A large lion stood in the middle of a small hill, his figure clearly visible to those miles away. The golden lion shook his thick mane and surveyed the lands below him. Outsiders who saw him would slink away, young males looking to claim a pride would turn and target another pride, for it was obvious that whoever ruled this territory was still young and fit. But the truth was, the lion on the hill was not the monarch. He was the friend of a King, support for the Queen and a role model for the prince. To say the least, he was an imposter. But he knew it was a job that was important. It was important to have a leader, even if it was a fake one. Firo ducked his head down now, looking behind him. Now where were they? The spotted lion had promised the cubs to take them on one of his patrols. Why they wanted to come was beyond him. He had told them many times it was boring. So boring he sometimes would flop down in exhaustion (out of boredom) and fall asleep. But they had insisted and Firo thought it appropriate to bring them today. He had only patrolled a few days earlier and everything was well. Queen Amina had to agree of course, so Firo now found himself nearing the end of one of his routine walks in the late afternoon with the cubs no where to be seen. How did the small ones find a place to hide on the hills? This new generation will grow up to be strong, Firo knew. They were bright and full of energy. If only Chion was here to see them.. |

Amina padded in on the scene, deciding to see how the patrol was going. Particularly, how Firo was doing with all the cubs. It wasn't usual that the males babysat. But, since the youngsters wanted to see this kingly duty, it was hard to say no. Besides, this was probably one of the safer responsibilities he had. It was better that they be shown and were interested in this rather than another not so safe task. The brown lioness grew a little concerned when she saw only two cubs within sight, but maybe it was just a game they all were playing. "How's it going, Father Firo," she joked, approaching the large male, "Guess you know now how it feels to be Baku." She chuckled a little, but then remembered that the other male had not been so carefree and jolly as before. The death of his mate was such a tragic blow, to him as well the entire pride. Kazana was a veteran among the Pridelanders. The treaty was highly influenced by her, too. However, she lost her life before the newest batch of cubs was born, leaving family and friends to morn and cherish her great memory. Amina made a memo to herself that she should somehow see how Nightshade was doing. News had reached her that Shadowalker had died as well. Times were so sad for everyone, but they couldn't stay that way. Shouldn't stay that way. They had to get better, for their future. She looked at the cubs, smiling warmly at her son. |

Well, this was unusual. Kitara couldn’t remember the last time she had been this…social with the other younger members of her pride. Though she had not actually talked to anyone yet, she couldn’t remember if she had ever even been this friendly before. Or ever had any intentions of being this…nice. What a strange day indeed. Not young enough to still be considered a cub, yet not old enough to be considered a full adolescent either, the young lioness was caught in the middle. Kita was not sure IF she would be welcomed on this patrol, but, as she had not been that far away from Pride Rock there was a certain curiosity that tugged at her. She wanted to see this kingdom of theirs. This gangly cub paused and watched intently as Amina strolled up to Frio. They talked for a moment or two, then- there it was. Kita’s eyes narrowed and a pinch of sadness panged at her heart. That SMILE...the one that was only directed at the cub in front of her, the prince Tai. Not her. It was never for her. After all, she was just another lioness, nothing too special in the queen’s eyes. It only made sense that she wouldn’t even get a second look from her. Her dislike, or jealousy, for Tai and Amina had just increased ever so slightly….. Kita sighed, then glanced back over her shoulder, interested in whether or not there would be any other cubs joining her. |

Capa was, as usual, stalking Tai from behind. The golden cub knew his friend knew that he was there. But he did it anyway. At the last small crest, he flattened his ears, barred his teeth and jumped on top of the prince. 'Gotcha!' he yelled, and rolled over a bit. But he saw his father standing on atop the hill and decided to go see what he was up to now. Capa bounced over to Kita. He did not know her that well, but he was in a jolly mood today. He loved joining Firo on his patrols. And now that his friends were here, he can show off just how great his father was. The cub yanked her tail from behind and grinned mischievously, before walking through Amina's legs. 'Good afternoon Queen Amina!' Firo looked over towards the bubbling cubs from his hill. Such furballs. He smiled at Amina. 'Yes, now I understand how poor Baku feels like.' Firo took care not to mention Kazana. 'Keeping an eye on all these balls of fluffs isn't an easy job. I really should offer him a paw some day. Maybe.' He added, grinning slyly. Firo looked around the plains, then saw Kita looking back behind her. 'You alright there, Kita? Hope my son isn't annoying you too much.' He knew Kita was older than the other cubs. He wanted to know whether she would rather be treated as one of them, or as an adolescent. ooc: sorry not a very good post. and Capa is zomg too full of energy. |

