Strange to start a thread on one of my least favorites, but I was intrigued by Sosueme.

Funny you say that, Skittles, as when this thread opened, I had to reach into my memory banks because I confused its title with "Magnificat." That episode ticks me off in a big way, but I'll wait for a thread to begin lest I take it off-topic.

I don't have much to say about this ep except that it upsets me so I choose to not watch it.

Go for it Sue! ;)

Uh-oh, Skittles ... snap! There I go, falling into the trap. I'll try to think of something shippy as I type.

Rant on: I'm by no means a crunchy granola mother. However, I did what is considered by people in the U.S. to be "extended nursing." So, the bit of dialogue in this episode about the mother, "the poor thing" who is "still breastfeeding a 3-year-old" got under my skin, not to mention that the nurse wheeling a breast pump into her hospital room was completely stupid. I nursed all three of my kids until they were that age and I thought nothing of it. It was what worked for both of us, baby/toddler and me. And I certainly didn't need to pump, either, when the child was 3. By that point, it is comfort nursing, and there is nothing better for soothing an ouchie or quieting a temper tantrum, let me say. I was not a "poor thing" ... I felt lucky to have it in my arsenal.

For anyone who is gasping, I feel compelled to point out that two of my three have had teachers point out to me that they have never have never had such confident children in their classrooms. My oldest is a basketcase, so my point is that extended nursing has absolutely no effect on making a child either independent or overly clingy.

Anyway, the woman had postpartum depression and a complete d-bag for a husband. Why the writer had to demonize extended nursing, something that lowers a mom's risk of breast cancer by something like 40 percent, by the way, is beyond me and I found a real turnoff.

//Rant over.

OK, shippy? How about at the end that it is Alex who tells Carver about Bobby's friend, the children's rights lawyer. The way she delivered the line, it sounded like she knew the guy, too. Perhaps they all shared drinks together once?

I'm sorry Sue...I thoughtlessly put you on the spot... :( :sigh: I'm so impulsive- wish we could save posts 24 hrs before adding! :lol:

So about the rant...You are preaching to the choir sister! I was an enthusiastic member of the La Leche Leage myself when my 3 were that age. I nursed each about 18 months- just stopping after I became pregnant with the next because I became so exhausted. With #3 I stopped so I could start taking a medication. It is a wonderful healthy thing! :D Unfortunately, in our culture, nursing beyond infancy is often looked down upon. :(

I posted the link for the review because I didn't remember a lot of details. I DO remember Bobby sending his friend to talk to the grandmother. I always like when we learn about his friends! Eames did seem to know all about it! ;) Do we ever meet any of HER friends? :blink:

Oh, don't feel bad, Skittles -- you didn't put me on the spot. I brought up that the episode ticked me off and you just kindly started the thread. :) And after I thought more about it, the 3-year-old was among the dead ... all the more reason for the pump in the scene to be superfluous and ridiculous. When they're that age and they stop, your body doesn't react as I imagine it does when they wean and you're still producing a lot of milk. It's like the writer was looking for an opportunity to slam extended nursing and worked it into the script that happened to involve a mentally ill mother.

Anyway, I'm glad you're a kindred spirit. Although I was never LLL, I still give moral support to moms nursing beyond the "U.S. norm" wherever I can. I'm armed with enough statistics enforcing the positive effect of long-term nursing on the child's future chances of obesity, diabetes, breast cancer (not to mention the latter for mom), etc., that I could even stand my ground in an argument with Det. Goren on this point.
