Gray. That was the look and feel of this land. The ground and even the sky seemed to fade the closer anyone got to its center. Once upon a time, it might have been holy to elephants. Now, it was desecrated and constantly disturbed by an assortment of creatures seeking to feed on the remains of the weak or deceased. Steam filled the air and ash covered the base. Far from a desirable place to live, but so was the fate of whoever was enemy to the lions living at Pride Rock.

Not much had changed for the Graveyard's inhabitants. The outside world sometimes came to resemble theirs, but would return to a gorgeous and plentiful existence once more. A life they barely got to feel, taste, or smell. By some cruel trick of nature a long time ago, it was decided that this should be their destiny. That they should be forced to sleep in squalor while the neighbors bathed in glory. It was not fair. What had they done wrong? Sure, some of their blood had bad ends, but not all. Yet, here they were, for generation upon generation. Planning or plotting, acting or waiting, but, in the end, always in the same place. This damned graveyard.

Most of the tribe was out this afternoon, gathered around the main entrance to the underground tunnels. It was cooler up here. Some were sleeping, others talking. A few pups playing and mouthing. The rest were probably trying to find some form of nutrition, either by scavenging further away or daring to cross into lion territory.

One female, not too far from the largest group, was training. She was tearing apart whatever she could get her jaws on and, once she chewed through it, was on to the next "victim". That was her goal. Be quick and not waste time on scratches and bruises. Make critical hits the first time, wherever and whenever. There was no war or anyone to fight presently, but you never knew when one might start up.

The light hyena gnawed on an old bone, clutching one end with her two front paws. Her wide, powerful jaws chewed at the other end, trying to split the age-old remnant of some creature open. Though it was old enough that Riza knew there would be nothing inside, she was still a little curious. Would it just be empty, with any marrow that used to be there disappeared ?Or would it be rotten on the inside? The female was mildly curious to find out, though mostly she just felt like splintering a bone.

The satisfying crack of bone wasn't far behind. It fell apart easily beneath her, splitting off into brittle little chunks all around her body. She sniffed at the fragments, but there was nothing there but bones. Slightly disappointed, the hyena glanced up and around the area, noticing Armada fighting as usual. She couldn't tell who, or even what, she was fighting, but the fighting itself was understandable. Armada always felt like she needed to be prepared for a fight.

"You're fighting again?" She asked as she walked over to the female.

  • Her spicy choco fur rose, standing on end, then fell, lying flat against her slim body. "Training," Armada answered bluntly with a growl, teeth still wrapped around her chew toy. At least, the other acknowledge her combative personality; hopefully, she'd also know Armada was not one to be messed with or made fun of for it.

"But," the short hyenaess tossed her catch to the side, before standing to full height and approaching Riza. Shoving the tan female in the chest "teasingly", with one of her white paws, the sadistic lupine continued, "if you wanna have a match, I would be happy to accept the offer." Her ivories were grinning menacingly.

“Training? For what?” Riza asked, black eyes wide in dimmer lighting conditions. As far as she knew, there weren’t any wars going on or any in the process of being planned. Well, at least that she knew of/

Her ears pinned back slightly as the female hyena approached, towering over her like some sort of tyrant. Honestly, sometimes Armada scared her. Not in a terrified sort of way, but more of a gnawing, but respectful fear.

Her dark eyes widened as the hyena drew near, leaning her head back and away. Her body rocked back slightly as she ‘gently’ shoved her.

“Umm…” She started. “Accept the offer…?” Riza said softly, slightly dumbstruck. “I mean, sure, would you like to have a match?” The way Armada phrased her sentence managed to plant the idea in Riza’s brain, which in turn lead her to think it was her own idea. Even though Armada had just basically asked that question.

  • "Always have to be prepared," she answered, beginning to circle her tribemate, "Wars are never scheduled. They kind of just, "the hyena jumped at Riza, swiping at her, but hitting nothing, missing on purpose. A sinister laugh cackled out of her as she continued, "spring up on you. Wouldn't want to be caught unawares now, would we?"

The other's response killed her maniacal mood. Sad...really, really sad. "Just forget it," Armada scoffed and turned away in another direction. There was no point. Riza was hardly a threat, not even worth a spar. Her tail flicked as she walked toward the skull entrance. What a dummy...

The hyena jumped back quickly, her head whipping around and attempting to locate the lunging animal behind her. Her jaws dangled open slightly, and her eyes were slightly dialated. She cringed a little bit, slowly waiting for the sure, harsh bite to her leg. Surprisingly, she was greeting with nothing but a loud snap of the jaws. The air whooshed beside her, but by the time Riza realized what just happened, it was over. Too late.

Even though the hyena hadn’t wanted to fight in the first place, she couldn’t help but feel disappoined when the hyena turned away. Her eyes tracked carefully as she began walking toward the skull bones at the entrance.

Before Armada could get any farther, though, Riza caught up. Since she’d gotten her all riled up and itching for a fight, then it was a fight that she wanted. She purposely placed each quick pawstep away from any bones or possibly loud distractions.

At the last second, she lunged at Armada. “What was that you were saying about being prepared?” She growled.

  • The reddish hyena let out a few, spaced laughs. She had expected something like that and stepped off to the side, to dodge Riza's attack. But, even with her skill, arrogance caught up with her and the other female still managed to catch the Njozian in the ribs.

Armada no longer wanted to fight, not with Riza anyways, but was admittedly amused by the enthusiasm. She had potential, if she wasn't such a blockhead. Then again, that could work to my advantage, too...
"Yeah, well," she said yawning, then rolling her shoulders and cracking her neck, "It's really not up to me what or when action is taken, right?" Their leader was the one who made all the choices. Not her...not yet anyways. Armada stretched and looked around, wondering what everyone else was up to.