That's more like it. Young faces began popping up like moles from everywhere. At least, they were all nearby. Amina chuckled then looked as one of them passed under her. "Good afternoon to you, too, Capa," she replied, smiling at Firo's son. It felt a little strange that the two best friends had mates and each couple was having cubs of their own. Time flew by so quickly; so much had changed so fast. The king's attention turned to Kita, alerting the queen from her thoughts. She had taken the "are you alright" too literally, jumping to conclusions. With the plague still around, any behavior that seemed unusual made Amina feel extra cautious. She awaited Kita's response, focus intent on her face as she watched the young female. Amina hoped her assumption was wrong. |

Kita’s happy mood had vanished, and no thanks to either Tai or Amina. Still staring back, she noticed the young wannabe-prince pounce on the real prince Tai. Heh, serves him right. She thought, turning back to the two adults and paying no attention to Capa anymore. It gave him just enough time to sneak up on her. Unexpectedly, a row of sharp teeth dug into her tail. “Owch.” She growled sharply, turning and yanking her tail out of the cub’s mouth. At the same time, she cuffed Capa over the head with one of her paws, making sure at the last second to keep her claws in. She didn’t want to get in trouble with Frio standing right there. With her, though, even sheathing her claws could be difficult. The young lioness was beginning to realize that they didn’t always retract when she wanted them too. Looks like I got lucky, She thought, wondering how Frio would have responded if Capa had four new scratches across his face. Kita glared over at the cub, who had already bounded over to her. Queen Amina. At the sound of Frio’s voice, Kita turned her attention over to him. “I’m great.” She said, plastering on a cheezy grin and flicking her tail to the side. What does he mean, ‘are you alright?’ She thought, pupils narrowing a little. Do I look like I can’t handle ‘playing’ with a little cub? Wait, does he think I’m sick or something? Do I evenlook that sick? She didn’t answer the latter part of the question. ooc: Haha, Capa makes me smile. He's so...easily entertained unlike Kita. She's...not amused. |

ooc: hahhaa. yes he is a bubbly cub now, but i'm planning to make a drastic transition with him. And that's all i'm going to say about it :) Capa jumped back in alarm at Kita's reaction to him. His ears flattened and he was dejected for a second a two. But decided annoying Kita would be more fun than pouncing on Tai. So the cub made a wide circle to move around Kita, crouched low and with a nasty grin on his face, circling his prey. He knew that Kita would be able to reach him with one pounce, but it didn't matter. Capa thought he was fast enough, at least. Firo nodded at Kita's reply. There was something in the her mind. But Firo was not one to pry. If Kita wanted to share, she would share. So the 'King' continued his walk along the small crests. His patrol would be at an end soon. 'Amina,' he said, moving to walk beside her. 'The Outlands had been rather quite lately. I'm beginning to worry. I fear there is much happening there that we do not know about.' With the depletion of numbers in the Pridelands, they were extremely vulnerable to any attack. They knew the Outlands were hit by the plague too, but the extent of which they would never know unless one of them went in to observe them. But was that wise? |

There was another cub in the group. Ibura had became distracted by a grasshopper and went about stalking her mock prey as the boys went ahead. But the grasshopper had managed to elude her paws several times and make its final escape. She had gotten frustrated with it, and began to look for where her brother and the prince had went. It didn't take long before she could hear Capa up ahead as he greeted Amina and her response. Within a minute she could see him circling Kita through the grasses ahead. Her blue eyes locked onto her target, counting down in her head. Three. Two. One. And pounce! The spotted cub knocked right into Capa, which sent them both rolling a short ways. When they had stopped, Ibura was sitting on her sibling's belly with her dark paw on his face. "Hi, Queen Amina," she called out from where she was. |

She sighed with relief then gave Kita a pleasant nod and greeting. The queen had been really tense and it wouldn't let up anytime soon. There was so much to do and more was being added each day. The lands needed to be cleared and cleaned so they all could live more comfortably again. This and other concerns ran through her mind constantly. Amina chuckled at Ibura, giving another 'good afternoon' in reply. Turning back to Firo when he spoke, she listened quietly. It was a hope of hers that the plague had discouraged attack from anywhere. It seemed to have arrived from far away lands so maybe even their distant enemies were affected. Not to say it was a good thing, but less of a reason for fighting was also a plus. Just then another thought hit her heart hard, but she pushed it back in the depths of her mind. She couldn't think like that... "You could be right," she said, voice a little shaky, "I would like to think otherwise, but maybe Lainika has other plans. On one of Meesha's trips over, one of us should go as well, with some back up, of course in case. Besides, it really is a lot of work for her to do alone." Amina wanted to secure the arrangement between the prides as much as possible, showing that war was not necessary. They all could each live in peace, even if they couldn't live together. |

