• Boring. Boring. Boring.

The young halfa rolled over onto his back, staring up at the blue sky above. Chasing grasshoppers, fun for a moment or two. Got old fast. Stalking lioness tails. Enjoyable, until he recieved a cuff to the ears from the irritable Sura. Cloud counting... he could try that! ... okay, no. Ugh.

A groan escaped the half cheetah, half lion cub's lips as he closed his eyes, wishing desperately that there were something to do on this dull day. There was no one to play with, nothing to do... he opened his eyes to continue his cloud counting, surprised to find a pair of gentle green eyes staring back at him. Leaping up, he realized it was his adoptive mother, the fair queen of the Pridelands, Noyana. She smiled down at him, shaking her head, and he offered an innocent grin. "Hi."

"Hello there." she greeted, bending her head to nuzzle him. "What are you up to?"

"Absolutely nothing." he sighed, plopping his rump down, curling his tail around him. "There's nothing to do, and I'm boooored." Why weren't there more cubs around the pride? It was unfortunate, but he dared not bring it up to Noyana. He knew of the fate of her own cub, he didn't care to bring up such a question and upset her again.

Noyana sighed gently, lifting her head to look out from the grove over the lands. "Well..." she started slowly. "Why don't you go play at the Watering Hole." She didn't USUALLY let the cub go off on his own, but she did pity him... and besides. There were surely others out there on this hot afternoon that might keep an eye on him.

The cub's black-rimmed ears perked as he stared up at her, wide-eyed. "REALLY? Oh thank you!" Leaping to his paws, he offered the lioness a quick nuzzle and an affectionate lick before dashing off down the slopes at near cheetah-like speed -- of course, tripping over his own paws a few times along the way. Off he would go, past the sleeping lionesses, through the grasses, onto the savannah. Finally, time for some fun! And out on his own, too. What a thrill!

The waterhole, due to the most pleasant memory it held, had nestled its way deeply into the young lioness' heart. It was here she first met her adoptive parents, Rena and Tempest. They had saved her from nearly dying of dehydration and she, in return, had distracted them from possible brawl between one another. Also, she discovered she was already a member of this pride, reopening secrets from her foggy past.

Since then, the lush pond had become her favorite spot to play. It had only been a couple days since she began living here and there were still a bunch of smells and sights to explore. Still, Amina tended to cling to Rena, Tempest, or Nomada much of the time. Sure, this was her home, but she didn't remember it and felt awkward because of that. What if she hurt someone's feelings because she couldn't remember them and they were special to her? What if her birth mother found her and the face was still unfamiliar? It made her sad thinking about it.

A large bee buzzed by her ear, startling the little lion. After falling from her rocky perch into the shallows of the water's edge, she decided not to worry about it anymore. Today, she was going to try and make more new friends on her own, the memories returning the more time she spent with them. Slowly, but surely.

With that, Amina continued to splash lightly in the water, blowing bubbles at the frogs or chasing tadpoles. It would be a good day.

  • With an awkward gait and a speed unlike most lions (that might be more impressive if not for the fact that he tripped over his massive paws every once in awhile) the little halfa cub made his way through the grasslands, leaving his impressive home behind. This was perhaps the first time he'd been allowed to go out on his own! It made it all the more fun. And of course he knew the way to the watering hole, having visited it many a time in the past with Noyana.

Soon enough, he came across the Savannah's common grounds, pausing to catch his breath and look around at the animals gathered. A giraffe or two, a hippo, and across the way were an antsy looking herd of zebra. They paused to stare back at him, then cautiously returned to their drinking. They weren't so concerned about a young cub, and quite frankly, Chion could care less about them too.

He was more focused on the lions here. Or rather, lionesses. He recognized Sura's sibling, Rena, sprawled atop a rock enjoying the sun. She would every so often lift her head to look out towards the water, and finally the halfa realized just WHAT she was looking at. Why, it was a cub! His brow furrowed in confusion. Rena didn't have a cub... sure, he'd not seen the lioness in a few days, but she couldn't have had a cub since then! So who was this? Curious, he trotted down to the water's edge, pausing to watch as this strange cub blew bubbles at a frog. What a strange game.

Dropping to sit on his haunches, he put on his best smirk, curling his tail around his paws. "Having fun?"

The voice caused her oversized ears to flick back. The little lioness' brown head then turned to identify its source. She watched the young male quietly for awhile before answering, trying to force her mind to remember him upon sight.

He was odd looking, not like other male cubs. In fact, he differed from lion cubs in general. His build was not as stocky, definitely leaner and more leggy. Also, he had pretty markings pouring down his face like old tear stains. His eyes reminded her of the bright healthy grass in the summer months. They were nice to look at. Unfortunately, she was still unable to recall any memory of him .

Upon realizing this, she answered his seemingly sarcastic question.
"I was...," now noting his confident posture as well, "You having fun up there?" Amina decided to pretend to act as if she knew this cub, just in case. She took a glance at her mother, to see if she approved the stranger.

  • She was different looking too. Not as different as him, of course, for he stuck out like a sore paw. But she had a black band around her forehead, with a white diamond at it's center. Some of the pride lions had markings, but he didn't recall any truly like this. Still, he wasn't one to judge -- he was made fun of all the time for being different. He didn't care to recipocate.

