped too. He felt there weren't any tears left in him and he tried to block out the thoughts of Imara, Firo, Ibura, Tai and Binti. Thinking about them only made his small heart ache more. Capa hung limply from the pantheress' mouth. The teeth that held him were sharp. Although it was not painful, it was firm and not gentle. Not like how his mother had held him tenderly between her teeth. Capa frowned and concentrated on the path they took instead of thinking of his mother, just in case he did escape and he could find his way back. But just as he thought he knew where he was, the older feline would turn and Capa would loose his bearings.

He didn't know how long it took but at last, she dropped him onto the ground. Capa's heart filled with a moment of hope as he thought about dashing away. But just as he had the thought, the pantheress had a paw on his back and the chance was gone. Soon he found himself in a dark cavern and his cubnapper was speaking in soft tones to...creatures inside? Capa's ears flattened and he squirmed back in fear. What new horror laid in front of him?

Pit-pit was in one of the corners of the cave. The furthest one in fact, and the darkest of them all. He was scratching at the walls. An instinct to sharpen his claws? Something to do to pass time? He wasn't sure, but he was seized by this compulsion to do so. He would have kept on scratching were it not for the sounds coming from the big boulder that was the cave entrance.

Pit-pit's head swiveled around in a flash. He scrambled and zig-zagged his way over to the entrance. The tiny squirrel turned around and blinked at Maymee and Mira, his companions. Then turned back towards the boulder. It opened and Pit-pit jumped up onto a small rock and craned his neck up to look at the outside. His eyes widened even further as he took in the stars, the swaying trees, the grass, the pebbles on the ground - and the boulder was shut.

The squirrel threw up his short arms and put them down again, scrambling around Mira first, then towards Maymee. Again the thought that he found comfort with the young sandcat made his mind explode in extremely bizarre ways. In the natural world, Pit-pit would be running for his life away from a sandcat. Yet he was drawn to Maymee. Though his fur never stopped standing on end whenever he was around her. As Maymee nudged him, Pit-pit froze and shivered. Then he flopped on top of the sandcat's paw and eyed the frightened new member of their siblinghood his 'mother' had just brought in.

She chuckled at the bird and squirrel, having no intention of ever harming either of them in her lifetime. The relationships that had formed here were odd, but priceless nonetheless. They were probably the only thing she was grateful to Missteri for. If all of this hadn't happened, she would have never met her strange posse of friends.

The young sandcat tried to get a better look at the newcomer. Guess the old biddy found another one...poor little guy. He must be terrified. Maymee tried catch the lion cub's eye and give him a gentle smile, though there was hardly anything to smile about. Still, he'd be safe, for the most part, with them. She'd look out for him, like she did for the others.

"Hi Mira, my dear," the giant feline cooed to the chirper, "remember to call me Mommy or Ma'am from now on, okay? Don't like repeating myself." It made the pantheress very happy that her baby birdie has adjusted so well, unlike the rest of the litter. She was Misster's newest catch, Capa excluded of course, so some slip-ups were expected. As long as they were respectful and minded her, all would usually go well. However, her patient had boundaries and they WOULD learn the rules by any means necessary.

Missteri glared down at the arrival she had just brought in, snatching him by the scruff then plopping him closer to the group. He wouldn't receive the same loving care the others had; he didn't deserve it.
"Behave yourself," she hissed coldly to him, but her aura changed entirely when addressing her main treasure, "Cynthia, darling. Keep an eye on him."

"Yeah..."

"Yes?" The elder feline cut off her sentence, a hint of agitation building in her irisies.

"Yes, ma'am. I will," Maymee answered in a sincere tone, nodding her tan head. She hope that was polite enough.

"Good girl," she praised, giving the sandcat a lick in reward, "I'll have none of that slang in my presence. Always speak properly, my little ones." She yawned, remembering her long journey. "Now, my loves, Mommy is going to rest. Will be up later to go hunt and bring you all treaties."
As she passed them by, Missteri pulled the Mira and the boys, except for Capa, into a rough hug, gave them a couple adoring licks, then left for a nap.

(Missteri leaves - in the back sleeping)

She rolled her eyes; the bright golds followed their "mother" until she was out of sight. Maymee then looked at Mira, exhaustion on her face because of that question. She had to be lenient with her, though. The goshawk was very young still and didn't remember her birth parents. Very sad, and thus proving how reckless their captor was.

"I told you already," she whispered, waiting for the snoring to begin before speaking louder, "I'm not her daughter. She stole me from my home, all of us. None of us actually belong here, not to her. I have a home far away from here and someone who loves me that doesn't lock me in a cave, days at a time, " a pause, "...at least, I hope he still does..."

