Sorry friends, I have to say....he was with Denise the night before. But hey...don't despair. It was before they recognized their feelings for each other. Put it this way. Could you really see the Bobby Goren of season 4 onward saying something like that. No Way. Badge is when she first announced her pregnancy right? Don't forget, its only when Alex is on leave that he realizes his feelings for her. And, IMHO, he feels for her before she does for him. Hence, the "date" with Terry.

I don't think Alex really returned his feelings until sometime around or just after Semi-Detached.

Ship!

Actually, she announced her pregnancy in "Undaunted Mettle". But I agree that the show became shippier (more shippy?) with each season.

BTW Likeit, I enjoyed your new fanfiction story! :D

I think it's interesting that her mind automatically jumps to the sexual when he says "I can vouch for his assistant." "Vouching" for someone generally means you can speak to their character whether you know them Like That or not, right? But because Alex's subconscious is going down that road with him, she thinks about him with this woman and, well ... shippy foreshadowing?

I know this thread is about "The Pilgrim." Sorry! I love that line of his about Smithsonian mag in that episode, but all I can say is he's not working out hard enough if he can read it while on the treadmill.

OMG Paulie, 'hit and run booty call' - love it!  I am still on the fence about that.  Would Bobby try that with Eames??? IDK, I think he has too much respect for her to try that.  I think they were "dating" back in this period but I don't think they were hitting the sheets til later...But the sexual tension in this episode is palpable.

No, no, no. Bobby is a gent with Eames at all times. The "hit and run booty call" I'm referring to happened in a loving, endearing - yet exasperating - kind of way. Like say, they were out on a date or something and decide to go back to her place (thus setting up the 'run' part since I'm sure Bobby would never kick her out of bed if it was his place). Then they, you know, do it. Then he says he's got to go home. And she doesn't like it, would rather he stayed.

edited to add -

I also think the "don't you ever sleep?" question is related to this behavior. I've always gotten the impression that it was not the first time she said such a thing.

Why is it not your favorite because you are a shipper?  Because of his "wanted to impress a girl by reading the Koran" comment?  If so, I totally get that!  I can't stand to watch the scene in "Badge" when Bobby talks about being with Denise the night before.  I always ff thru that! I just don't like to hear him talk about dating other women.  However,  strangely enough, I don't mind when Eames talks about her date with Terry.

I still love the episode but it's not my favorite just because it's been surpassed by episodes like Blindspot, Loyalty, Lady's Man that are blatantly shippy.

Ahhhh. That makes so much sense- I get it.

I always look for the most complicated explanations....

this is my point, put more succinctly by sosueme. thanks, sue. :)

since when is 'vouch for' synonymous with 'having extra-relational sex with'??? 'cause Eames' response is not 'oh wow! you're dating Denise?! that's great! she's really nice! i hope it works out for you!'

it's something else entirely.

she's congratulating him for 'bagging a babe' as Paulie says. that's not very gentlemanly behaviour, is it? tossing out that kind of personal, sensitive information to the coworkers of the woman he is ... vouching for.
not gentlemanly is not very Bobby Goren, imho.

nyah ... i still say he means something else. he does not in any way indicate that he is 'intimate' with this woman. it's Eames who decides this for us.

but then, her mind is always in the gutter in season one, tho', isn't it? i'm thinking again of what she says to Bobby in 'seizure' when they're reading Reddick's letters from his murderer groupie. maybe it's something she is supposed to have brought with her from Vice? idk.

oh no! double posting!

considering our religion discussions ... 'the pilgrim' deals with somewhat-relevant subject matter.
this one must have cost a friggin' fortune to make. did they actually shoot an episode at a Veteran's Day parade in NYC? or have they filled the streets with paid extras in uniform? either way ... cha-ching.

Eames doesn't shoot Goren. she's right there. she might have been able to make the shot. but she hesitates. she doesn't risk hitting her partner, even though they might be blown to smithereens at any moment.
and they look really adorable in matching Desert Storm uniforms.

(OT for this thread, but oh well)

We started discussing other shippy stuff and GF thought of something I find quite interesting and funny:  try to think of Goren and Bishop playing as a couple, undercover, the way Eames and he did so comfortably.  You can't do it.

Unless they are playing a couple in divorce court LOL!

Beautiful pics Paulie! Yes, that is the look. Why show that? Why not Ethan's reaction? (I think he is the one in the room with them) Shippy tell! ;)

At the end of this ep, I LOVE the way Bobby and Alex look in the Desert Storm fatigues! Especially when they are walking together at the very end. It must have been funny for the wardrobe people looking for 1 big and tall size and 1 petite size!
I don't know why, but I like it when their difference in size is accentuated.

I too, loved Bobby & Alex in their army fatigues in The Pilgrim. The height difference is really accentuated. Another time when this occurs, is in season 5, (I think it is The Prisoner) when they are playing doctors, and Alex doesn't have high heels on. They look great in white coats.
