you beat me to it, skit. watched it last night, but didn't wanna type anymore -> as the above posts mentioned, the "you are very lovely" scene at the bar with the guy is most unnecessary. ![]() ![]() (as someone mentioned, the lighting is very flattering. An actor's eyes don't just glimmer like that by accident!) -> and the touch at the university - well, it's the first time they've touched in a while, according to my notes. Not sure if that means anything. -> LOVE this conversation: A: "Sannakji. That's some hint." B: "...it's octopus stew. ... I did a 6 month tour in South Korea. They use live octopus. The tentacles get up your nose its - hilarious." A: "a riot. trying 'octopus'." just the way she says "a riot" -- makes me smile. they have fun together, I think they genuinely enjoy each others' company. -> I don't love this. not word for word, but goes something like: B: "how did he pay?" A: "credit card, doesn't say which one" B: "well we need the actual charge. check his credit report to find the card." Bossy, bossy. I don't like something in his tone. It's subtle, but I don't like it. grrr She's your senior partner, dude. I know, not really a big deal. -> I noticed an interesting exchange. I was making stills of Carver touching Eames. then I noticed a little something extra right before that. Not sure if I'm imagining things, but you guys can help me out with that. here the fantastic foursome are, strollin' on down the hall. ![]() in that pic, you can see them Bobby and Carver at each other. Bobby's face carries a loaded expression imho. right after that, Carver gives Goren a smile, I guess it could be like a "hi" sort of thing, he probably just showed up - but then C proceeds to nudge himself in between Bobby and Alex, behind her, and... dun dun DUNN ![]() ![]() ![]() idk, did you notice anything when you just watched, skittles? Am I reading too much into it? I don't even know how many more times I would've had to watch this ep before I noticed this had I not been pausing it like crazy. We're all focused on the exposition there. but, it's appearing like... the "battle" for Alex continues ?? ->This is one my favorite early-ship scenes, although maybe only in my own opinion is it shippy, it's just a subtle thing. one of the "aha" moments for me, "yup. they love each other". I can remember watching this and thinking "Just kiss already!!" ![]() it's about proximity I think. Although we know how that's not necessarily reliable. ![]() I wrote on the old NBC board that I thought there was a lot of sexual tension between BA. I was trying to defend the ship. Others were like, "explain, please? give us an example of this sexual tension." I didn't really have anything concrete for them. I think I explained that it had a lot to do with when they were close physically, there was just "something there" in the air between them. There was a specific scene I was thinking of but I had no way of figuring out which ep it was from. well, this is the exactly the scene I was thinking of. Now I understand why I saw that, too. it's the closest their heads have ever been, I think. ![]() Does anyone else feel the weird sensation that their lips might lock at any moment during this scene? maybe I'm just "out there" |

All quotes EF:
IKR? There is another scene, in "The Third Horseman", when they are searching a room and Bobby says "Eames I need an evidence bag" and I want her to say "Get your own d@#n bag". Maybe Bobby is too focused on the job to be aware of his tone of voice. Alex seems to understand and take it in stride.

A touch is a touch!
Oh yes! I DID notice the Carver touch! What WAS that about? Like Alex couldn't find her way into the room without a guiding hand on her back? IDK about y'all, but I don't like when someone touches me like that. Except for my husband. I'm not a touchy-feely kind of person anyway. I DID NOT notice the Bobby/Carver expressions leading up to. Good thing that DVD is still in the player!
Close proximity is always shippy to me! The others would say that it is just the way they had to be positioned for the scene. (but if I'm THAT close to someone, I make sure I have a breath mint!) |

 And about Bobby's tone of voice... oh yeah, I've noticed this also. However, it always makes me laugh, especially knowing that Eames' got seniority... There was this moment in season one... I cannot seem to recall what ep Eames was reading something to him and Deakins. Apparently, Bobby had already read it, and he was eager for her to go on, he went like this: "read", in a total ordering tone. Eames didn't even blink, she went on reading  I do like your explanation for it skittles: he probably doesn't even notice |

Haha, wow. The small of the back is a pretty intimate place to be touched, I'd have to say. I don't know about anyone else, but I always slightly jump when someone touches me there when I'm not expecting it. Anyway, I always thought Carver and Eames were kind of touchy/feely with each other (well, as much one can be in such a professional and sterile place that is the Law and Order-verse). I can't remember the episode, but there's a moment where Carver deliberately brushes his hand up against her arm, then a minute later, Eames does the same thing to him. It's a blink and you'll miss it moment since Goren and Deakins are talking while all this is going on in the background. I think it took place in the earlier seasons (1-3). It kind of made me wonder where Kathryn and Courtney were going with all of this (was it like when Eric Bogosian suggested his character be paired up with Rodgers?) It probably doesn't mean anything, but things like this make me wonder. Gah, this is all making me want to read this fic again: Strike, Dear Mistress. |

I personally, like it when someone touches me like that. I'm probably not classified as a typical "touchy feely" person - ie: I'm usually too shy to reach out and touch someone else, for fear they might not like it (except my husband), but I like receiving that contact. HOWEVER. no platonic friend or colleague would ever touch me that low on the back, if at all. (on purpose). I still haven't come across this scene someone (uni?) keeps mentioning where Eames moves away from him. I don't see it in this one ? but I got my goggles on for it. yeah, B's tone is taken in stride by Alex, probably because she knows, as we do, that he doesn't really realize he's doing it. and it is kinda subtle. I'm wondering how much of this is VDO. (yknow, his self-admitted "arrogance"?) |

Addressing two things here: Sometimes I believe Carver is just being a "gentleman". I know that doesn't necessarily jive with how you would treat a police detective, or maybe a female colleague in general, but I kind of think it's nice. Sort of a "nod" to the idea that she IS a woman, after all. I really don't think it is sexual in nature. Also, I remember once time Carver kind of touched Goren's arm purposely as he was leaving the room. I really believe it's his way of connecting on a personal lever, versus, DA-Detective mode. As far as Bobby bossing Alex around. I think he gets lost in what he's doing. We've seen him be insubordnant at times to Deakins and of course Ross. BUT....He does check in with her with deference too. "That was Declan....he wants to meet me..." slight pause..."Make it quick". He nods. There have been other time too. Especially the notorious "Should we tell Ross?" ..."You're right. No..I'm just saying...You're right." And, I just remembered in that episode The Good Doctor....He and Eames disagree so they take it to Deakins (who agrees with Goren) he does follow protocol.....sometimes. LOL Overall, I think Alex is comfortable in her skin and with being senior partner. I don't think she feels the need to point it out. she knows if she needs to she can reign him in. It's not about that for her. "It's about getting them....right?" Ha, Ha, LOL. |

I've always noticed, and been impressed with, the control Eames has over Goren. I thought it was funny when he checked to see if she was looking before he smoked a cigarette butt, but it sort of set a tone that they've stayed true to. He rarely defies her, and his deference to her 'orders' is immediate. Even when he's lost his temper, ie: throwing the tray in the ME's office, she reined him right in. (That he might have been standing there waiting for her to save him and get him out of there, has also crossed my mind). One of the things I find attractive about them as a detective pair, and as a couple now too, is the dichotomy of that tiny, powerful woman having that control over this big, brilliant, half nutty guy. |

You're right about all this- it's good stuff. Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for making these points! Paulie_V:
:sigh: I love this!!! Yes. This is the kind of thing I've never examined on a conscious level, but seeing it stated in black and white I'm like: yes, of course, that is just the way it is; and the size thing absolutely contributes to the attractiveness! Instead of posting all of this I guess I could've just said "What Likeit and Paulie said"! LOL