She started thinking of Firo, wondering if he still was searching or waiting for her to return. He had to be. What else would be keeping him from looking for her? If not, if there was something keeping him away, she'd go to him then. It didn't matter. She'd fine a way to get back to him, no matter what.

Maymee turned her attention to the new cub. "Hello there," she greeted him kindly, carefully approaching the little male, "What's your name?"

As the boulder shifted, two yellow orbs opened wide amid the dark shadows towards the rear of the cave. Somehow he had managed to nap with Pit-pit clawing the wall near him. With all the time spent in the cave with the squirrel, his predatory instincts were completely suppressed now. He stretched his striped form while Missteri entered, and then lept down off of a rock he had been sleeping on. Aside from the crazy old pantheress, he was the oldest and largest of the 'family'. "Some of us she never met as babies," he muttered in reply to the sandcat. Gwagu was pratically grown when he was 'rescued' from an eagle attack and taken here to be 'cared for better'. Scars in his pelt echoed of the incident that landed him here.

He craned his neck back to look at Missteri's face as she spoke to them. While he had a few retorts to make in response to her correcting Maymee's speech, he held his tongue for the better. All in all, he tried to act content in their captor's presence. And then she licked them. Everything in his being wanted to scream and flee at this, but he kept control at the unfortunate affection. Being a small cat and being so close to a bigger predator's mouth made him about as uncomfortable as Pit-pit and Mira were nearly all the time. Glancing back to make sure the old bat was sleeping, he gave his coat a rough shake and started trying to wipe any of her saliva out of it. "Since when is treaties proper language?" Now that she couldn't hear him, he had no problem saying it out loud.

The tom approached the cub who had been deposited on the floor. "You okay, kid?" It was untelling what their 'mother' had done to get him...or to him. His deep voice had even been somewhat sympathetic. The wildcat just hoped the lion cub wouldn't be a problem in their plans. In the back of his mind, he was rather hoping this cub had parents to come get him. The black leopardess that had imprisoned them had almost turned him against bigger felines, but he still had some hope for them.

ooc: made some assumptions about appearances. Please tell me if you want them amended!

Capa tensed up completely as the pantheress picked him again once more. The next time he dropped to the ground (and not to gently either), he was face to face with a bunch of...oddballs. There was no other word for it. A young sandcat, looking slightly worse for wear. Her fur, had it been in normal circumstance would have been shining and glistening, but it was dull and unkempt. He noticed a bird. Was it a bird? It was definitely too tiny to be one. Though Capa saw the unmistakable form of her wings. Then there was a tom. Larger than the others, but like the sandcat, did not look to be in very good shape. And finally, had he not moved, Capa would never have seen the small squirrel on the sandcat's paw. Oddballs indeed!

The golden cub had an insane desire to laugh, but he kept it in. He watched as his captor licked them all in turn, and noted the disgusted faces on the oddballs. Who were they? Were they the pantheress'.....children?? As the black feline retreated to the back of the cave, Capa shrunk into the shadows as the oddballs addressed him.

'I...I'm... Capa,' he said, his voice higher than he intended it to be. He swallowed nervously, not sure what to make of all these strangers. 'W-where am I-I? Who-o are you?'

Pit-pit's whiskers stood on end as Missteri came over to give him a lick. His eyes were wide with horror, though he put out his arms and tried to hug her tongue. Yet he was too slow. And then she was gone, to nap in the depth of the caves. The squirrel scrambled back to Maymee's paw.

Pit-pit tried very hard. Oh he tried very hard to stay on top of her paw. As she walked, the squirrel tried to curl up on top of it so he would be carried over with each step. But he fell off and he reached up his small arms and waited to sync with the sandcat's stride so that he could prop himself back onto her paw again. Soon Maymee stopped, and he zig-zagged his way to Gwagu. 'Gwaaa. Gwaaaaa,' he squeaked. 'Nnnuts. Gwaaa.' Pit-pit was hungry and he wanted to tell someone. Before he waited for an answer, the squirrel turned around and stared blankly at the new cub. His nose twitched. Great, another squirrel-eating killing machine.

Mira glanced down at her spread-out feet after Missteri spoke, not quite sure what to say in response. “Yes…ma’am.” She said quickly. Her eyes gradually rose back up to a bird’s normal eye level—or about Missteri and Maymee’s legs. They were so long—so powerful looking, much unlike her own two toothpicks. She stared ahead uselessly, letting her mind dull and drift off a little bit, almost like a daydream. She was so transfixed on her thoughts, or lack of, that she didn’t notice Missteri swoop down.

As the giant pantheress reached forwards with a giant, turned-inward paw, a thought ripped across her idle mind—gentle at first, but then increasing with intensity.