As she shot back a retort, he blinked, then casually shrugged. Fiesty then, was she? "Yeah, actually. It's a nice view of this cub splashing around like a hop-toad." He grinned, then rose to his feet, padding over to the water's edge. He noted that she looked to Rena.. perhaps she really was this cub's guardian, or something. "Hey, you new around here?"

Hearing another voice, Rena lifted her head to peer curiously in the direction of the sound. Spotting the little halfa sitting nearby, however, she allowed her head to drop back to her paws, unconcerned. She watched the interaction curiously, however, to see what Amina might do. When the cub glanced her way seeking approval, the lioness gave a slight nod and smile. The halfa was fine. Besides, Amina needed a friend in the pride.

What a relief. Though this cub's mannerisms and tone were bold, he didn't seem an immediate threat. Plus, from the sounds of the question, she was just as much as of a stranger to him. Still, the female cub continued on with her act.

"Yes and no," Amina replied cooly, not thinking about what she was implying, "I was away for a bit, but now I'm back to stay." It wasn't a lie, but she probably should have quit while she was behind.

"How long have you been here?"

  • Back to stay, huh? Well, good. He needed someone to play with around here, and she would be as good as any. If she HAD been here at one point though, Chion wondered why he'd never seen her before. Maybe it was before he'd arrived to the Pridelands. Or maybe he just didn't pay attention. Either was possible. After all, Noyana rarely let him out of her sight.

"Oh, for awhile." he replied to her question, dabbling the end of his tail in the water. He wasn't exactly going to relate his whole life history to her just now. "I didn't always live here, but I live at Pride Rock now."

Oh ok. So he hadn't always lived here either. Amina was now about 70% comfortable in this situation. He seemed to be as new as her when it came to these lands. Probably seen more of them, but she wasn't going to assume anymore.

"That's good to know," Amina said, smiling then approaching to get a better look, "What's your name?"

  • The halfa puffed up his fluffy chest, grinning down at her. "I'm Chion." he announced, flicking his tail. Original name? No. Not very. But a constant reminder of his parents' forbidden union, and what he was.

"And who are you?" he inquired, glancing back at Rena out of the corner of his eye. Just what was her connection with this cub? He was horribly curious, hopefully the other cub would reveal something on the matter in her introduction.

"Amina. Nice to meet you, Chion." She noticed his attention turned back to the adult lioness.
"That's...Rena," she informed him, unsure if they had met before or not. There was hesitation in her voice when referring to the older female. The cub hadn't felt comfortable calling her mother just yet. She kind of wanted to, but wasn't sure if the lioness looked at her that way or just as a guardian.

The young female felt a sudden need to be close to her and went off toward Rena, nodding to Chion the direction she was going. She hoped he would follow.

Amina brushed her tiny brown body against Rena's cheek then turned around, placing her forepaws on the lioness' shoulder.
"Rena, I made a friend," she announced, proudly. It made her happy to show him off and that she wasn't as shy anymore.

  • Amina. Alright then. Chion looked back at her, blinking as she turned to trot off. "I know who she is." he replied after her, though now more to himself as she headed off towards Rena. He paused for a brief moment before rising to follow her as she turned back to beckon to him.

Rena looked up as the cubs approached, offering a nuzzle to the cub as she drew near. "I see that." she replied with a slight smile, looking down at the halfa. "Hello, Chion." she greeted, eyeing the cub. He was known for making mischief... hopefully he wouldn't cause Amina too much trouble.

"Hi Rena." he greeted, waving his tail at her idly. He was still curious about the relationship between the two, and his ponderings distracted him. But was he allowed to ask about something like that?

Well, that answered that, but now how long had he been here. Rena already knew him, but he'd said he hadn't always lived here either. Amina looked back at Chion, who, yet again seemed distracted. Feeling bold, she pounced on him.
"Whatcha thinking about, Chion?" she asked, smiling cutely.

  • The cub was more than a little surprised when he suddenly hit the dirt, looking up to find the little fem hovering over him. Geez! It was a good thing there WEREN'T other cubs around to see that... being bested by a girl. Hmph. "I'm thinking you should watch out!"

Grinning, he batted at her nose (claws in, of course!) and slipped out from under her, darting behind her with lightning speed. Crouching into a hunter's stance, Chion waited for her to catch up with a smirk painted on his face. "See what I mean?"

"Oh Really?," she responded, raising a brow. Her inquiry about his confidence, even though he was quite easily beaten at first, caused her to let her guard down. Next thing she knew, her nose was batted and her "prey" had escaped.

The female cub turned around and grinned slyly at him, nodding.
"Nice, but is that the only trick you have?" Amina taunted, beginning to circle him He was impressively fast. She wondered how he did that.

  • His only trick? Yeah right!

He watched closely as she began to circle, ears perked and eyes sharp -- she wouldn't get the better of him THIS time! He was alert, now, and feeling more like his haughty self. "No." he retorted with a snort, turning so his unprotected back was no longer to her. "Actually, I know quite a few. Faaaar too many to show you, in fact."