Aggravated, the lioness dropped into a low crouch. Her butt stuck up in the air, and her tail whipped to the side. Before she realized it, her black claw had popped back out of her paws. A devilish smile parted her lips. This was going to be fun. She waited for the smaller cub to make his move and pounce on her, all the while watching his every move. So focused on this, Kita didn’t see Ibura creeping up behind him. After that, there was nothing for her to do. She had tackled Capa to the ground and was sitting on his chest before Kita got a chance to sink her paws into him. It was too bad. He really had been going to get the pouncing of his life. Disappointed, she turned back to Queen Amina and Frio. Kita graciously accepted the greeting, glad for any attention. Though at the same time a flag of caution flew up in her head. This wasn’t like her, to be talking to so many people. Doing so many things. And just now, with her playing with Capa. What was that? What if they jumped to conclusions, thinking that something was wrong with her? No. They wouldn’t. No one was paying attention to the cubs anyways. The queen and Frio were busy with their conversation. As the patrol went on, it would be only an occasional glance in their direction to make sure everyone was doing alright. She would be safe to have a little fun today. There was nothing wrong with some excitement, right? |

Capa cried out as his sister tumbled him over the ground. His back landed in a particularly spikey thorn and his eyes started to water. 'Get off!' he called out playfully. 'Wait till mum hear's about this!' The golden cub pushed Ibura off, spun around in circles to try and see whether the thorn was still in his back, then pounced on her again, yanking her ear down towards the ground. Capa let her go and jumped backwards, wanting to avoid any nasties that Ibura might throw on him. But he started in alarm as he realised he had backed into Kita. His ears flattened once more and he crouched defensively, ready to bolt if she decided to make him a pancake. Firo thought carefully through what Amina was saying. 'Yes, you're right,' Firo said. 'Perhaps I'll send in Vivu. He would know the comings and goings of the Outlands well. Do you think I should accompany them? Should my presence be aggravating, I would hate to start another war.' Personally, the 'King' was itching to travel to the Outlands, to put an end to his questions and see the state of their enemy for himself. Had they changed? Or were they just as cold and unforgiving? Firo lookd at the cubs rolling around behind him. Would the new generation from both sides grow up to be enemies just as they had done? |

Matojo huffed and puffed as he scrambled up the hill behind the others. It hadn't looked so steep when they were approaching it, but now it was more of a mountain, where the summit seemed insurmountable. This was the first time he had really been permitted so far away from the den, and certainly the first time he had ever ventured so far into the Pridelands, and though he was quickly growing weary, he was determined to keep up. That was easier said than done, however. He had never realized the grasses were quite so tall, and he occasionally had to hop upward, or rest back on his haunches to peer up over them so he could see where everyone else was. Matojo had also never realized just how long his father's legs were, or how fast the other cubs could be. As unaccustomed as he was to romping and exploring, it was all too easy for him to get left behind. At least going down the hill on the other side would be easier. Much easier. So intent was he on catching up that Matojo didn't realize he had crested the hill, barreled right over the top of it, and started down the other side until he tripped. He landed in the grass with an oomph and immediately went tumbling head over tail, gaining speed as he rolled down the hill. His impromptu method of travel was stopped only when he ran into something about halfway down the hill. He wasn't sure who or what he had run into, but it or they had left him sprawled out on his back, staring up at the sky. The sky, which would be such a pretty shade of blue if only it would stop spinning... (OOC: Anyone is free to be Matojo's stopping point if they'd like to. ;) ) |

The young Kita’s ears flattened against her head. Yet another annoying furball had tumbled down the hill and ran into her. This sent the lioness sprawling forward onto her lighter tummy, and, predictably, right onto Capa’s side. Kita couldn’t say she was sad about that particular part, though. She was just thinking about turning that cub into a fuzzy pancake. She managed to squeak out a quick half-laugh as she pushed herself off the squirming Capa’s form and sat down. “Sorry about that.” She said, beginning to return to a strangely good mood. One of her back feet reached forwards and scratched her crazily itchy ear. She grinned slightly, glad that she had been able to get him after all, and without being blamed for it. “Someone ran into me, I swear.” She said with innocent eyes, her voice sweet. Her tail flicked back at the cub behind her. Kita had caught a glimpse of him right after he had ran into her. She snuck another glance behind her. “Watch where you’re going.” She said, though her voice was not so light and carefree this time around. She didn’t bother to ask whether the little guy was okay or not. That wasn’t her problem. |

ooc: welcome to the family Subira :) Capa yelped loudly as something slammed into Kita and subsequently pancaked him flat. He wriggled wildly, paws flailing to push Kita off. But she was just that much heavier than him and he all but failed. He caught a glimpse of grey fur and thought he knew who had rolled into Kita. Eventually, the older cub got up and Capa sprang to his feet, alert and ready to toss himself into the female. But upon seeing Kita sit down, Capa's ears flattened in disappointment. He lifted them again when Kita gave her explanation. 'Those eyes don't work on me!' the golden cub said, smirking. 'Girls are such goodies-goodies.' He rolled his eyes and smiled. Capa dashed to Matojo's side and nudged him playfully. 'Who said he has to watch where he's going. Maybe you were just in his way,' the golden cub said, sticking up for his brother. Capa hoped he and Kita can have a tussle. This would settle it once and for all, even though she was slightly older than he was. Besides, his father was here. Maybe Capa can show just how tough he is, or is not. |