She’s too close…Too close. Too CLOSE! She thought, faintly flapping her wings in resistance to her ‘embrace.’ She clenched her eyes closed instantly, pulling her head as far away as she could manage. All she got in response of her struggles was a rough, wet lick on her head. It sent small goosebumps raising up along her spine.

“Ahh…” She said, letting a tiny taste of her displeasure surface. Thanks to Missteri’s slight pur, though, her squeak was muffled.

As soon as Missteri let go of her group hug, Mira hopped away from her as quickly as she could, still breathing a little heavily. Too close. She was too close. She thought, madly preening her feathers for a few moments. Then, she paused, looked around, and realized that she was all alone in her dark little area. She glanced back over at the group, who were for the most part circled around the newcomer.

Too far. Now I’m too far away. She though, hesitantly making her way back to the group just in time for Maymee’s answer to her question.

“Oh…” She said, remembering Maymee’s story, but still not completely understanding. “But…she says…she says that she loves us…” She said softly, confused. She’s only ever been nice to me...

(Ooc: Sounds good. Very in depth description. Hadn't thought about how she'd look physically, but it makes sense. ))

She had to suppress her laugh from the tom's sarcasm.
"Well, you know her," Maymee said, then, in a mock Missteri voice, "Do as I say not as I do, darlings. The rules are for you to follow and for me to make up as I go along." The sandcat giggled then sighed. The old leopard was so unpredictable. It was tiresome and sometimes Maymee wondered if it was all just an act. Could anyone really be that crazy? She would have been more sure that it wasn't possible, if not for her present circumstances.

"Actions speak louder than words," the teenage feline bluntly replied, to the young goshawk.

"Well, Capa, we're in the Kilimanjaro Range," she informed him, remembering from when she had asked the older wildcat. Maymee had no idea where they were when she first arrived either, but Gwagu lived in the area or, at least, in the basic territory. Same with Mira, though she wouldn't be much help in the escape itself. Her being able to fly would have given them a huge advantage, but oh well. As long as they left this horrible place, together, that's all that mattered.

"My name's Maymee, but Missteri calls me Cynthia," she clarified, next introducing her companions, 'This is Gwagu and that's Pit-Pit and Mira. We were captured just like you." A familiar smell was coming off of Capa, but she couldn't identify it.

He stared down at the young squirrel. Missteri said she would bring food later, so was there any left? His big yellow eyes flitted around the cave as he tried to pick up the smell of any nuts that might be left. "...Maymee, are there any nuts left for Pit-pit?" If they were out of food for the little guy, he'd attempt sweet talking their captor into bringing extra when she went out. But his nose twitched at the scent he was looking for, and he discovered a nut lodged in a crevace nearby. Using his paw he rolled it towards Pit-pit.

The wildcat tom nodded at what Maymee said. "We're not too far from the Uhai Cavern, if I'm right." He noticed the scent coming from the cub too. Something about it reminded him of the sandcat when he first met her. But he had never went as far as the Pridelands, so the smell wasn't particularly familiar. But if there was anything recognizable to Maymee, she hadn't reacted to it. Perhaps it wasn't as close as he recalled.

But something hadn't failed to pass Gwagu by. The demented pantheress wasn't so particularly doting with him like she had been with the rest of them. It struck him as unusual. Not only that, it looked quite worrisome for the cub. "So what happened to you, Capa? Do you have parents or a pride to come find you?" The thought of how hard it would be for the black feline to pick up a young cub from a pride made things seem off somehow. Then again, the sandcat had been lifted from a pride of lions. He hoped the young fellow had someone to come get him...and maybe help them too.

ooc: Maymee's thoughts on Firo are very touching :)

Capa continued to shrink slowly back against the wall until he found he could do it no more. He was well and truly trapped in a cave with a psychotic pantheress and a bunch of misfits. However, as the youngsters spoke, he became to grow less frightened. They were just like him then, forced away from their families. Yet, it didn't improve his situation much. Capa's eyes were still wide with shock. The cave was so dark, even darker than the den back at Priderock. He could not see much further than the others a few paces before him. He definitely could not see where this Missteri was.

'W-why would s-she capture us?' he said, which surprisingly came out as a weak squeak. Capa eyed the small squirrel and bird curiously. Surely, Missteri would simply eat these two critters? What was going on here?

'Yes, I do have a pride,' he said and he puffed himself a little bigger at the mention of something familiar. 'I live in the Pridelands. And there are a whole bunch of lions there that will miss me. They will come for sure. My father will come. Maybe he will be able to free you all too.' A tear formed at the corners of his eyes. Capa shook his head and blocked out the image of Firo, Imara and Ibura. It made him feel pain he would never have imagined.

Pit-pit heard the nut before he saw it. His nose twitched wildly and he pounced clumsily towards the nut Gwagu rolled towards him. The young squirrel missed his judgement at the first attempt, something which would never have happened if he was raised properly by his own kind. His second attempt was a little better but as Pit-pit leapt onto the nut, it squeezed away from under him, making the squirrel scramble after it. Finally he had it in his mouth and he went to sit beside Mira. He took a bite of it. Paused, then held it out to Mira. 'Nuutt for Mira?' he squeaked, secretly hoping she'd refuse.

ooc: -runs off to look up what goshawks eat-
Still testing out colors for Mira..

"Actions speak louder than words,"
Maymee said. Mira deflated a little bit inside. She, for one, didn’t mind the old pantheress. She shrugged, then responded with a soft, “Yeah, I guess.” The little goshawk then turned away from the sandcat, hopping over to the scurrying red squirrel.

She giggled a little bit as Pit-pit furiously scrambled over to the nut Gwagu so easily rolled over. She watched him dive—and miss—and dive again. Something about it was slightly funny to her, lifting up her so-so mood to a happy mood.

“Nuutt for Mira?'
“Umm…” Mira questioned, eyeing the bit-into nut carefully. She could honestly say she hadn’t tried one of these before. They were always in short supply, it seemed, and the squirrel was never too willing to share before.

“Sure!” She said, stepping a step closer. Cautiously, she pecked her small beak into the nut, grabbing it and lifting it into the air for a moment. She pecked again, holding it down with one of her claws. Ehh. Not too tasty. “Thanks, Pit-pit.” She said cheerfully, before sliding it back over to the squirrel. “You can have the rest.” Mira said, nodding.

"...Maymee, are there any nuts left for Pit-pit?"
She looked around, doubting there would be. Luckily, he found one, giving it to the little squirrel, then replied with a more accurate description of their location to Capa.

"For different reasons that make no sense," she admitted, answering the cub's next question, "I'm apparently her birth daughter though it's highly unlikely." Maymee would probably deny it if it was true anyways. She figured the others might want to speak for themselves and didn't say their stories.

Capa was sniffling now, crying. Maymee walked over to him, curling around his body as best as she could to comfort the poor young lion.
Wait! He had just said he was from the Pridelands!
"You're from the Pridelands!?" she asked loudly, knowing the answer, but jumping up back onto her feet in surprise, "So am I! Whose your father?! Were the others following when you left?" She forgot to lower her voice in her excitement. They would come for him, probably on their way now! This nightmare might almost be over.

The pecking at and scraping of the nut across the stone was annoying, but she ignored it, silently awaiting for Capa's response with intensity.

Pit-pit nearly cried when Mira accepted his offer of the nut. To handle the dismay, the squirrel began twitching his nose, right until the bird returned the nut back to, as Pit-pit thought, its rightful owner. The little critter snatched it back, ran a few paces, and stuck out his tongue at Mira, before nibbling on its top. He kept his ear opened at the conversation, but did not really give a fig about its content. 'Cap - a. Cap - a,' he squeaked, testing the name. Good, he could say it. The lion was probably going to stick along for a while, might as well learn the name now.

Capa sniffed. 'S-she's your m-mother?' the lion cried in disbelief. It was hard to think that any mother could treat their cub like that. Maybe life beyond the Pridelands was weird. The cub flinched as Maymee came over to comfort him. But at contact with her small body, he couldn't help but feel a little relieved. For some reason, the sandcat gave him hope, a small source of joy in a place like this. Little did Capa know, he was not the first lion to find the sandcat a comforting presence.

Capa stared wide at Maymee as she spoke again. The excitement in her voice was unmistakable. It caught the Pridelander cub off guard. 'Um, you were from the Pridelands too? But how, your mother...?' he drifted off, wondering then whether Missteri was also a Pridelander. 'My father? He's the strongest of them all, he is!' Capa exclaimed, catching Maymee's excitment. He looked around at the tom, at the small bird and at the squirrel a little way behind the others. 'He's the King of the Pridelands and he'll come look for me for sure!' Capa couldn't help but pause for effect. Speaking about his father always made him feel proud. 'His name is Firo.'

Up until now, Mira hadn’t really been listening to the new lion cub. It wasn’t that she forgot to acknowlege his presence---she had. She looked at him, after all. The little bird thought she said her hellos…but then again, growing up in this place didn’t help at all with handling social situations—mostly because there wasn’t anyone new to be ‘social’ with. So, her skills in this area were slightly…lacking.

Mira hopped back over to the new cub, swiveling and turning her entire head and body in an attempt to get a better look at him.

“Firo?” She squeaked, even before Maymee had a chance to process the information. “Maymee, is that your Firo?”
